I don't think he cared about the term, he wanted the huge bucks, and the only way to get that from a cap standpoint was to front load it with a long term where he obviously would retire towards the end, or the beginning as we've found out. The contract structure is a bit weird, first 2 years he was making less than the cap hit, and the typical front loading wasn't seen until this past season, 3rd year of the contract.

So yeah, I still say there's as much the Devils pushing him to leave/retire as he wanted to walk away himself. Obviously Lou will never admit to it, but its essentially a free buyout for the team without costing them any money or wasting a compliance buyout. The 15-20M/season in the KHL being dangled no doubt makes it easier too

If I had the choice of making 20 mill vs 11 mill a year while living in St. Petersberg I'd probably do it as well. Easier choice for him since all of his family is there.

I was gonna go until i saw the price, which seem like a robbery to me.

I might cave in and get em just for the once in a lifetime experience.

Canucks signed Brandon Defazio I know its old news but looked him up on youtube looks like he can fight and is at least better the weise!
