To this day, the best phone I've owned that took great pictures was an Ericsson K790:

Why don't manufacturers integrate a xenon flash like these old phones? Too bulky? Too costly?

Funny enough, the K790 is still my backup phone. I loved that phone.

DanHibiki 09-12-2012 09:03 PM

i had the w800i, a variant of that phone.

flash is annoying/intrusive enough to begin with, those xenon flashes were downright crazy and esepcially people who just had it on auto

Honestly speaking here and not hating, but is anybody else anticipating Nokia's Lumia 920 more than the iP5?

Apple has never made anything in a variety of colors before. It must have been such a stretch for Apple to think of removing the scroll wheel at the bottom of an older generation Nano and making a device with nothing but screen. They had to wait for Nokia to think of a coloured surround on all four sides when Apple could only count to three.

i think you're mistaking the k790 with the k750.

likewise with lomac. my k800 (int'l version of the k790) is my backup. great phone. the k750 was great too. sony was at their prime when they had these out.

Only hope now is that come out with some really cool/useful apps that utilize the processor

I've been building PC's for 20 years now. It's always been the same. Pick a CPU/motherboard. Install your RAM. Put it into a case and mount up your drives. Install your video card. Maybe a sound card if you don't like on-board audio. Connect everything up and install your OS.

Nothing has changed in 20 years. Sure we have much faster CPU's and graphic cards, hard drives have gotten larger and cheaper, and we've gone from CD-ROM to DVD to Blu-Ray. But the basic PC has changed very little. I've built 2 new rigs the last 4 years and the only improvement was they got faster. They never gained any groundbreaking features - only a few minor updates like hard drive interfaces and USB ports.

Now think about Windows. In the last 10 years what "amazing" new features have you seen appear in Windows? Mobile OS's are getting to the same stage that Windows is - they are full-featured and there won't be a lot of "huge" features added to them.

And where do you draw the line between the OS and the App? At what point do you decide if a feature should be part of an App or the OS itself? Should you just put everything (including the kitchen sink) into the OS so that it becomes bloated? Should you make a barebones OS and rely on App developers to add the features everyone wants?

As to the new A6 processor we'll have to wait and see what Apps come out. Certainly games are an obvious choice. In my case I had an idea for a tablet App but the iPad 1 wasn't nearly powerful enough. The iPad 2 with the much faster A5 finally let me start development. So I think it's very likely developers have ideas that weren't ready for prime time due to hardware limitations.

Unfortunately because of Apple's closed system, there isn't much the apps can do to the OS itself.

LiquidTurbo 09-12-2012 10:16 PM

apple is fast going to be the next RIM.

Nabatron 09-12-2012 10:21 PM

^^u could be right but they have a long way to go to end up like RIM i guess we will see on how many people will buy the new ip5....

BaoTurbo 09-12-2012 10:23 PM

Anyone have verified specs on the comparison between the 4S and the 5. I'm finding a lot of bogus articles online about the iPhone 5

LiquidTurbo 09-12-2012 10:24 PM

The keynotes lack pizazz. Scott Forstall and Tim are robots just talking the same thing every time.

"Only Apple can do this."
"Most advanced operating system"
"So many new features"

I had a dejavu, same shit as WWDC.

It's come a long way since Steve's 2007 keynote that blew everyone away. No one get's surprised anymore. So many leaks regarding iPhone 5.

;) I recall when the N9 design came out people were complaining that it copied nanos design

they're very similar I agree especially this new iteration by Apple brings them to an almost identical look

Well Apple did praise Nokia for their unique and awesome design for the Lumias (which is the N9s design and its derived from the N8)

Especially in their lawsuit against Samsung, Apple even made a point to note how awesome Nokia worked on That design

so Apple certainly admires it....

Its Apples fault, their brilliant marketing over the Iphone has a side effect and that is they have to try and live up to their own Hype and that Hype compounds year after year

that's why the Ipad3 and the Iphone5 has been so disappointing for people

you can't blame people for expecting :fullofwin: when Apple has instilled in them the emotions to feel that way

Nabatron 09-12-2012 10:35 PM

^^someday it will catch up to them but now apple's brand its still so high up people will buy anything they make just because it is the latest and greatest that apple has...and thats why their marketing is number one and thats why they are the most successful tech company ever. They sell a brand and don't have to sell spec loaded tech like other manufacturers to lure customers...it is what it is Apple is number 1 right now but anything on top must come down just look at RIM's position now...

Tim Budong 09-12-2012 10:42 PM

i think Dangonay should stay outta this thread, we dont need you to shoot down everyone's opinion on things.

Plus new headphones.. they got it right with the in ear buds, i hope they dont stop manufacturing them.. and you know its only a matter of time for the iphone 5 chargers to become adapters onto the older changer so you dont have to shell out money if yours is lost or broken.

I'm sure you can trace the nano back to some tech device from the 50s if you really tried. You can find patterns and copies in everything. Nokia and Apple make good phones and I don't see them suing each other very much. Can't say that for samsung tho.

What do you need an app to "do" to the OS? I don't think you understand his point. Look at Windows, is that open source like Android?

Nokia might make good phones, but they were never a threat to Apple like Samsung is. When was the last time a Nokia device was a hot-sell in North America?

Maybe the N95 from '06, and that's pushing it.
