intake runners are all welded to the bottom of the plenum, now to get to work porting and making the rest of the plenum. i also stripped the center caps (no more toyota logo) and am in the process of painting them...

Paradox
07-23-2005, 09:47 PM
that looks awesome toby!

and Millsy i've had my targa for umm.. 6 years now? i'd rather have a sunroof or hardtop to be honest, the targa's flex too much.

but it is nice on hot days, until you end up stuck in traffic, haha.

islandsupra
07-23-2005, 10:47 PM
just cut your roof off shane, use velcro to take it off/put it on.

Paradox
07-23-2005, 11:41 PM
altho im sure velcro rocks your shoes reuben, it may not work so well on a roof :p

Stupid targa top, im pretty sure i just stripped one of the damn bolts on it

Enraged
07-24-2005, 12:19 AM
i snaped a bolt in mine... long story short, i now have a small dent going up out of the targa...

Millsy
07-24-2005, 12:35 AM
It seems like the only good thing that the targa is there for is the hot days. Maybe one day I'll do a custom sunroof/moonroof.

Matt6003
07-24-2005, 12:37 AM
I love the targa on hot days, but its starting to seem like more hassle than its worth. My solution is just to leave it off.

LOBO!!!

Anyways....
I find that in the summer I always find myself sort of wishing my car was a targa top, but then I'm glad that it's not. When I was looking for my car I looked until I found one in good shape that was a hard top.
The sunroof was an added bonus, but on the 87 it does have some quirks like because it slides inwards it doesn't really open all the way, there's a motor for it that sort of blocks a bit of vision out of the back window and the roof is an inch or so lower because of the framing for the thing.
But I still like the hardtop and glad I bought it, mainly because of the weather up here and how much it rains. But I think if I were to have a supra as a summer car only I might be tempted to sell this one and buy an 89+ with a targa or outward-sliding sunroof.

In other news... new clutch is now in the works, I just have to decide what to get. I want to order the spec 3 disk and act pressure plate - but time is a factor.

NashMan
07-24-2005, 11:01 AM

293rwhp @ 13 psi.... which equates to about 343rwhp on a dynojet, so i doubt he will have any trouble hitting 400rwhp (dynojet hp). he borrowed my mbc to see if he could get a steady 20 psi, and hes going back tomorrow.

The mani is looking pretty decent Toby, it's coming together!

I almost got my hardpipes on tonight. Started ripping the old ones off after work today. Had one HELL of a time with the fender pipe!! But I ended up having to stop and go out for dinner so I wasn't able to finish up tonight. 07-28-2005, 06:36 PM
We should organize it so we can all meet up at the same time. Bob I have to come and get those gauges from ya this weekend too somtime, I'll be in Victoria saturday for sure... the rest of the weekend I am not sure about yet. Would be cool to get together though and meet you too Matt!!

Oh, and I finished putting on the IC hardpipes this evening after work. Took a bit of twisting and pushing and pulling, along with a bit of cursing but they are on :) I took a few pics of the lower pipes but it looks dirty and gross under there now compared to the nice gloss black pipes so I'll just post pics of the shiny uppers :p
Oh, and as for power gains - I'm not really so sure. I felt a little bit, spool time is I think a little quicker but I felt nothing vastly significant. Then again, I didn't when I put on the downpipe or exhaust either... maybe I'm just not so sensitive to it?
It does feel stonger though, and boost doesn't drop off quite as much, I actually spiked to 13psi, and have it set around 10 :p

So it was a pretty good long weekend... for my car.
I got the hardpipes in the mail middle of last week and put them on thursday night after work. The cermamic coating on the upper pipes turned out half decent and all in all they fit well.

This weekend Ryan also was a great help, he used his arms/hands to reach the knock sensor wire that I could not (for the life of me) reach so we fixed that, advanced the timing a bit and backed out the screw on the AFM. Thanks a lot for the help dude!! Also hooked me up with a polished turbo heat shield ( wanted to do mine for a while but I am just so lazy).

Also picked up the triple pillar pod from Bob along with black faced boost, egt, a//f, water temp and oil press. gauges from Bob.
I got the pillar and gauges all installed tonight after work and everything seems to be working great so far. I forgot to grab the sensors for the oil and water gauges so those will be installed once I get the parts I need. The picture of the guages is horrible, but it was dark out and I didn't feel like messing around with my camera.

As well yesterday on the way home from Victoria I picked up a fender and front nose peice from Shane (for a great price I might add) Thanks a lot for holding on to those for me bro'!! So I am expecting to do all the body work this weekend.

The car is finally starting to come along a little ways here.
A new set of tires is ordered tonight so I can finally get those wheels on - hopefully this weekend as well. And a new clutch will be on the way soon, as soon as I can decide what to get.

