Colorado used that Super Mario mushroom sound effect after successful penalty kills.

Kind of neat to turn part of a game into a video game haha:

If they play a sound effect after a successful penalty kill, I hope they do it for both teams. Otherwise you could argue it gives an unfair advantage to one team.

Watched the recording again. They play it when a Seattle player comes out of the penalty box. Short theme song when popeye opens a can of spinach and gulps it down. Example at 5:03 left in the first period.

Yup it's from the 1983 arcade game by Nintendo (random trivia: Donkey Kong was supposed to be a sequel to this, but licensing fell through so they had to replace Bluto and Popeye with Donkey Kong and Mario)

Also it's the Avs that play the Mario sound

But why do they feel the need to do it for both sides ... afterall, they only put on the goal light and song for the home team?

Playing a sound after a successful penalty kill happens during play and could warn the power-play team to watch out for someone coming out of the penalty box, leading to a possible breakaway. Back in the day, didn't their goalie slap their stick on the ice?

Goal light & song for the home team happens after play has stopped.

SkinnyPupp 01-26-2023 08:46 AM

It's like when goalies would slap the ice with their sticks after a penalty ends... Can't have one team slappin' while the other gets Mario sounds lol

Lol it's called home ice advantage. Do you want the crowd to cheer for the away team and do a hip hip hooray at the end of the game?

I'd argue that playing a sound after the home team kills a penalty gives an advantage to the away/power-play team... i.e. signals to them "watch out for the person coming out of the penalty box".

whitev70r 01-26-2023 09:29 AM

^ then going by that logic, they should play a sound 5 secs before the visiting team finishes their penalty kill?

How about we agree that playing a sound after any team's penalty kill is not necessary?

keifun 01-26-2023 10:04 AM

Kuzmenko staying. 2yr contract. $5.5M cap hit.

Agree with both points.

The stadium staff shouldn't do anything that could affect the game during play. As for the crowd, you can't control that and sometimes the crowd will turn against the home team...

Dim Jim alert! Dim Jim alert!!

Fuck sakes man.. this is like as middle of the ground fucking risk exposure as you can get. And again just speaks to this muddling retool fuckkk

MG1 01-26-2023 10:20 AM

Tradition has always been to stop any kind of music/advertisement jingles as soon as the puck is dropped. Out of respect to the players, I guess. As for slapping of the stick by the goalie, that's done by the team with the advantage to warn their teammates that the power play is about to expire. Not after, gulolol.

Having said all that, the announcer goes on the PA to announce details of a goal during play. Are you guys sure the sound clip is played for both teams? That doesn't make sense. It's meant to say, "Good Job, Guys!" (power up). Anyway, looks like Kraken fans aren't too sure what the sound clip is. We here on RS know.................

Dumbass Allvin. Kuzmenko would have high trade value at the trade deadline for any team that needs more offence. Kuz's current contract is cheap. Teams would trade for him.

He would be worth at least a draft pick.

Good luck in trying to create cap space for the team. FailFish

Hondaracer 01-26-2023 10:23 AM

Everyone was saying he’d fetch a first +

Same shit different pile. This organization can be seen as a ship of fools.

sunk by the Kraken last night, gulolol

whitev70r 01-26-2023 10:30 AM

Yah, kinda puzzled by that signing. Well, if contract is favourable, he can still be traded at deadline. Maybe with a reasonable 2 yr amount, he would be more attractive to another team. Without this, they would just get a rental with no guarantee?

And if Canucks do keep him next year on the roster, he can still be trade bait again, assuming he performs at this level. Just tell me he doesn't have a NVM clause.

Liquid_o2 01-26-2023 10:37 AM

12 team no-trade I believe.

highfive 01-26-2023 01:56 PM

I think the rationale of signing Kuz is pissing Petey off and Petey not signing with us.

Petey wants to win. If he were to buy into this "retool" in 1-3 years, scorch earth style rebuild is out of the questions. Kuz fits into age group and has chemistry with Petey.

Trading Bo / Miller / Boeser / Garland is probably the better option.

Liquid_o2 01-26-2023 02:49 PM

Nah I don't see it that way. Petey and Kuzmenko have formed great chemistry and a seemingly strong bond. Canucks need to find a way to build around a core of Petterson, Kuzmenko, Hughes, Miller, and Demko. Everyone else has gotta go.

bobbinka 01-26-2023 03:33 PM

Hondaracer 01-26-2023 03:42 PM

Maybe Demko? Ehh
