Quick question RevSceners: Looking to restart/reset my training habits in the gym. I want to build a routine around the big 6 and train this way for a few months. I'm thinking 80% big 6, 2-4 times per week, with some isolation stuff as extras. Reason is that I'm finding my legs vs upper body strength is disproportionate, and my upper back/poster is out of whack. Advisable? |

DL is the hardest for me to move up on. I've been doing 531 as per red_sir's recommendation like 3 months ago. I'm on my 4th iteration, last cycle. Finally got back to the weight I was squatting before I started :badpokerface:. Upside is squatting 300lbs feels more solid. Less struggling, more go. |

Hm, if I remember right, on my good day I could do 300x3. My all time 1RM was I think 320 or 325 before I started 531..I should really write these things down. Right now in the cycle, I'm on the week where I do 5, 3, then 1 RM+. I didn't want to mess with the program so on the last set I just did 1 rep, racked it, then another 1 rep. So.. 5, 3, 1, 1. I wanted to do the extra rep on the 2nd to last set (+), but I wasn't brave enough, hence the rack and extra rep at the very end. When I think about it in terms of numbers, the progress is like nil. However, executing the rep, the weight itself doesn't feel as sketchy as it used to. My legs feel more up to the job. I'm just going to keep on doing this 531 and see where it goes. I'll report back in another 3 months lol.. |

red, the 3+ and 5+ and the corresponding weight, I was able to do before I started 531. The diet has been good, I would imagine. I'm eating fewer carbs and trying to eat more protein. As clean sources as I can manage. I think 2 weeks from now, I'll have a clearer picture of how well this is really working for me. Like I said, the execution is what has improved. At this very time, the program has led me to the weight, reps, and sets almost the same as my max before I started the program. edit: I made an excel file when I started 5/3/1, and it was back at the end of July. So I've been doing this program for a little over 2 months. |

5/3/1 is a great basic program but it didnt work for me. most of my lifts went down |