After this, I am done with the car for this year!! I dunno what next year will bring... I am still contemplating selling it but find that I just keep spending money on it and fixing it. It's just too fun to drive. We'll see what happens I suppose.

More pics to come once I get some more work done :)

ryan, with 500+ rwhp, you will spin the tires no matter what.

personally, i would choose the gt35, then buy some drag radials.

uhh rotarys can actually make a hell of a lot of power... maybe not as much torque as a supra ;) but they can still make a shit load of power. my buddy in langley has a fc3s running 650 rwhp at 27psi. hes aiming for 700 by year end.... rotary's r fun cars, just i dont like rx7's, the fit and finish just is really cheap looking to me. anyways thats my bluuurp :)

ok all tell you this

you can amke any thign fast wiht money

roties when pushing this big power are so bad on gas it just hurts you

when you runing about prim 1300 cc injectors and 1500 secoundioes

it plan just suck there bad on gas and nto that trusted when pushing big power

arturiusma7
08-15-2005, 03:28 PM
lol i think anything pushing that much boost is going to be bad on gas. rotarys r bad on gas as it is, but so would a 700 hp v8 or a 700 hp I6 for that matter. and same goes, anything pushing that much power isnt going to be super reliable. but when u own a business and have been working with rotaries for over 15 years. i think you can make them pretty solid. when you start doweling the block they become near indestructible, but when they arent doweled then they arnt strong at all. the housings can spin apart.

Enraged
08-15-2005, 04:49 PM
i want a 350 hp rotary in a datsun 510.

and in supra news.... i saved myself $50 on machining the rotors... by throwing them in the trash... so ya, new rotors, new pads, pretty red calipers....

yea on another supra note, for some reason my alternator belt decided to split in half (down the middle... so half was still on, half was down the road...) while i was going down the road... knocked out one of the temp sensors too... sooo i geuss its time for new belts all around!

rotires are bad on gas the turbo one are really bad wilum goes through 2 tanks of gas coeming form anaimo

and it only 400 hp and they got pretty big tank

my car get 400+ tpo a tank and i push 400 well whould have

my buddies glx only got about 250 to a tank

my frist gen rx7 is really bad on gas as well

plus rotirs and there truq snap amke em not mch fun to drive really

they can make power and be wicked drag car but int eh end how long will it last one nock it blows them up that why roties die

oh yae oh other thing there truq snap is really sharp nothing to boom a ton fo power not to much fun at all that si why i never bought one really there power band just is crap

but i must amit i love the power band on a na rotires nice and smooth

Enraged
08-15-2005, 07:34 PM
ryan, if you put the amount of money that you spent on your supra into an rx7, you would have a similar car. great handling, 400+ hp.

arturiusma7
08-15-2005, 07:53 PM
yeea but why would u want an rx7 over a supra? i mean it might of seemed like i was making an arguement that rx7's r better, but that wasnt near what i was trying to say. id much rather have a supra over a rx7. they are a true luxury sports car. an rx7 is a cheap sportscar in my view. and yea the 1st gen rx7's r carburated if u go to the 79 model which is one of the reasons they r so bad on gas, but they do make awesome backfires :P

NashMan

well the battle between rx7s and mk3s have and will go on for a long time.... 2 very different cars, it's not really worth comparing.

I did want, and still do in some ways, a 2nd gen rx7. I had a shot at buying an 88 with 90 original k's on it or else my supra. Both were at the same lot and the supra had 62 k miles on it. I still think of what that rex would have been like, but I'm also glad (sometimes lol) that I have my car. I think the main deciding factor was that it's twice as big and I can actually fit comfortably in it!

And as far as supra crap, my wheels will hopefully be going on before I move back down. Also ordered a brand new spec stage 3 clutch kit hopefully it will be here soon as well!
Just a few more little things to fix up and I think it'll be finished - except the engine of course.
I am seriously toying with the idea of selling though... but doubt I can get enough for it to justify it.

I don't want to hold/pay for other spots unless I know that more people are coming for sure, and for how long.
Just let me know before then if anyone is interested so I can try to make sure there are enough spots close together. I believe it's around $22/night for a campsite with one tent and one vehicle.

its easy, you just need a FFI :) actually, there was a guy on SF that used a throttle cable from Jegs or something and got rid of the linkage i think.

Hey Mur, I remember when I bought my rad a few months ago we were talking about them but I can't remember which one you were talking about... anyways I just ended up getting an OEM replacement one from lordco. It has plastic tanks like the stocker, not metal ones - but it's worked fine for me so far.

