Not sure if this has been covered in this before or not but there is an easter egg in the SGS 2 to adjust screen brightness.

On the top of your screen, hold down your finger on the notification bar and slide from left to right to manually adjust your brightness. Comes in pretty handy.

i know of this too. Only works if u disable auto brightness.

What ROMs are you guys running to help improve battery life?

JoeyStorm 11-22-2011 03:54 AM

was on Revolution before, now on Checkrom RevoHD. After flashing and wiping battery cache, both these roms have improved my battery life.

Eclypz 11-22-2011 10:28 AM

I'm now on CheckROM v3.1.1
Prior to that, I was on MIUI 1.11.11
Prior to that, i was on LeoMar's KI3

In terms of battery life, LeoMar's KI3 was still best for me, but there's no more support for it, as Leomar has moved to the CheckROM team.

Anyone tried any cases besides the case mate barely there? I dont like how it doesnt cover the bottom and top of the phone

shenmecar 11-22-2011 12:14 PM

I use the casemate toughcase. Its two piece. Silicone that wraps around the edges of the phone and a hardcase for the back

I was thinking of grabbing an incipio NGP but apparently it makes the volume and power buttons super hard to press

Armind 11-22-2011 07:20 PM

I hate how my phone won't even charge while playing my game plugged in.

So out of curiosity, I was googling around about the galaxy nexus and I happened to stumble upon a thread on XDA about screen issues with the S2 LTE versions, and how it seems like the T-mobile versions are plagued with pretty bad screen issues.

A small image is provided for you to test your screen with, I did the test myself and found one tiny blob, which I ALMOST didnt catch, and of course the yellow banding issue on the left of the screen, and vertical lines
Here's the image: http://cheema.com/blobs.jpg

[HOWTO] Reproduce screen issue (updated 3x results of detailed testing) some phones - xda-developers

Seems like all S2's have this hardware issue that Samsung wont acknowledge in their flagship phone.
Good thing I didnt pay full price :lol

!MiKrofT 11-23-2011 09:59 AM

If I can't notice it on daily usage I don't really care. I did have a dead pixel on my first SGS2 which I promptly got replaced.

!Yaminashi 11-23-2011 10:03 AM

Yeah I dont notice it either, but it does suck if you think that you pay your hard earned money on a flagship device with that sort of defect.

However from reading XDA it seems the problem is alot worse on the LTE versions

!MiKrofT 11-23-2011 11:14 AM

Yeah the Exynos versions are supposedly more calibrated so it's not apparent.

Eclypz 11-23-2011 04:15 PM

here are the instructions on how to duplicate this "issue":
Quote:

1) Download the blobs.jpg to your phone. A copy of blobs.jpg is attached here. Or simply point the browser on your phone to: http://cheema.com/blobs.jpg Tap and hold the dark gray rectangle and then select "Save image" from the menu. Note that it is not entirely black. It is dark grey. Testing with a black screen gives you false hope that your display is good.
2) Turn off automatic brightness and dial down the brightness all the way to make it as dark as possible. Go to Home->Settings->Display->Brightness.
3) Open up the "Gallery" application and locate the blobs.jpg in the download folder and view it in a mostly dark room.
If I have to go to such great lengths to find a so-called "issue", can we still consider this an "issue"?

I mean how many of us are going to be staring at a solid dark grey image with our brightness set to minimum in a completely dark room?

If I look hard enough, I'm sure I can find a flaw in any phone.

You're right, it isnt really an "issue" per se and none of us would sit there looking at a grey screen, but my point is on a high end device it shouldnt be there, especially if the phone is being praised for its great screen and Samsung is aware of the issue.

However I still think the vertical "ghosting" lines on the screen is a defect of some sort that is clearly visible on a daily basis. They arent visible when viewing images in the gallery but if those images are set as lockscreen wallpapers theyre visible. Weird.

JKay Deluxe 13.1 released!
[Theme/Mod/Apk] XWKJ3/KI8 XXKI4 - JKay Deluxe v13.1 - How the SGS2 should be! 11-23 - xda-developers

Make sure you flash the correct one for your firmware!
He added a fully customizable quickpanel and also a customizable quicklauncher for apps in the notification bar now!

(For people that don't know, JKay Deluxe is easily a collection of some of the best tweaks/mods you can put on the sgs2)

shenmecar 11-25-2011 01:41 PM

does this work on any rom as long as you flash the right firmware

Good question..i actually have no idea as I just use the stock Samsung roms with CF-root.

I DO know that CheckRom has it integrated in already although they're still using v12.1 of JKay. I'm guessing as long as the base for your rom is a stock Samsung rom then it works (?)
He also provides links for deodexed versions of the mod too, so I assume that it should work with something like VR...?

!Yaminashi 11-25-2011 02:38 PM

There's so much stuff in that thread. I really want the bluecircles theme but too many steps involved LOL

R5x 11-25-2011 03:32 PM

haha yeah there's a lot of info there.

But basically, all you need to do is:
1) Download "JKay Deluxe Settings v13.1" from here: JkayDeluxeSettingsV13_1.zip

2) In his post on xda, under the heading "JKay Deluxe Themes V13.1", pick the correct firmware which takes you to his mediafire page. Pick either Odex or Deodex folders, then Themes folder, and look for one of the filenames with "BlueCircle". I use the HTC_CFC_BlueCircle_Deluxe theme for mine which gives me a dark transparent notification bar with blue circle battery, blue color for all the settings in the notification bar, and also the wifi and data icons turn blue when i'm connected to google servers.

3) Make sure you download a backup of your stock firmware framework that he changes. He has it listed under the heading "Restore" in his xda post.

4) Put all 3 files onto your sd card. Don't forget to extract the .apk file from the .zip file in step 1. Reboot into CWM recovery mode and flash the blue theme .zip file from step 2.

5) Restart your phone and run the Deluxe Settings .apk file from step 1.

6) It should install an app in your app tray called JKay Deluxe Settings and from there you can configure everything.

If for whatever reason it screws up, then you go back into CWM Recovery and flash the Restore file from step 3.

Hope this helps!

Oleophobic 11-25-2011 05:42 PM

Been using Ultra Oleophobic for a while and was too lazy to switch to a different screen protector even though I started hating it after 3 weeks (becomes oleophilic).
Long shot but if anyone has an unopened SGP Ultra Optics they don't want please PM me with price. I need both protectors included in the pack because I suck balls at installing them.
