I just remembered the first time someone actually taught me properly how to work out was a member from RS. He drove a motorcycle and I forgot his username but he moved out of BC after a while. Taught me that working out is to push limits and told me to work hard every workout. From then on, I was pretty serious every workout instead of slacking off and thinking "I'm just going to stay in shape". He taught me a lot even from the basics and didn't mind I was ruining his workout while teaching me, but I wanted to actually quickly boost to his level as fast as I could even though I knew it took time.

Started benching 20's to 40's and eventually 50's in a short amount of time by motivating me all the and pushing my limits. I remember him saying that "it's all in the mind, if you think 50's are heavy, then it is, if you think its just a number; then you'll do fine". I still have so much to learn but he really taught me a lot. Weirdest feeling working out with him was that I didn't care how red I was after the workout, or how sweaty or how much pain I was in, I was so focused I didn't even care about anything other than the next set after his turn. Eventually he had to leave and I was left alone to motivate myself.

Great guy. Happened about 2 years ago but I'm pretty grateful I met a guy like him and just remembered. Thanks RS

not set yet, but a buddy from school told me he knows one of the organizers and they're trying to put one together sometime in the fall

i looked at the records for the sub-juniors 66kg class and no records were set
i found that they reset all the records from before 2011 because of weight class changes, but the old records, in the 67.5kg class that they used to have for sub-juniors were 364lbs squat, 187lb bench, and 408lbs deadlift
http://bcpowerlifting.ca/records/BC%...an.01,2011.pdf
im kind of close to those numbers so i'm just going to try and see how these competitions go, but i really don't expect to win

never really bothered looking for any competitions, what other ones are there? i'll probably go watch them, but not compete in them unless the others are around the same strength, don't want to get demolished lol

bench is a piece of cake :fuckthatshit:

408 lb squat at 67.5 kg class :heckno: fuckkkkkkk... i'd get destroyed

Let me know if the location is confirmed. I'd definetly be down to join you man

SkinnyPupp 08-11-2012 08:16 AM

Based on my PHD in broscience, 15.3 seems really low. What T supplements have you been taking? Like ANYTHING

I've been thinking about competing in power lifting as well lately. I have done lots of distance running but am enjoying lifting a lot more. Looks like I would have to come to Vancouver for competition.

young and wild and free

btw, how do you guys get your phones to stand up still to catch your deadlift?

hal0g0dv2 08-11-2012 06:17 PM

fucked up stance
but sweet lift

Berzerker 08-11-2012 07:11 PM

I only counted 9? Wtf stance? Solid lift! Whos next?

Berz out.

Matlock 08-11-2012 07:13 PM

I read about closed stance or "frog style" deadlifts (ankles together with toes out) in Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength. I think he mentioned something along the lines how people with longer legs could benefit from it. It feels a lot more comfortable and easier to pull for me than conventional stance. A lot of old school lifters used this stance. I want to reread that book and pick up some more tips.

I always hog the platform at Gold's on Saturdays. :D

Lean the phone against something on the floor to make a video of your deadlift.

Yeah thanks, I thought it was 10... then did a recount and had to change it. I could have probably put in a few more.

instantneedles 08-11-2012 08:58 PM

It's supposed to be a joke. Matlock was an old tv show starring an old white guy.

Do more deadlifts/back exercises.

You have a high DB Press, because you press quite often right?
Practice makes perfect. We don't fully realize how often we have been avoiding/slacking off on a particular exercise until the stat's are really really on different ends of the spectrums.

My DB Press sucks, it's around 60, same with Bench. It's because I hate'em.

Work your back as much as your chest and you'll make progress. I know it'll be hard as I know it's your fav ;)