There was a guy on SF in the canadian section selling a basically brand-new Koyo. You should check that out, I wish I saw it before I bought mine! I ended up paying around 300 for mine, the best deal I could find locally... I wish I could have shopped around a bit first cause there's better deals out there - but I couldn't wait that long.

hey enraged. ill like 95% buy that off of u, ill just paint it black and call it a day. and then yea, ill just get hardpipes built off of that...

murray, use seawings express to bring it across the border. its usually cheap or free shipping in the US, then you just pay about $20 and do the duty stuff yourself.

art, let me know if/when you want to come take a look at it, im kinda busy this week helping my gf move and stuff, but ill be in and out of town....

this is basically the rad i was looking at.. they are all over ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KOYO-RADIATOR-TOYOTA-SUPRA-86-92-TURBO-NON-T-OEM-JDM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33602QQitemZ7995634 330QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

as for the wideband. hmm, i will probably have to look into them a bit more. perhaps after the rad.

i also sprung a leak in my AFPR today, so i cant drive the supra, boo. just gotta put a few new o-rings in though. i then went to drive the RX7 and the battery was dead. haha

Hey Murray, I actually emailed those guys about that rad. Seems like there were 2 different ones so make sure you get the right one!! The shipping quote wasn't all that bad either, but the duty charges would probably be killer.

I finally got my clutch in the mail last night, but I'm moving back down to Nanaimo today so I won't be able to do it myself/with my dad :( Anyone ever had one installed at a shop or know roughly how much they charge?

actually ryan its pointed to go through the fender hole, or through the snorkel hole, depends on which bend you use, no cutting required. i got kenny to make it that way for a reason, and i never got around to finishing the hardpipes for various reasons.

I met a guy today with a blue 89+ Targa, just had 18" chrome 6 spokes put on it yesterday, but other than that its stock, he heard there was a way to tweak his wastegate for more power, but unfortunately having an NA i couldnt help him with that. You guys know anything about it?

islandsupra
09-03-2005, 06:11 PM
unbolt the 2 bolts and add some washers to make the spring stiffer and it will hold more boost before it opens :)
Just tell him to be careful not to add too many washers if it's still all stock, especially if he only has the stock boost gauge - I'd probably start with one or 2 on each side.

Ryan (rx7 buddy) was racing me and yea he noticed that while he was behind me :) defiantely alot more lower end power.. and i ran it for an hour, wasted 25 bux of gas and could still grab my upper i/c pipe.. im pretty pleased :)

cool that mena no heta soak and i glad you are happy wht your pipes

reaon for the black is cause your fule persure reg is 1 to 1 so it see's boost now when you romp ont eh gas you fule will get very rich tell it sees the boost it needs to sort out your fule curve

so that is fully norm now if you get apexi super afc then you can tune your fule so you wonte run as rich

remmber stock is like 10.2 ratio 11 is for power and good road tune 11 for the dyno i must say cause you are ont eh border line of being to lean

any way it is fully normale

just switch your oil weight and you be fine and oil catch can will help as well

get chris at $$$$$$$$ to tune it, apparantly a supra picked up over 50 rwhp for about $250 worth of tuning time.

well i got the new springs and brakes 90% on the front of the car, just need to paint the calipers and bracket for the drivers side, then grab some new copper washers to reinstall the brake lines. also talked with my cousin today, hes getting his celica painted for about $1300... so now im seriously considering it. my rear bumper is very faded, the trim with the colormatched paint isnt quite colormatched, and i can get them to fill the holes on the hatch and fix the few dents....

ya, ive been taking notice of the paint issues recently, stuff like minor rust on the right rear fender well, bubbling paint on the hood leading edge, etc... it would be a good time to flare/roll the fenders too....

islandsupra
09-05-2005, 09:05 PM
where did your cousin get it painted?

I REALLLLLY need new paint, but I think I am done spending money on the supra for this season - at least until tax return season. I still have to get the tires mounted, then balance and align and have my clutch changed.

Unless of course any of you knows of a good deal on a SAFC somwhere? Still not decided on if I want to go with that or E-manage blue.

islandsupra
09-06-2005, 03:28 PM
how much do you want for just the safc?

All I want is to be able to put my car on the dyno and get a good tune. I think the emanage blue would be more than enough for my cars needs. It has ignition control, compensation for injectors and 16x16 fuel tuning capabilities.
And I want to wait until next year before I start thinking about fuel/turbo upgrades... I'm also still running a stock headgasket :stupid:

Due to the fact I'm too cheap to buy some new rims, I spent about an hour today sanding & polishing one of my sawblades so they didn't look so shitty.

I'm quite happy with the way its turning out. Its not nearly as hard as some have made it out to be, maybe I'm just cheating tho :) . I'll take some progress pics once I have them all up to standard.

After the sawblades, I'm gonna do some engine components.
