This removes any corrosion and prevents further corrosion for up to 100 years! We then put the phone back together and start working on any issues it may have." 2nd highest rating on yelp for phone repairs. Left it with them for 3 days. Went back no luck. Immediately took it to Crystal Mall repair shop. Same deal. It turns on but it stays on boot screen.

Any advice?

Bummer. Water damage is a really bad thing because the electronics are fried pretty much. Usually the price to fix the phone is the phone itself so might as well get a new one but an S4 too...damn

I haven't owned a S4 yet, but I've had the S2 and S3. Both of them were rooted and debloated of all useless Samsung apps. Still lags. Therefore, Touchwiz lags to begin with.

DHP 1 07-16-2013 08:33 AM

but the weird thing is the note 2 works flawlessly, no lags at all

judging by the spec the s4 and note 2 is really similar

yet s4 lags like no tmr

I'm pretty happy with my phone...left everything the way it came.

Went from Iphone 3GS to S4...only thing I hate right now, it's that stupid Facebook notification telling me to log in and sync. I can't figure a way to remove the notification without removing the app.

Settings > More > Application Manager > Facebook > uncheck show notifications.

Nah bro, S4 is running on 1.9Ghz quad core. Yet it still lags. I certainly felt it at the beginning. Rooted it and felt better but I think if you put a custom ROM it will be the peak of its performance

DHP 1 07-18-2013 11:36 AM

isnt note 2 1.6 quad?

hoping samsung will release an update to fix this stupid issue

wat ashame that their flagship is far away from being perfect

unfortunately, it's Samsung's skin on top - Touchwiz. I had the same problem with my S3. I rooted it and installed CM 10.1, and it's super smooth now.

Reviewers have said the same problem with the S4 - it's supposed to be a fast phone, but the skin really slows it down. They said the google edition (with stock android) is so much faster, it feels like what the S4 should've been in the start.

I just got the s4 coming from a nexus 4 touchwiz is a bit confusing. I miss stock android but I'll give touchwiz a try.

You can easily flash the GoogleEdition ROM for the S4 onto the phone if you wanna switch.

Armind 07-18-2013 05:57 PM

If only the TW camera works on stock Google rom.. Hnnnnngggggggg

What happened when I first put in my SIM card? I was originally playing with the phone with no SIM card, and then when I put in the SIM card, after the initial start up, the phone rebooted, but this time said something about" recovery" on the top left and then "erasing" in the middle shortly after. Now I noticed that some apps/icons have been replaced by Fido ones. And to top it off, all the apps I dled before putting in the SIM card are gone.

Another noob question, hoping for a quick transition from iPhone 4 to S4. What r the equivalents for the S4?
Notes (is it S memo?)
Mail (is it Email? Why the Gmail app)
Safari (is it Internet? Why the Chrome)
App Store (play store? Samsung apps?)
Calendar (S planner?)
It seems like there r a lot of duplicate apps.....

Oh and is there an easy way to transfer contacts? Or do I have to type them all individually

i came from the iphone 4 to s4 as well. yes, those apps you listed are the equivalent counterparts to the iphone apps. gmail app is only for gmail accounts while the email app you can add any. internet is the native browser and chrome is just another browswer app. im guessing samsung apps only supports apps released by samsung? not too sure on that one as i have never used that one.

as for the contacts, i synced all my contacts on my iphone to gmail and then on the s4 sync the contacts back from gmail. worked like a charm.

SSM_DC5 07-18-2013 09:27 PM

^ can I delete all the contacts off gmail after?

Alby 07-18-2013 10:37 PM

probably copy or transfer gmail contacts on the phone to your sim then turn off the gmail sync and load up your sim contacts? that should work in theory. i've never tried, i just kept using gmail contacts.

yup, that's how it works. I just completed it. Only hiccup I ran into is that when one contact had 2 numbers, only 1 number transferred to SIM, so i had to manually enter the 2nd number.

TouchWiz :yuno: is full of bloatware LOL + Rogers apps... I might just will.

exdee 07-20-2013 12:08 PM

just enable developer options and change all animation speed to 0.5 and debloat your phone not that hard

dj bally 07-20-2013 02:32 PM

for transferring contacts use a app called bump. its for ios and android and it will help you move all your contacts over in seconds. it worked great for me.

apparently on the stock carrier rom if you put in another carrier's sim in it it'll wipe the phone and download all the bloatware from that carrier on it =\ happened to me 3 times.. it was originally bell.. put in rogers.. downloaded all the rogers app.. back to bell.. and then it fuked up and now i have both rogers and bell app that can't be deleted unless i root the thing lol:ahwow:

did anyone do an update firmware on their phone? does anyone know the updates on them?

Spartacus 07-23-2013 09:54 PM

Hey guys, does your phone sometime doesnt respond when you touch the screen the first time? I find myself having to tap twice once in a while when browsing on the phone. Its very noticible when upvoting or downvoting on reddit.

Or put no animation at and get NO lag.

This is my first smartphone EVER and after tinkernig it for a month I have pretty much uncovered everything about this phone.

The thing about android phones is that you have a LOT of freedom, and I mean a LOT. Which is why I'll never support a company like apple. It's not hard to learn to root and mod your phone to your liking with a bit of research which makes you able to completely customize your android to your liking. With the s4, it is almost impossible to brick your phone unless you are a complete idiot (knock on wood though hehe)

Anyways here are some tips to make your phone extremely fast. I had some help in this thread so now I want to give back.

1. Root your phone first (this part is very very easy, canadian models have probably the easiest way to root there phones)

2. I advise everyone to learn how to flash there roms. I thought this was hard at first to, but again its VERY easy. Just download Rom manager after you root your phone. Everything else should be common sense or read a couple threads back for instructions. Choose a rom from the xda forums. I personally love roms that are debloated and is optimized for speed and battery.

3. After you choose your rom flash a kernel. The BEST one right now is ausdism kernel. Has the best battery life and speed optimizations. Look it up on xda forums again.

4. To further lower your lag, or TOTALLY get rid of it, and make your phone the fastest phone in the world, download a different launcher, SPECIFICALLY NOVA as I think its the only one that has the option to change the speed animations. Look and feel > scroll speed and animatino speed > put it to "faster than light" Oh and make sure to put no animation like I said earlier in developer options instead of .5

You now have the fastest and lag free phone on the internet. Doing these settings my phone is completely lag free. All my friends are amazed at how my s4 is 1000000X faster then there s4. It's not even a contest. It's even more faster then my gf's iphone5.

I've also managed to get my battery life to 6+ hours screen time with 1day15hours in total. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

I much prefer TW roms now as the GE roms are pretty unstable as it's still based off TW. You also lose a shit ton of features. I will have to try again with 4.3 though, hopefully they will optimize it more and some develeopers create a godly rom for it. As it looks like right now 4.3 seems to be pretty good. The leak is terrible though. TW has the best features IMO, so just make sure to get a debloated one.

Another thing someone said they wanted the TW camera for GE. I think there is a mod for that somewhere on XDA. Nevertheless I think the GE camera is way better.
