was the hood why your left headlight was sticking?

i doubt it, i think the left headlight was/is sticking because of a loose connection or a faulty wire

Well if you want to i can meet you at my car at lunch, im in the Jack White building. And i park in the parking lot right closest to the building there, you are bound to see the celica. I will bring the swaybars with me tomorrow, and i will even take my cell phone and you can call me if you want at lunchtime, and i will meet you out at the car. 893-2505. If i dont answer its cause i was in class still or whatever but just keep trying... I will definately turn the phone on at lunch when i get out of class.

you didnt add normal power steering fluid when you noticed that leak did you? mk3's use ATF fluid in the power steering because of heat.. normal PS fluid can overwork the powersteering pump and system..
you're probably due to change all your belts on the car now if they havent been already.
heres a link to a bit of info for PS in the TSRM

hmm... they look nice - but I dunno if I would go for it. I'd probably end up ruining it, and it would be a shame to paint over that.
Duane sure comes out with some breathtaking stuff. I saw one of his hoods, it hangs on a wall in a living room. And I have to say it's probably the most amazing peice of art in the room.
Enraged
09-29-2004, 10:12 PM
you arent allowed to get it. we cant have two burgandy pre-89s running around with the same CF lip!
i want to buy a CF hood eventually, but ill have to talk to duane, hopefully i can get a slightly screwed up hood for cheaper. i have a neat paint idea for it :)
islandsupra
09-29-2004, 10:38 PM
Don't worry, I don't want to buy it. Like I said, there's no point in painting something like that - and I wouldn't want some random peice of CF on my car looking awkward and out of place.
No offense or nothing, it just seems weird to me.

I just finished putting a new exhaust on my car. I have the stock turbo cat-back which is only about a year old.
Also have a custom 2.5" exhaust from the blue parts car. Both are useless to me.
EDIT : not to try and take any business away from Ryan, but I'm just not too sure if a 3" exhaust would provide enough backpressure for an N/A

and 3" will work on a NA without a noticable power loss (theres a big thread on supraforums about this), but you'll gain nothing but noise.

my news:
-head is at the machine shop, getting resurface, valve seals, EGR plugged, cleaning, and inspection. he said it looks good, so hopefully i wont need a valve grind.
-i also picked up the colormatched paint for my mouldings and tails, and after payday im goin to get some paint for the wheels. since im stuck with ugly stockers until i can save some money up, im painting them gunmetal :)
-the CF lip is paid for and hopefully will arrive soon.
-now that i have the swaybars, i just need a decent day to put them and the new springs on...

if you just want it for the gauge, i say ditch the gauge. i mean how often do you really need to monitor fuel pressure? from my 2+ year experience, it is basically never, asside from tuning a base level for idle. just pickup a autometer $15 fuel guage to bolt into the AFPR and let er rip, the interior gauge is a waste of $$$ IMO
NashMan

no what i mena is there si no gauge port in my afpr so this means i will ahve to run my littel mini gauge in t fitin ont he main line but the injectors pules might give it an off ready as it will spiek up and down

that totally blows matt, i was hoping your car wouldnt have any major probs.
there isnt really anything you can do but get a rebuild or swap in a fresh engine from a wrecker or order a engine from japan, lots of resellers out there, read around on supraforums or supramania for suppliers, prices, reviews, etc.
you can also just switch to a heavier weight oil and live with it for awhile, not sure how long a car with rod knock will stay together tho.

There's a complete turbo engine up here at South Island Imports. I was talking to the guy and he said it was running fine, except someone just bought the turbo. They are all over the forums and ebay for pretty cheap though.
Might be worth looking in to. If you want I can even stop by and talk to the guy on my way down tomorrow.

