Yeah, he basically said everyone still has a job to do and he expects them to play hard. The reporter asked if keeping Demko out longer is part of the tanking plan. And JR said he hasn't thought about that.

Here's the actual clip with timestamp. Actually now that I'm listening to it again a second time....
:suspicious:

Sounds like he may be indirectly saying he's open to just icing a shittier roster, but he'll decide more on that in the 2nd half of the season. lmao.

Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida, etc.

And then to top it off, a team with 2 of the best players in the world, Edmonton lol

Feels like rebuild, retool, etc. it doesn’t really matter

Yea regardless of which path has seen success in the past all of them usually have things in common such as but not limited to nailing your draft picks not only the obvious 1st round picks but some of your later picks. Then having some of your cheap entry level contract guys perform at a high level and many many more things. Even if we somehow tanked and got the local kid we could still end up sucking for years to come if a lot of other things don't happen.

BlackV62K2 01-17-2023 07:38 AM

Canucks messed up by making JT miller the foundation piece to build around. They need to get rid of that contract while they still can.

murd0c 01-17-2023 07:40 AM

The Canucks need to call it quits for the rest of this season, Trade BO, Schenn and Boeser and hopefully they can do something at the draft/off season this year.

68style 01-17-2023 08:49 AM

He already said in that interview he's not interested in rebuilding through the draft, he wants young players already in the NHL.

Liquid_o2 01-17-2023 09:16 AM

Young players that haven't played up to their draft spots. Sven Baerstchi, Linden Vey. Adam Clendening. Perfect. This will take us over the top!

68style 01-17-2023 09:39 AM

Haha literally the island of broken toys

Verhaeghe, Marchment, Bunting, Bratt, Hyman, Thompson.

There are guys who doesn't play well until they're older. Hell...petey was playing like shit before and we were close of running him out of town.

Just because Benning and co ran a shitty pro scouting department, doesn't mean it'll lead Alvin into the same thing. At least they got it right with Kuzmenko so far.

Yup, we take them in because we have an awesome rehabilitation camp to turn them into superstars. :fullofwin:

6thGear. 01-17-2023 11:38 AM

To be fair, Baerstchi was picking up his play before his concussion issues. Had he played a full season , he'd be a 20 goal scorer

Hiring Tochet feels like throwing gas into a dumpster fire..

It’s what the Canucks need for a chance at Bedard lol

To be honest I think the Canucks need him, they need to get worked to death and a fire lit on their asses. Especially JT with his horrible back checking...

whitev70r 01-17-2023 04:38 PM

It feels like this mgmt team lost at least a year towards whatever it is they want to call it ... retool. Canucks are really no better or further ahead than they were a year ago ... can argue they are actually worst in so many ways.

The Official 2022/2023 Canucks & NHL Thread

This is the cost of buying out OEL’s
Contract:

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/cost...ibextid=Zxz2cZ

https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-c...ibextid=Zxz2cZ

From the capfriendly.com calculator:

A Oliver Ekman-Larsson buyout spans 8 years, has a cost of $19,333,333 and savings of $9,666,667

If the Canucks were to actually buy out Ekman-Larsson, they’d actually get some major relief next season ($7.11M). That’s a big deal considering the projections for the NHL salary cap.

It's insane how many bad contracts this stupid team has gobbled up over the years.

I was talking to a buddy in the organization today and was asking him why doesn't the Aquilini's just sell the team at this point? He told me owning the team has been a money laundering goldmine for the family, which I had never thought about.

Most in Vancouver do know the family's more "insidious" ties, but I found his comments interesting.

Makes the below story a little more fascinating.

They are no different than any other of these giant developer families, Bosa etc.

You don’t become billionaires without stepping on some toes. Anyone who can afford a North American professional sports team is probably some degree of POS

One thing I’ve heard, I can’t remember where, is that the aqualinis wanted soooo bad to buy the Canucks and the whole debacle with Beady etc. because when you own a major North American sports team you’re “in the club”

As in all sorts of different social circles open up, opportunities etc. that are simply not there even when you’re a billionaire

whitev70r 01-18-2023 04:29 PM

Don't buy out OEL ... retain some salary (as much as necessary) to trade him. Even if Canucks eat half ... the cap hell won't be as bad as buyout.

MG1 01-18-2023 04:34 PM

I don't get it........... I don't give two shits about the canucks. Stopped cheering/caring for them a year or so ago. No expectations, etc.

Now, I can't wait for the games to start. Sick or what?

Maybe it's because the Jays and BC Lions haven't started their season yet.

Buyout is $2M a year for 8 years

Retaining half would be $4M...

Also he has a NMC so he can't be traded unless he agrees to it.

whitev70r 01-18-2023 04:48 PM

^ what about cap implications?
If you buy out ... he is on cap till 2030-31
If you retain half ... he's off the books by 2026-27

That's why Tocchet is coming in :troll:

68style 01-18-2023 06:34 PM

Canucks keeping with traditions…

Traditions of having record goals scored on us and making backup goalies look like Vezina winners that is.
