i think i started with 35s per side (like 115) on both. deadlifts i added 5lbs per side every week until i hit about 275 or so and then slowed down after that.

kevin7352 02-03-2012 11:24 AM

most emo workout of 2012 so far.

hal0g0dv2 02-03-2012 11:51 AM

i started with 45's, but i did not do deads the first time i started working out same with squats

Berzerker 02-03-2012 12:30 PM

You can look at my DL progression in the past 4 months. I've never DL before and I think I posted up several months back upon my first week of DL and asked how the weight I was pulling compared to other people. Now how does it compare :fuckyea:

Berz out.

I'd say that my starting "strength" was around 185x5 for squats and 275x5 for deadlifts. Those were the weights I used once I started to get the form down after a couple really light workouts.

Like for most noobs, I made gains in the deadlift much faster than the squat. In 4-5 months I added about 100lbs to the squat and almost 200 to the deadlift. A good squat just takes more time to develop, and IMO, the technique is harder to learn because it's not as natural as lifting something off the ground.

Fcukedd 02-03-2012 01:51 PM

^ You were one strong fucker when you first started.

My starting strength for squats was 115 for 5, and 135 for 6-8.
Barbell bench was 80lb :alone: It's crazy how I used to rep that for 3-5 reps...now I can hold it in each hand (dumbbells) doing 10+ reps with ease :fuckyea:

$4.98/lb. Safeway a few weeks back had steaks for $3.99, but this is still cheap!

Noticed Chicken legs are $1.88/lb, pretty cheap too!

TMT 02-03-2012 04:44 PM

10 lbs away from my 2012 goal.. things are going good :fuckyea:

neggo 02-03-2012 04:54 PM

Been doing more heavy squats and deadlifts recently and been noticing differences. Sadly, I don't have any recent "before" pictures of my legs...most of my "before" pictures are my fatty ones that never showed my legs anyway haha.

Here are my most recent ones!

Im starting at
3x5 75lbs squat
3x5 85lbs dl
3x5 80lbs bench -
3x9 pull ups on 70lbs assist, weighing at 134, 6ft :(

SkinnyPupp 02-03-2012 05:13 PM

I can't remember what I started with, but I didn't start barbell training until I did quite a bit of dumbbell training (since that was all I had for quite a long time at my clubhouse gym) so it wasn't ridiculously weak

I bet you'll see big gains in your first few months if you have the right diet. If you ever get self-consious about the relatively low weights you're at right now, just remind yourself that even the biggest guy in the gym was at one point where you are now. Tall guys like Berz, Halo, you and I have much greater ranges of motion making our weights a bit lower than a short guy with comparable strength as well.

What's your press PR?

I went for a narrow grip chin PR yesterday - 3 x 10kg plates hanging like giant 66 lb balls :fuckyea: only got 1 rep though but its all good

RRxtar 02-03-2012 06:22 PM

military is 155lbs x 6 from chin
with a half push cheat (not full push press) its 175 x 4 from shoulders

in all honesty, i like doing lower weight like 135lbs for higher reps.
