What firmware are you guys running? I'm still on KG2 2.3.3
Ive read KG2 2.3.4 was pretty stable?
Also do I lose my root when I flash?

!MiKrofT 10-19-2011 11:21 AM

Custom ROM's are pre-rooted already.

This is what I'm running:

Are there any other roms that dont require a full wipe? Thats really a huge PITA

!MiKrofT 10-19-2011 12:30 PM

As mentioned.. LOL.

Going to other ROMs it's recommended to wipe. But there are possible ways around not losing your stuff:

1) Titanium Backup to backup and restore all your apps and app data

or

2) After installing your ROM do an advanced restore of JUST the data from CWM.

I tried both options in the past and they seemed to work fine.

!Yaminashi 10-19-2011 01:02 PM

If I were to use the advanced restore, would I restore BEFORE I reboot for the first time?
Or would I flash the rom, boot up, then go into CWM and restore from there?
I dont wanna be hooped and be stuck in a continuous boot or something lol

!MiKrofT 10-19-2011 01:17 PM

Hmm I can't remember what the order was. I think I restored the data immediately after flashing. Doesn't matter too much if it bootloops. Just do a full restore. lol.

Maybe 1-2 minutes?
After the first boot it's like 5-10 seconds.

!Yaminashi 10-20-2011 12:14 PM

Ok, mine was stuck in bootloop then cause it sat there for about 10 mins on the villainrom boot image.

Tried to reflash and same thing, so I restored :okay:

Can someone tell me where I went wrong? This was my procedure:

1. Do full nandroid backup
2. Install zip file onto root of internal SD
3. reboot into CWM
4. Do full wipe + clear cache with CWM
5. install zip from SD
6. advanced restore data
7. Reboot
8. Bootloop on villainrom image

How are you wiping your phone?

I've had instances where "wipe data/factory reset" would cause a boot loop but formatting the system, data and cache under "mounts and storage" and then performing the "wipe data/factory reset" worked.

Ah sorry, I should've been more clear, I did the wipe from the CWM menu as advised on XDA

The CWM App or did you reboot into recovery?

I've only flashed ROMs manually (reboot into recovery) so I'm not too familiar with the CWM app.

!MiKrofT 10-20-2011 02:52 PM

It's most likely the advanced restore that didn't work.

My only other recommendation if you don't want to lose everything is use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps+appdata. After wiping the phone and getting it to boot with Villainrom 3.0 then restore the apps+appdata with Titanium Backup.

Argh, sorry I'm really out of it today.

After installing the zip onto the internal sd, I turned the phone off, then booted up into CWM recovery mode and did my wipe + cache + flash from there.

Once the flash was complete, while still in CWM recovery mode, I attempted to do an advanced restore of JUST the data, and I believe it said the restore was complete, so I then rebooted, but got stuck at the villainrom splash screen

I thought that was it too, so I reflashed and tried booting up WITHOUT doing a restore and had the same issue:pokerface:

I downloaded titanium but it looks confusing as :fuuuuu:

You could try formatting System, Data and Cache, wiping and then flashing and see if that works.

If not, your file may be corrupted. Have you tried re-downloading it?

!MiKrofT 10-20-2011 03:55 PM

Yeah try wiping everything including system.

I apologize if this has been answered already.

Do you guys know when Rogers is launch the S2?

I debating whether to get the S2 with Rogers with warranty, or get the iPhone 4s and scalp it. Then get the S2 off someone on Craigslist or Ebay
