:failed:
After owning the Galaxy S2 for a month and selling it in the anticipation of "iPhone5" and Galaxy Nexus, I will be re-buying a Galaxy S2 again tonight.....
Will be only using it temporary and then give it to my fiance.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as twitchyzero and want the korean version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE.
I want the 720p screen but am not impressed with the Galaxy Nexus' specs.

Thing is, found some good deals so I ended up buying getting one for my fiance and one for myself.......

dyan 10-25-2011 11:22 PM

Dammit. if only i can snag a deal like that :(

!MiKrofT 10-26-2011 12:22 AM

Just keep watching. I mean newegg and ncix selling them brand new for around 569 only.

ICS Port Surfaces For The Nexus S | xda-developers

this time... almost 95% of the features work PERFECTLY

!Yaminashi 10-26-2011 08:38 AM

Just a random thought, is there a reason why my S2 shows 1400mhz and 1600mhz in SetCPU when I'm not overclocked?

Darth, just so we're on the same page, you're running this port for the Nexus S on the SGS2!?

Also, what features don't work on here?

Very excited for this!

Tim Budong 10-26-2011 10:42 AM

Cause your kernel Ninphetamine supports those speeds even though you're not using them. I'm assuming your slider is set to 1200mhz which is = no overclocking.

I tried it out last night and I was surprised how optimized it was, especially coming from a SDK port. It's was nice to get a feel for the new UI and the features that come with ICS.

I couldn't get root to work so I went back to Gingerbread for now. Overall, can't complain.

Simplex123 10-26-2011 02:51 PM

I tried it out too, but the Force Close keeps popping up on everything I click on.. Going back to Gingerbread.

Ah ok thanks! I thought my phone somehow thought I overclocked it :heckno:

Also, is it more efficient for the phone if I were to save images that are used for wallpapers onto my phones internal memory?

I save everything onto internal memory. The only thing I use my SD Card is for Music and CWM backups.

Did any of you guys unlock your Bell/Virgin phones? If so, how did you unlock it?

I'm looking around for unlock codes to unlock one for use on the Robbers network and they're like $50-60 :heckno:

Armind 10-27-2011 12:38 PM

Unlock codes :fuckthatshit:

Mine is a virgin phone, unlocked it myself.

Galaxy S2 Root/Unlock How To:

1) Download the following files:
Samsing KIES - What's new for Software & Manual SAMSUNG
Odin for Windows - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1306787405
CFRoot Kernel for KG2 Firmwares - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311118549
To check if you have KG2 which most of you should have: hit Menu / Settings / About phone / Baseband version

2) Install KIES
Unzip the 2 files in Odin
Unzip the 1 file in CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip

3) Power off the phone.
Hold the following buttons down: Home and Volume Down. While holding these buttons down hold down the Power button too. So now that you're holding all 3 down the phone will turn on. When you see the Samsung GTi91000m you can release all the buttons. You should now be in Download mode with a big green Android.
http://localhostr.com/file/RCKvAM3/down%20sgs2.jpg

4) Plug in the phone.
Run Odin3 v1.85.exe
It should detect your phone in the first box under ID:Com and will highlight it yellow
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg
Make sure that Auto-Reboot is checked and F.reset time are the only ones checked
Click PDA and choose the tar file CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 you extracted in step 2
Click Start.
When it's done flashing your phone will reboot. Unplug.

5) Now you're rooted and back in Android. You'll need to connect using wifi and install the following app:
https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
Run this app. Click Step 1 then when it's ok click Step 2
Your phone should black screen and reboot. Give it a minute. After it reboots you're unlocked.
(Note: When all is working. Copy out the Galaxy_S_Unlock folder on the phone via USB and keep it in a safe place. This folder holds your encrypted IMEI/Mac Addresses/Etc.)

I'm doing this all from memory so hopefully I haven't missed anything.

FAQs:
1) Yellow Triangle: Means you're running custom kernel/rom. Doesn't affect anything. Can be removed but it's a lot of work for nothing.
2) Bell GPS navigation: Does not work if you aren't a Bell customer. This app checks to see if you're on the Bell network before it'll activate the license so use a different app like Navigon, Copilot, Sygic, etc.
3) The unlock app can be uninstalled when you're done. It's not needed afterwards.

In your volume settings, there is an option to link notification sound and volume sound together.

1. Go to the Home screen.

2. Select the Menu key.

3. Select Settings.

4. Select Sound & display.

5. Select Ringer volume.

6. Uncheck the Use incoming call volume for notifications checkbox.

7. Use the Notification volume slider control to the desired volume level.

8. Tap the OK button.

WhatsApp settings also allows you to control your own notification settings in the WhatsApp settings menu.
