i just washed my car and fixed my exhaust (sorta), i welded on the hanger too low, so it hang down quite a bit. so i got some 12 guage wire, and tightened everything up! it was low enough that the muffler scrapped on my driveway as i backed out lol even at stock height!

and now off to school

the damn lower IC pipe a) isnt long enough to fit but we ghetto'ed it. and it will sorta fit B) were retarded and uhmm made some mistakes installing the top pipe, we well, removed 'everything but the fender and the door' and well, we were running the IC pipe through the wrong area, apparently defcon pipes run through the hole for the intake. not the stock IC location. doh!!!!

well... since i cant drive i figure i may aswell finish my car well i have time to work on it. im trying to think up possible exhaust upgrades. as is my pacesetter is only 2.5" mandrel bent very free flowing.

plan a) spend all my money and gets a Blitz NUR Spec catback or the MAXX system for a little bit less money

plan b) keep the stock exhaust pipes, but buy one of those cheapo canister style mufflers off ebay. have kenny weld it up and put a mechanical exhaust cut out in the place of the 2nd cat.


im sorta leaning to plan b... i know electronic is easier for the cut-out, but its more money and i want to do this as cheaply as possible, if infact i do it at all.

as for the exhaust, why not keep your current exhaust, and get an electric cutout before the cat? uS$99 for the electric cutout, US$35 for a cutout from summit, probably not even an hour to weld it onto your current downpipe. when you want to go fast, hit a switch, thats it.

electric cut out. i dont know.. just more money... is it really that hard to stick your hand under the car and turn a knob?

i mean it may be useful if you get pulled over by a cop for sound polution or something, but i wouldnt plan on using it very often. i think even on my shitty catback if i had the resonator welded out and put on a canister style muffler it would flow fairly well. but thats besides the point

i want fast spool... very fast, and the quickest way would be the cut out which for the money, seems the best way to go.

im still worried about burning the hell out of the underside of my car, i mean ryan shoots flames from the back of his muffler, if that was happening post-cat it cant be good for daily driven (thinks up some sort of heatshield idea....)

well you know what i sujest for best fit is the trust and the lower half sperco

teh othe way whould eb all custom and nto worth it

and that rubber pipe i chould use after litel fix of that worn spot just think if that hose blew on you heheheh

hrmm ok heres the options acording to ryan

chop up the defcon lower IC pipe (turbo to lower IC inlet)

or use that Trust pipe with the shorter hardpipes i got with the Spearco I/C

with the trust/spearco that'd mean alot more connections, more clamps, more chance of leak

with the Defcon and trust it would have to be cut, so that would mean no lip on the end of the defcon pipe.. im also not sure how well that defcon pipes going to fit in there without rubbing. good thing i got all that exhaust wrap...

anyhow. ideas???

So I think I've finally decided on a muffler to get. I'm gonna go with the MagnaFlow (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/ss.htm) SS oval body with dual tips. Part #14258 with a 2.5" inlet and dual 2.25" outlets (with 3.5" rolled tips). Lordco quoted me $164 for the muffler and $30/eea for the tips. Does anyone know where I can get it cheaper? :)

Someone on Supraforums was saying that the stock inside diameter of the NA's exhaust is 2" though, is that right? I always thought it was 2.5". Do you remember, Ryan?

no the exhuast is not 2 inc that just plain crazy if it was the guy jack ass

the stock size is 2.25 and at teh bends it get crap and the bend will go to 2 or bit bigger then there the muffler that made to be quite and the resaantor and then the cat



so as what size you should run whould be 2.5 or 2.25 and have it done in cut mandler bent exhaust that i can get done vor you under 200 bucks but you will have ot pay for you resanotr if you decide to chop the cat out

good choice on muffler, i have a magnaflow 3" in/out with 4.5" rolled tip. its a bit loud, but you get used to it. no cat, no resonator... its goin to get really loud when i get a downpipe....

Cool, I'm looking at the round-body ones right now and they actually look pretty good. What diameter size did you get for the actual muffler body? I can choose between 4", 6", and 8". Any ideas on how this diameter affects the sound/flow assuming a fixed 2.5" in/out? How much did u pay for yours? I'm still undecided about the style - the 2 tip one is a lot more $$ :(

the thing you put down is custom exhuast

thers not that big of diff whne you run 2.5 vs 2.25 but it will gain more flow out of it if you go 2.25

so just go 2.5 it's nto that much more exp any way

yeah maybe i'll bring it to a timmies meet or the toyota meet or something..

its a pain in the ass to use tho, it has to be like exactly level when its first programmed. you also will need to know the weight of your car with you in it... since its setup for my car right now you probably wouldnt get good results

it might do the 1/4 mile without adjusting the weight, im not sure id have to read the manual again and check

coming off the highway onto keating, go through the first light and look for a red building on your left called Unisource. turn left in front of it, thats Mirah. follow that to the end, make a left and then a right into the parking lot, its right there.

i might need kenny to make some spacers for me once i get the H&Rs on. if its too low and starts scrapin, ill put spacers in to raise it up a bit.

