Well this sucks... i just wrote an email to 935 motorsports in regards to my Cometic MHG to see what the hell is going on. They replied and it now looks like im no further ahead than i was on January 2nd when i ordered the damn thing... :2finger: They said that cometic is going to remake the gaskets as there was an error in two of them and they withheld the whole shipment. This means if i stick with my order at 935 it will be a bare minimum of another month until the gasket is even in the mail to me. Robert at 935 said all he can recommend is to refund my money and refer me to another company in florida, which i think is Titan Motorsports. This sucks... im not sure what to do from here... at this rate i might just leave it off the road and wait for the gasket to come from 935... i dont want to have to rush it together.

They dont stock a 2mm with the 86mm bore though. So i would have to wait anyways.

islandsupra
03-24-2005, 07:40 PM
Bob, you should email Duane, Allan told me that he had a good supplier for Cometic stuff when I was talking with him about redoing mine a while back. At the very least it may be worthwhile asking!
Probably easiest to get a hold of him through the other forums... I have his email but don't know it offhand.

That totally blows though.

Maybe i will try and do that Reuben, thanks man. And Murray i dont think my block is smooth enough for an HKS. Thanks for Duanes email address too :) I have just emailed him, i will see what he has to say about it. I can always cancel my order at 935 if he thinks he can help me out sooner.

NashMan
03-24-2005, 09:12 PM
just get one from freaks they all have stock bore of 86 on all gaskets perttty much cause that is the max boor you cna do to a 7m

Slate 85GTS
03-24-2005, 10:13 PM
86mm bore is not the standard bore size. It is a special order gasket. As far as i know, horespower freaks does not stock the 86mm bore gasket for the 7m in a 2mm thickness. I have emailed them to confirm this. I wont know until they respond. If they do have it however, then i might cancel my order with 935 and reorder it at horsepower freaks. Im still waiting to hear back from Duane as well.

well, I ended up getting a late start today and only got the rear suspension and sway bar on before dinner.
I just got back from checking it out, and man does the swaybar ever make a difference - it's way stiffer. Probably a good 15 lbs heavier too.

I guess I'll tackle the front tomorrow. I jacked the front up just to check all the bolts and they are seized pretty good. Sprayed them up and hoping I can crack them all loose tomorrow :)

I'm not sure about the downpipe because our welder is out of gas, and the tank is already gone to get refilled. But if I have time I guess I'll get started on the knock sensors as well. Gotta take advantage of all the tools and garage space while I can!

I dunno what's going on dude, I only talked to Cole for like 5 mins yesterday when he got into town cause I was under my car when he showed up.

We are all gonna go out tonight and see all the old faces though so I'll talk to him later on today and let you know what's going on. I think he needed to know the paint code or something - not sure.
But I'm off to play with the front suspension now. I'll let you know as soon as I find out Toby!

Toby, it just depends on what company the head gasket is made by, some of the factory replacement ones are 84mm which is fine but like cometic for example sells one that is 83mm and thats no good if your engine is overbored.

Boonies are Port Mc-nowhere... looks like I'll be back up there for the summer, I am getting quite broke now so I won't be in Victoria for at least a few months if ever.

But I plan to make one more trip down there before I am gone,we should all get together and do something :)

Ok, i finally got it all running sweet like i was trying to. Got rid of my code 51 now and was able to set my base timing. What do you guys think i should do as far as my BOV? Recirculate or vent? I made a unit up to recirculate it and i was fully prepared to do so but it sounds sooooo boring... its almost quiter than stock when i recirculate it. But if its gonna be stalling and backfiring all over the place still like it used to then i would rather recirculate it... any opinions?

what kind did you get? i never had any problems with my HKS as long as i paid attention. like after a full throttle run, putting the clutch in, just give the throttle a quick blip and it wont stall.

Its the same one i have always been running. Its the Blitz Dual Drive. Its really not that bad actually... and it should only be better now that i have a good TPS. I guess i will drive around for a bit with it vented and see how it goes. I just remember it bugged me a little when it stalled the very odd time but more less it was the backfiring that drove me crazy. Not to mention hard on things.

i think you back fireing was cause of your bent vavle

as in it stalling meh you never really have the prob at your curennt power akak no fule mods

stalling yes if you go full out to stop it will stall just don't do that and you be fine ps not many poepel have porb wiht back fireing any way's

io had pop ones in blue moon floowed by nice juicey flame

plus you have afc so if it tuned right you should nto ahve prob

and fi you still ahve prob stalling just ajust your buter fly about 100 to 150 rpm

car felt fine on the way back, but a stinkin' cat ran out infront of me and i had to jam on the brakes... half the parts in my car went flying forward, think i scratched up the interior a bit :(

temps are about 210-215 with like 98% water and 2% water wetter, not a huge drop in temp but im sure the airflow is a ton better now :)

not to mention the total lack of aftermarket support and i'd hate to have a 1jz blow on me. gonna be a bitch to rebuild or even get parts for since not many people have a clue how to work on the damn things.

only real benefits for ian is the 5spd, but compared to modding out the stock engine i just dont think its worth it....

build up the stock auto and find a shift kit for it, there must be something in a manual valve body or even something like the suprastick electronic shift system out there.

TouringTeg

yah right now I just want to lightly mod the v8. intake, exhaust, and nitrous.

The 1jz is so cheap and it came in the soarer so the intall is fairly straight forward if I get the soarer 1jz. Its supposed to easier than the sr20det swap. I don't see any complaints about support but certainly if you went to build the motor I wouldn't have any choices. I can put on fmic, big turbo, big injectors, standalone, without any troubles and have plenty of hp to get me into trouble. The 5 speed would be a lot of fun too like you said!

nash where are those 1jz's at in vancouver? price?

