SPOON maybe tomorrow

Slo40 08-22-2005 07:04 AM

Good luck with that Jeff... I took a look at it the other day, gonna be a handfull to drive without smoking the tires at every stop. I would have gone with something a bit heavier for the street.

girlcrazy_420 08-22-2005 01:37 PM

Blew out 3 of 4 front cv boots the other night. How the fuck is that possible?

SaviorSelf_666 08-22-2005 01:41 PM

luck?

down_hill_dog 08-22-2005 03:03 PM

awd dorifto, thats how :P Adam.. Make sure you check for boost leaks. Alot of the hose clamps holding that piping together are pretty weak so it will leak a bit. Maybe visit Danny (fourtirefire) down at CBS truck parts and get some semi truck clamps and make sure it's all snug. You'll notice a big difference.

girlcrazy_420 08-22-2005 04:07 PM

I noticed that the damn clamps going from the charge pipe to the intake kept falling off. I tightened the fuck out of them and havnt had a problem since. The boost holds perfectly at 10psi and I havnt noticed any signs of leakage except for those black rubber gaskets dont seal the greatest. I'm a little iffy about going to 14psi... I seem to remember the head gasket issues you had twice in a week back last fall. And awd drifts killing cv boots... lol... Didnt think it was possible. I love going into a turn wide, cutting it sharp; punching the gas and having the rearend swing out while the fronts are spinning like motherfuckers trying to re-gain traction. But she's going back to the shop on thursday to fix the "houling" while I'm sure I can manage to pull off the boots myself.

proshoraca 08-22-2005 06:04 PM

dont worry about the head thing that was just a mistake in the first job, you shouldnt have any problems with 14psi, should be fun in the winter.

edit- ordered a bunch of auto-meter and flex-a-lite garbage today.

down_hill_dog 08-22-2005 06:14 PM

after i had re-did the head properly it was fine at 14psi every day! the first time it was done it was a little bit of all of our faults/ Isuzu told us it did'nt have to be done, i believed them and Cody did'nt tell me i SHOULD get it done.

So second time i did it myself i had the head machined, an OEM isuzu head gasket and new OEM isuzu headbolts. it was good to go and ran great, then the tranny went.

Nice to know she can do 14psi. I'll have to give it a shot when I get bored of the power she has.

Todays mod: re-installed and de-ghetto'd the install of the Rockford Amp. Securly bolted it to the floor, used 4guage power/grounds and ran a fresh set of RCA's on the oposite side of the car going to the deck. Everything is double and triple wrapped in electrical tape and neatly tucked away under moldings. Than spend about 1/2hr trying to figure out where to mount the bass boost controller, It is now ghetto mounted to the arm wrest Untill I have time to mount elsewhere.

edit: Danny, what are you running for boost? What size are the injectors?

fourtirefire 08-22-2005 11:08 PM

right now i'm at 13psi, it seems to be the highest I can safely go right now without leaning out at top end (fuel pump is weak, and the OEM filter will only flow 2GPH or something stupid). Oh and i'm still running stock (450cc) injectors. With proper fuel flow upgrades (pump, lines, filter, regulator) I should be able to efficiently run 18psi, still on 450's. Any higher than that, will require bigger injectors, or an extra injector somewhere in the intake.

Are you still running the stock turbo, a t25 i think? i hear those can be a big bottleneck in the search for DSM power, big 16g maybe in the works, nothing that you probably dont know though right. That talon must rip shit up though as it is eh, good luck with the moddin.

down_hill_dog 08-23-2005 11:36 AM

from what i know he's running a mitsubishi evo turbo and all 2" IC piping noo bottle neck there, i'm sure it's just fuel now.

SaviorSelf_666 08-23-2005 12:49 PM

Got the coilovers installed, tight as a ____....yes its that tight

Tchleung 08-23-2005 05:08 PM

Good to hear :D.... BUt that jsut means yuo haven't hit it enoguh times yet. haha ;)

allready ahead of the game.. got the big 16g and 2.5inch intercooler piping to the FMIC

lots of air.. not enough fuel yet

Slo40 08-24-2005 09:51 AM

Danny, spend that $100 and buy a fuel pump.

awesome! Get the 190 lph and you'll be running about 7psi higher pressure right off the bat with the stock FPR, which will give you more cc's out of your injectors, but you can only go so far with that (about 25% over) before melting them. The 255 would likely way over run your FPR, if its still the stock one, and shoot your pressure way too high. If you have a high flow aftermarket FPR your fine tho.

hmmmm, I'm pretty sure I have a walburo 255lph pump with a stock fpr if memory serves me right. I guess I'm running about 20-25% more pressure and well... I guess my injectors are melted ;) I think my injectors are only 380 compared to talons 450's.

While on the topic... Can I use an Apexi safc first gen (not the one with the turn knob) to adjust the cfm of aftermarket injectors... say... talon 450's? Or is there more to it, like an adjustable fpr, different standalone etc?

I'd get a wideband system before doing any tinkering to see where you sit. You might not need any of taht, but maybe you do. only one way to find out.

What exactly is a wideband? Is it like plugging a laptop into the ALDL cable and reading/monitoring exactly where the engine is running at? ie: lean/vs rich?

TurboProbe 08-26-2005 02:07 PM

Since I screwed off for a few months, here's what I've done since then:

1: Installed a Megasquirt'n'Spark-Extra standalone ECU in the Probe. I'm still working on the tuning, but my gas mileage and throttle response are already better than stock. I'm only running fuel control from the MS right now, but once I pick up my '94 distributor on the weekend, I should be able to switch to full MS control, fuel and ignition.

2: Went over the whole intake with an air compressor and a stethoscope, and fixed a ton of small boost leaks. I also finally found my mysterious "whoosh" sound... it was 2 missing exhaust studs. After fixing those things, my car is boosting and blowing off better than ever. :D

3: Sold my motorcycle and bought an Australian Shepherd puppy. Only mod so far is getting his nuts removed, no further mods planned. It's weight reduction!

Tchleung 08-26-2005 05:49 PM

Mod of day:

Sold the Acura

fourtirefire 08-26-2005 06:16 PM

sold the 4 door you mean oooh there goes the secrecy

my mod of the day is having a 1 month old ACT clutch stop working properly... i hope to smell a warranty claim in the near future
