Apple has never made anything in a variety of colors before. It must have been such a stretch for Apple to think of removing the scroll wheel at the bottom of an older generation Nano and making a device with nothing but screen. They had to wait for Nokia to think of a coloured surround on all four sides when Apple could only count to three.

They sell a brand and don't have to sell spec loaded tech like other manufacturers to lure customers...it is what it is Apple is number 1 right now but anything on top must come down just look at RIM's position now...

What's the point of Apple releasing 1 phone that is top end? Apple releases a phone that is appealing to the GENERAL population.

I see people of all ages using an iphone and not just techies. Samsung and other companies release many models per year versus Apple who releases one phone with very good specs and a great design/look.

Apple is going to stay on top for a long time. What's your first thought when someone mentions a tablet? The Ipad. Whats your first thought when someone mentions a touchscreen phone? the Iphone. It'll be awhile before someone overtakes them.

Five Reasons Why Google Android versus Apple iOS Market Share Numbers Don't Matter. - Forbes

Taken from the article:

Quote:

Apple makes money on hardware, Google does not. For investors, this matters. Google gives away its Android operating system in order to have real estate on mobile devices and, therefore, ubiquity is critical for Google to deliver ads. On the other hand, Apple makes money on every iPhone and iPad it sells, even before an ad is delivered to the device. The amount of profits on the hardware is astonishing: It is estimated that Apple earns 70%-75% of the profit for the entire cell phone industry (that is, of all the profit earned by all handset manufacturers) on its own products, which only have roughly 7% of the global market share. Apple is taking its smaller market share all the way to the bank. Just look below at the financial results over the past five years of the different business models:
Android market share being bigger then iOS market share does not matter. Android is multiple companies whereas iOS is one company.

Is this what you were referring to Skinny?

PS: I will for sure pick up an iPhone 5 to sell and then pick up my Note 2 :fullofwin:

Windows isn't open source like Android no but you can download things that alter the way your OS works. ie. Download programs that change the theme.

It just baffles me that after 2 years with the same design all they do is make it longer...sure it's thinner and whatnot but it's the exact same thing design wise with a fancy paintjob. It's just not something you'd think a multi billion dollar company would think up when making the next generation of their flagship product. It feels like they designed it in 5 minutes. The tall thin screen just looks odd as well.

Aren't all or most Android phones 16:9 ratio as well? Why does this one look odd and theirs don't?

Cause they are 720 pixels wide where the iPhone stayed at 640

Apple will always be the known brand because it reintroduced the multi-touch gestures and touch screen. Nothing of apple today were invented by apple.

Maybe that's why they are so afraid of ditching the original design because they are afraid that that will affect the reputation of the phone. If they were to completely redesign the iphone, it would probably be an imitation of something else.

Look at the itouch and ipad and the soon to come ipad mini. They are the same design of the iphone. This just shows, apple doesn't have their own idea of design ever since Steve Jobs died. You can see Steve Jobs attempt when iphone 4 came out. The design were a little different, which makes me wonder what the iphone 5 would look like if he was still alive.

But how many successful companies really design and invent things on their own? Very few.

Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi. Their design of cars and technology are also copied off from one another. Fast food chain like Mcd and Wendy's are also imitation of each other. It just who makes the best of the product.

For apple to become the next RIM, it would require their competitor to invent or reintroduce a technology that will go beyond touch screen smartphones. Until then, apple will always be the first known company that produces smartphones.

That is that. But if you want to debate which company produces better phones, that's a different topic.

Maybe the N95 from '06, and that's pushing it.

that's a reaaaally limited view

What I'm trying to get at is that I think mobile phones have started to get to the point where they are so feature complete that maybe there aren't too many more truly useful or needed features that can be added.

Just pre-order it from apple.ca easier then waiting for rogers to get it in stock since they will probably try to sell the phone first to people getting contracts. Instead of trying to sell it out right.

I want to do a hardware upgrade

Ulic Qel-Droma 09-13-2012 11:37 AM

so let me get this straight

i can preorder at midnight, max out my credit card, they will arrive the day of the release (like last year for the 4s), and I can flip em all the same day for profit.

if for whatever reason they dont arrive or i cannot flip em. i can always return them within 14 days of recieving them.

isn't this 100% risk free?

why wouldn't i buy 20g's or whatever my cc max is worth of iphones?

there's a limit... i know, but i broke that limit last year by using multiple computers and just... i just kept buying. LOL
