Most phone flashes blow out the image. The Galaxy S 2 is the first phone I've ever used that doesn't do this.

Question:

Has anyone rooted their Nexus S? Or still barebones - Nexus S

You have to go into the Skype settings and enable it, its not enabled by default.

Thats what I told her to do but she said she couldnt select it, it was greyed out.
She downloaded her version from the market if that helps. Does she have to download a hacked version from XDA or something?

speaking of which, new CWR released today
backups are a lot faster now + other changes

[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.1.0 [09-01-11] - xda-developers

Will flash tomorrow

I also left CM7 and went to try NScollab.. kinda more stable.. for wutever reason, WidgetLocker kept on crashing on CM7. It is fine with NScollab

mrks 09-02-2011 06:13 AM

I tried NScollab, but switched because it would mute calls.
You have to hold and unhold a call before you can hear the other person.

I recently switched to Oxygen, a basic AOSP rom, no CM7 mods. It's very fast and stable.

It's mainly to fix the voice search bug:

Quote:

The main purpose of this software update is to fix the horrendous voice search bug, which plagues all Nexus S owners. When a Nexus S owner will be in a low-signal zone, the voice search app will automatically get activated. This software update from Google finally fixes this bug, after months of complaints from the Nexus S owners. Other than fixing the voice search bug, the update also brings some NFC improvements.

However, not all is rosy with the update. Nexus S owners who updated their handset to 2.3.6 are reporting that tethering does not work for them, post the update. So Nexus S owners, who need tethering should stay away from this update.

The update is being rolled out via OTA, and will hit Nexus S owners across the globe in the coming days. Alternatively, Nexus S owners can manually pull the update from Google servers by keying in *#*#checkin#*#*.

When I turn my nexus S off and then back on, I get no service. I can wait forever and that status won't change. But if I go into my settings and into "Wireless & networks" and click ANY button like airplane mode off/on or wifi off/on and wait a few seconds, my service comes back on and the 3G symbol shows up. It's like I have to force the signal to get my phone working. Anybody else with this problem?

GLOW 09-05-2011 01:22 PM

service works for me no problem when i turn my phone back on. the problem i'm having is that my charge only lasts like half a day, but i do use data a lot.

does anyone have any uesful apps that help with increasing battery life? i'm using task killer to shut down apps in the background and screen filter to dim the screen more.

Psykopathik 09-05-2011 06:00 PM

just buy extra batteries and a charger. very useful when you don't have enough time to plug in your phone for several hours. eBay is your friend

No getting around data draining your battery. Most task killer apps cause more of a drain than use. I only use Llama to manage my bluetooth and wifi. Mainly to turn off wifi when I leave the house and turn it back on when I'm home.

On a side note.
This might be obvious for some, but I noticed an exponential increase in my standby time when I switched my Wifi settings to "never disconnect". Now when I'm connected to wifi my standby time is crazy. From 94% to 72% is 16.5 hours.

ya i guess i'll have to get a 2nd battery. i got the samsung desktop charger from bestbuy in the US at 50% off (normally $39.99 but it was $19.99). no media ports which sucks but i like how i doubles as a clock/digital frame when in docked in landscape.

i wish i could hook it up to a TV. besides the battery draining that's the only thing missing for me.

taylor192 09-06-2011 10:15 AM

Does anyone else see their Wifi performance crap out when the battery dips below 30%? It seems like the Wifi power is dialed back when the battery is low.

If this is what is happening I want to disable it, its annoying cause I can get a whole day from a charge, yet late in the day when the battery is low the wifi performance becomes unusable.

Yea I have this problem as well. I just force my phone into Airplane mode and then turn off the Airplane mode and within seconds, it'll find my network.

I've read that 2.3.6 update takes away the tethering capability, can anyone confirm this?
