Started deadlifting about a year ago, did it twice per week. In 6 months I went from 1 plate to 3 plates. Then I got my trainer and he gave me a new back workout to do, no deadlifts tho, focusing more on upper back since it was seriously lacking (rows, pullups, reverse flies).
All this deadlift talk made me want to try some, did my warmup set of 12 @ 135, then 2 sets of 6 @ 225 and was absolutely dying, tried a set @ 275 and only did ONE! Sooo pissed!
Guess I just got paranoid, all these older lifters (35+) we're telling me how they threw their backs out doing heavy deads, but whatever, i'm getting back into it. My question is, can I split my back workout (day 1: upper back, day 2: lower back) I just find it soooo hard to get a good workout after doing deadlifts first, it just drains my energy, but I don't like doing them @ the end of my workout either, because at the end of a back day I have the grip of a little girl.

I always thought doing deads once a week was the rule?

sorry, edited my question. Just remembered I wasn't really squatting when i was doing 2X per week deadlift. Now my squat days have me limping for 3 days after, so 2 times per week would be overload for my legs. Skrykn i'll definitely try that out, since I don't really need to use my legs for rackpulls.

hal0g0dv2 08-02-2011 03:58 PM

dead lifts are going to get you the thickness that many other back exercises wont get you, once u have thickness then you do the other things, pulls rows lat pull and cable rows pull ups, that will get you the width

RRxtar 08-02-2011 04:56 PM

i was actually making the most strength gains by DLing once every 2 weeks. strength gains slowed when i started DLing every week, but size went up faster and DOMS went way down

Splmash 08-02-2011 04:56 PM

Tried working out my back today. Weights didn't really feel right. Still need more time. FUUU. I miss the feeling you get when you hit your back for a full workout. Nothing compares.

Spoiler!

strykn 08-02-2011 05:59 PM

did back, shoulders, and triceps... 2 bicep exercises also, going to Edmonton for a week :okay:

Berzerker 08-02-2011 06:11 PM

Went to the gym sick today not expecting much as I felt really fatigued. Ended up lifting 5lbs more on my db bench presses... 105lbs 5 times. I don't get it.

Berz out.

mkings 08-02-2011 07:58 PM

it seems like the amount of beater wearing hongers is on the rise at sc.

Splmash 08-02-2011 09:42 PM

FML, I was reaching for the milk in the fridge and I tweaked my lower back again. FUCK. No back workouts this week either. 2 weeks now. Kill me please. I think I might hit up physio this weekend. We'll see.

In other news, had an epic chest workout today. Did 4 sets of flat bench DB presses (10*85, 8*95, 6*100, 6*105), incline flys (3 sets 10*65), weighted dips (3 sets 45*10, 55*10, 6*10) and a push up pyramid with my buddy.

Update: 175lbs

XplicitLuder 08-02-2011 11:25 PM

Fcukedd 08-02-2011 11:29 PM

Can anyone recommend a routine specifically designed to up your bench press?
I have already completed Smolov Jr. about a month ago, and that increased it by 20lb.
My bench is slowly lagging compared to my squats and deadlift

Berzerker 08-03-2011 12:19 PM

My chest is fucking sore today. That is all.

Berz out.

Hahaha. I saw this one skinny asian kid that came in with a big fauxhawk, a bubble tea, low-cut v-neck and flipflops. He smartened up and wore actual shoes about two weeks after he started.
