Not bugged by Peteys comments and I don't think anyone should take that as indication of not wanting to be here. I mean realistically unless someone trades a big contract away what winner has the money to even get him. Excited for the new season let's go boys! |
It's stupid for people to criticize his comments... what's a professional athlete supposed to say? "I just want to get paid a lot of money, I don't care if we are winning or not" Imagine the shitstorm if he said that lol... but somehow I feel like some people are ASKING for him to say that |
Imagine being ripped by “fans” saying you want to win as a competitive athlete lol. |
No issue with what Petey said, the BIG question is whether he thinks this is the team where he has that good chance of winning? The roster is better than last year for sure but is this team 3-4 years away realistically to contend for SC? And if he is willing to be part of the process. I mean look how Giannis stuck with it with the Bucks. Look at McDavid who hasn't even sniffed 2nd round playoffs ... not to mention all those 'star' players in Toronto who have more games under their belt than Petey. How long for Ovi before he won ... how many disappointing playoff exits? |
He doesn’t mean a guaranteed win, he means to be able to compete against the best (ie. make the playoffs and be competitive in them). Giannis’s team made big moves to try and improve, and they were one of the top teams in the league. Same thing as Ovi. He always had a competitive team that was always at or near the top of the conference. The McDavid or the Toronto situation is what Petey wants to avoid - a team that can squeak into the playoffs, but doesn’t really stand a chance. I think JB’s bold moves this off-season is a step in the right direction for someone like petey. |
I have no issues with what Petey said at all. Its pretty clear that this is about term. Petey wants options and GMJB doesnt want to let him walk to FA without buying UFA years. Pettersson is a pretty smart guy so he probably doesnt have that much faith in GMJB to make this team as competitive as he wants the team to be. But u dont have to be smart to figure that out. A major percentage of the fanbase thinks Benning is a terrible GM, u think petey is blind to this? |
Management must realize they can't be wasting the prime years of this teams stars anymore. Who's to say that once Miller and Horvat contracts are up they won't walk if the team still stinks and Petey is stuck here with a bunch of plugs. I'd say good on Petey to speak up and to show his competitiveness |
Great little story of Jagr preparing to play next season at 50 years old... https://www.si.com/hockey/news/jarom...-will-judge-me My favourite line: "It's not easy anymore, believe me, because mostly during my career, I felt that if I wanted to score a goal, I would score. But suddenly, this doesn't work. I have to practise, pay more attention to it and not gain 120kg again" What a boss. Imagine being so completely good at something that even at a professional level you just assume you can beat everyone if you decide to at any given moment. |
Shouldve traded Virtanen for Nicolas Deslauriers to protect the young core We just need to get rid of Tyler Myers for a legit top 4 RHD and we will be true contenders. |

Thornton 1 year to Florida Panthers .. chasing that dream. https://www.tsn.ca/joe-thornton-flor...hers-1.1681232 |
Hahaha might as well go to Florida walk around shirtless all year not giving a fuck Dirtbag Joe hahaha |
He's going to Florida to retire, can you blame him? |
Dickinson signed for 3 years $2.65M AAV. According to capfriendly, that leaves us with $10.65M to split between Petey and Hughes. With Brock making $5.8M, that definitely doesn't seem fair for two cornerstone players of our franchise. Benning needs to fix this mess before we lose either or both of them. Word is that term is the main issue outside of cap problems. Petey and Hughes want a contract that walks them to free agency. JB obviously wants to lock them up long term. |

People are freaking out but not looking closer at the numbers |
oh hey, you're right. welp, I'm still concerned lol. btw not concerned about petey's recent comments in that interview. absolutely nothing wrong with a guy wanting to win. |
their agent also said that theyre talking >5 years for Hughes and <5 years for Petey....that would not walk them to UFA's exactly...Hughes would be a UFA in 5 and Petey in 4 right now...it sounds like Hughes wanted something longer like 7-8 years and they were looking at the Barzal deal as a comp @ 3 years for Petey....but thats prob all changed now that there's got more cap space and a definite number to work with I wonder if a long term deal can be had for Petey @ ~9.5M and Hughes @ ~8M |
with both EP and QH, we'd have 26 players. if you send 3 league minimum guys down, that's 2mil freed up, add ferland's 3.5mil, and the 10.5mil space we have left right now, that's 16mil for both players. I think that's very doable. I really don't think money is the issue, it most likely is a term problem. If you look at the roster and see who got signed/extended this year, and who has NTC, it's easy to figure out which players are the only ones that could be moved in order to make cap space. EP and QH would know that asking for too much would mean Bo/Brock/JT might get moved, which would not help their chances of winning. |
Next year cap is still an issue too, don't forget. We have cap recapture on the buyout of Holtby and Jake. Luckily, Luongo's recapture is finally over in '22/'23 season. |
I was listening to Dickinson's interview on 650 and he talked about what number he was going to wear. He mentioned that he always wore 11 but for obvious reasons he's not going to wear it. I looked into it because I didn't know what the obvious reason was then came to this wiki: Quote:
Props to Dickinson and just cements how much of a fucking asshole Messier was/is. |
Fucking Messier. Such a douche. There's a special place in hell for assholes like him. Gawd, I hate that cunt. What he did to Trevor Linden and the Canucks. Then for the Canucks to hire Keenan and bring that dipshit here, adding insult to injury. Hate is a very strong word and I only hate a handful of people. Messier and David Suzuki at the top of the list. |
Slow clap for the Hurricanes getting revenge on the Canadiens by offer sheeting Kotkaniemi lol!! I love the $20.00 signing bonus too. Aho's number is 20... and Kotkaniemi wears 15 which is also the ending amount of the offered salary... just crazy trolling by Carolina.................... https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...i-offer-sheet/ |