Hey Ryan, you are running the Greddy Catchcan right? Do you have it setup as a closed/sealed vacuum system or is it just vented to the atmosphere? Ive heard good and bad about both and im buying a catchcan so i need to know how im gonna set it up. Id like to keep the system closed but what do you think? I might have to come see your car if your running it like i want and take some pics so i can do mine the same way.

ryan: i was right! ha! :) oil relief plug in the stock 7M-GTE oil filter bracket (as shown here: http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/lu/LU_02.html and http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/lu/LU_15.html ) only opens when oil pressure reaches 35-45 psi. so, by switching to an NA filter mount, oil reaches the oil cooler all the time. however, the downside is by having this set up, you can overcool your oil. so you need an oil thermostat to control how much oil goes to the cooler. luckily, an FC RX7 oil cooler for the 13B has an oil tstat built in. you have one at work, let me know how much and ill give you the cash :)

id never buy a used clutch disk, no offense. im going with the spec stage 2, im selling my old mouldings, old wing, and 89+ wing, so ill have enough for it soon i hope (sooner if the datsun sells).
stay away from clutchmasters, ive read some not so great things about them for the 7M. they are great for other applications, but not 7Ms apparantly.
Trent at MVP sells Spec stage 2 disk only for US$200, so the stage 3 6-puck sprung hub will probably be a bit more.

My mod list (DON'T LAUGH!) lol, ok... go ahead.
1 - Apex'i power intake
2 - Suprasport 3" catback exhaust and testpipe with magnaflow straight-thru race series stainless muffler
3 - Suspension Techniques front and rear swaybars, custom (properly engineered) endlinks to come.
4 - Lenso Concept 5 17" wheels, with new kumho 712 rubber (should be here next week).
5 - Oil filter relocator kit (dunno if it counts, but I really like it!)
6 - Newly designed suprasport downpipe (much bigger turbo elbow) going to be ordering in a few weeks, but won't be on until the car is off the road.
7 - custom stereo with Alpine headunit, CDT Audio MS-100 subs (x2), custom fibreglass doorpanels housing a 3-way CDT component set (all 6 speakers located in the doors), JBL 180.2 amp for the subs and Crossfire CFA-404 for the components.
8 - ***new mod*** dented front bumper and passenger side fender, lots of paint missing, broken passenger side signal light. Contemplating upgrade to 89+ front bumper (I don't know why, but it's the only peice on the 89+ exterior I like better than the 87-88).
Fixing and painting this weekend. If able to receive the bumper by this weekend will do, if not just stick with the 87 I suppose.
That's all I can think of, not much but it's a good start I suppose considering all of it was done in the last 2 months.
Hopefully to come over the winter : suprasport full hardpipe kit with ceramic coated upperpipes, eibach springs/koni struts, boost controller and necessay gauges.
Tuition money going towards a better cause :P
EDIT : forgot to add... recently swapped "rebuilt" motor, that probably has more mileage on it than my chassis does. How cool is that?!!

that was miss under standing yes there is one there but it don't just turn off the oil it just doe snot let it flow as much when the car is cold and is fully open at full thottel most of every car wiht oil cooler has one so the oil does not get over cooled

well, according to many knowledgable supra owners, using the NA filter mount is fine provided you use a thermostat to control oil flow to the oil cooler.

Try South Island Imports. I was just there on Friday, they have a complete turbo engine and tranny, minus the turbocharger itself and the driveshaft - both of which can be found locally.

I don't think there's ANY question... of course you should.
When you think about it, it's not really WORTH putting in another NA motor. Not if you plan on modding your car, you can't really get a whole lot of power out of the NA, in comparison to the turbo.
Might end up paying an extra 500 bucks for the turbo engine, but you gain over 30hp right there... considerably lower powerband and heaps more potential for the future.
EDIT : plus... you still only have to pay insurance for an N/A car ;)

I'll be in Victoria probably saturday and sunday. I have to go paint my bumper probably on saturday during the day, then have haloween party to go to starting early evening.
Sunday I gotta go out to the ferries sometime just to go sell my old engine, then I think I am free for the rest of the day as far as I know. Probably will head back home early evening though.
But anyways, if you want - feel free to give me a call or whatever, and you can go for a rip. I'd be more than happy to convince you to buy a supra :)

i tolf them to use an aluminum plug. ill check to make sure it is, if it isnt ill just take it out and replace it before i put the head on.
just got a resurface, new valve seals, jet cleaning (looks almost new compared to how dirty it was before), plug the EGR, check and replace and damaged exhaust studs (they did 1), polish the cams (they had minor surface rust from sitting outside).
bob or ryan, either of you have some time to help me get the head back on? also, what do i need to do to prep the block for the new gasket? just clean it off with some carb cleaner and make sure there no crap in the cylinders?
i can put the exhaust side back together no problem, its the intake/fuel side that im worried im going to mess something up....