NashMan
04-14-2005, 01:29 PM
well if you really wana run there in van i thinkteh price wiht trans i thinks was like 1500 look int eh phone book and you will see it

they import jap mtors the guy who answe the phone hard ot make senc cause he has really no english skillz

but i still would go 2j 3.0 1j 2.5 with bigger turbos suck need the displment for les lag and lag is gay plsu i see 2j on ebay alot and there not that exp and wirieng them up is not really that hard at all if you have some fallowing the wire skill's

plsu the 6 sped does fit down side is the shift will sit about 2 inc back bit nto is no big deal and tranny suport you can just amke one and then get it wedled up

but that si all i really want to say to get off my chest

TouringTeg
04-14-2005, 06:53 PM
1jz = came in soarer in japan which means you have to extend 10 wires ! bolt in.
2jz = waaaay more wiring. 4x the price !

I'm not prepared to spend 8-10 on a 2jz.

Hey Toby, yeah sorry I haven't gotten a hold of you yet - it's been a hassle around here with exams and my roomie moving and now me trying to move this week.

But Cole said the paint just cracked everytime the trim was picked up. I know what he means because we tried priming and painting some of them peices when I was down there the first weekend. Sand a peice and prime it, then just tested to see how durable they would be and they all cracked.

We stripped them down and re-primed some peices too and still no luck. He'd be more than happy to spray them for you when they are on the car though, it would just be easier that way.

Anyways, give me a call if you want and we can sort things out if you don't hear from me. My brain is just sort of all over the place right now. But my number at home is 754 2338 and cell is 619 3919.

Enraged

ya, i talked to him, im picking it up tomorrow afternoon. i had the same trouble with the longer peices cracking. the small ones are fine as they dont flex much. i mounted the new taillights today, and im picking up some new foam tape tomorrow, so hopefully i can get everything together by the weekend. once the cars on the road ill take it down to him so see what he can do. how much do you think he would charge me to respray my front and rear bumpers? the rear is faded and the front is losing paint around one of the foglights...

im going to see if i can make the alternator dropdown bracket by the weekend. should be fun working with the 4" bar stock :)

if you guys need any silicone connectors, chris at $$$$$$$$ has them cheap. the single 2.75" one i got for reuben was $13, but if you buy the 3 foot length its only $35 i think he said. ill be picking up some reducers and some straight peices if anyone wants to spilt a 3 foot length.

Hey guys, I have a question about going NA --> Turbo with the NA block, head, intake, etc. If I was to buy a turbo, what else is needed? I know one of the Supra guy's in Vic did this swap, but I can't remember who it was.

Also, I found a Garret T3 Turbo for sale. Here is the description in the ad:

"Garrett T3 turobcharger.
Completely rebuilt and never used.
Original Equipment on Ford 2.3L OHC engine found in late 70's - mid 80's Mustang / Capri.
Turbo designed to fit into into intake manifold, I have manifold and will throw in no cost.
It requires new internal waistgate for O/E operation.

Will Take Fair Offer!"

He's asking $250, is that a fair price, or should it be cheaper/more expensive?

Is that compatible with the Toyota 3.0L I6?

Thanks in advance for the help. When I get home, I'm going to research it more on Supraforums.

Cheers
Shane

If I were you I'd look for the stock ct-26 turbo. It'll be much easier to swap and they can flow quite a bit.

Or if you wanna get fancy... I know a guy selling a greddy 20g kit, complete with a polished mani and custom L&R stainless DP for ~$1500 (I'm still dreaming of buying this myself, I think it's one of the best suited turbos for our cars).

Millsy

I'll keep on the lookout for the ct-26. Is it hard to rebuild a turbo?

The Greddy kit would be nice. *Drool*

I wouldn't want to attempt to rebuild anything yourself.

I remember hearing that Ryan had an extra ct? ANyways he's the one you want to talk to anyways.. his car used to be N/A

turbing a n/a can be done but you are kinda limted to lower boost since the ge eletroince and ecu can not compsate for boost that much

not saying ti cna be done but if you don't knwo car's to well i whould not bother

but if you are the type opf person that says it blo3ws it blow then go ahead

you can swap teh g5te eletoice over and it will work right

but fi you are doing that it be cheepr to just buy a turbo motor or front clip

but if you where to just turbot he na and keep it at stock boost you most liyl will nto ahve any prob's

as int eh studff you need for eahter way you wana go give me pm and tell yae

oh yae don't rebuild your turbo you cna nto do it

in less you are just swaping center section

ryan, are using a relay to drive your gauges? becuase running all of them off a single 16 gauge wire isnt the smartest idea.

SF sucks simply becuase of the large majority of MKIV owners on there dont consider anything but a MKIV to be a "real" supra...

I've been of SF for probably close to 3 years now, and have way under 100 posts. It's awesome to look up info and stay current with the new ideas people are trying - but unless you are directly asking a question (which you always get harassed about anyhow b/c "it's already been asked") or answering someone else's questions, posting there in next to useless.

i'd like to see that Saad Saad video.... altho i may have already. hmm

ryan you punk, you shouldnt have to worry about EGT's unless you are running 860 degrees or so, that is melting point for stock pistons, you will only really see these temps when you run the car for extended runs at high speed tho (say running 150kph+ for more than a few minutes)

750 should be nothing for your pistons in short bursts