Aren't things more prone to corrosion and doesn't the turbo tend to go right after one? I wonder how badly damaged the block and head were...

if the car wasnt driven to the extent of overheating, the head shouldnt be warped.. for the most part it really depends how much the car went through

you wont be able to tell how much actual damage was done unless you could check it out with the head off. there could be piston damage

its almost cheaper just to find another used engine and swap it in

machining aint cheap!

well when you blow a head gasket this that can go wroung are

if it's really bad you can get crotion on the block and then have to get it decked same with the head if this does happen the head will be worth less as in replace it

the onyl thing that can go wroufn when you blow hg is you get chalking whihte carp on you o2 as for piston damge naa that wonte happen comsit gast do don't no damge at all metle ones do and if this was ot happen you get bad blow by

So how did it blow its head gasket twice? Is it a lemon? Would everything survive a third BHG? I want it, but I don't wanna pay out my nose for something that'll only last me a few years. multiply KGs by 2.2 to get LBS, i do it all the time filling propane tanks.

as for the BHG on Mr. WRXs parents car, if you really want the car, get an inspection done on it, and get them to do a leakdown test. there are a few shops around here that charge about $85 to get it inspected, and they give you a sheet of everything that is wrong with the car. my sister got her VW done, it needed new tires, new struts, and a few misc things.

what year was that car? dont jump into it if your unsure, its better to get all the financials going and then find a car thats worth the money.

regarding loans, the loan i got for my car was a personal loan, not an auto loan. there are a few differences. i had to put up my MKIII and my old car as collatoral for the loan, so if i defaulted on the loan, the bank would take both cars. but i only owe $1500 on it now, i might pay it off in march :)

H&Rs kickass.. great performance and a considerable drop. ryan will say the eibachs are better in all ways... but the only actual evidence ive ever seen of the eibachs spring rate vs other springs is that the H&Rs came out ontop..

realistically even with good struts, no spring is going to make as big of a change as sway bars.

H&Rs/Eibach, doesnt really matter. the Eibachs have a high spring rate, just like the H&Rs, they both have no history of sagging (unlike ST springs), the only real difference is the H&Rs are lower.

for me, i want low. i have Koni Yellows, so i can run them full firm, and if they are too low, i can make spacers. hell, i could make a 1" spacer to raise it up, but still get the advantage of higher spring rate and stiffer shocks.

I like the 1.5" in the front, but the 1" in the back is what I'm not sure about. Maybe it's better to go with the Eibachs and save my exhaust. :D I just want a noticable drop. I didn't even know Ryan's car was lowered until he told me.

Still gets a fuckload more looks than my MKIII does ;)

A friend of mine bought it (DJ DZ on here and SF), and we were taking it to another friend in Kelowna (Simba on here and SF) to see what he thought of the various issues it has (200,000km)... Turns out we were right about the burning oil being a turbo issue, as they fucking melted halfway there :(

on the oil gauge in the dash, when i start mine up its normal and fine but when i start driving it, it drops considerably, still runs fine, still have lots of oil in there but it says its down when car heats up

it suppost to do that but to centon level thenit will go up as you push the gas pedal down as in 5000 roms it will be above 2 or what ever

or just have your stock shit replicated.. the defcon bend isnt very good, it hangs low

well teh stock pipe it to bendy and stuff and the reosn why your hangs low is i shoved the piep upt eh old stock tube that why it hang's lower

but for all around city driveing the the turbo is better then the na

cars jacked up, one of the DP bolts is stripped, other is tight.... what else could it be ryan? tranny mount? it looks like something was hitting the undercoating, could be the tranny flexing over and hitting it...

ok, replaced the bolt ($1.06 haha) and tightened up the exhaust clamps on the dp, and it seems ok, but ill have to wait until i put my exhaust back on to be sure. its off for now, takin it to a freinds place to get him to fix the leaks and weld on an extra hanger....

when my DP finally came totally loose from elbow it made some real nasty noises at idle *clank, clank, clank*

also the heat from that leak kinda toasted the bottom of my BOV

well, i took my exhaust over to kenny to get him to fix the leaks... and... well... i think he was disgusted with my incredibly crappy welding job.... lol so am i though, that MIG i got was a registered Heap'O'Crap. hes going to grind off the paint, reweld it, and charge me a good price :) kenny kicks ass haha ill put some pics up when i get it back.

Update on my engine swap, the buddy who's garage I'm storing the motor in before I move it to the garage I'll be swapping it into, he went to the Dominicon Republic for an all inclusive 9 day vacation, so that'll put the swap off by another week :rolleyes: :(
