How are you measuring this 'pressure'?

With Hughes as Captain and Miller's passion, I'm not too worried about it. Hughes has shown more of his natural leadership traits in the last 6 months than Horvat ever did in 4 seasons

With that being said, nothing wrong with winning the President's trophy as long as they go deep. Winning the cup along with it would be ideal obviously.

whitev70r 02-18-2024 08:26 PM

K, no sense debating about it. Only time will tell, so let's wait and see what happens and who's right.

keifun 02-18-2024 08:41 PM

I can't wait until the playoffs start. I miss the old days of heading to the bars to watch the games.
Ticket prices for playoff games for sure will sky rocket. $200+ for nosebleeders.

Razor Ramon HG 02-18-2024 08:51 PM

The core has been begging to be a playoff team for the last couple of years. Time for them to put their money where their mouth is and perform when it counts.

teggy604 02-18-2024 09:26 PM

I just hope Hughes can handle the added abuse on the body. You know playoffs is going to be intense, and players will finish their checks every shift.

Tim Budong 02-18-2024 11:08 PM

the showings against the powerhouse teams..ie boston and winnipeg hasnt been too great.
that aside... that PP needs to find the groove.

There's more cracks at the top end of the league for the remaining games. id rather this team know where to smarten up going into the playoffs than cruising to a presidents trophy

I wanna almost say that this team has "less pressure" than the 2011 team considering the stories going into that playoff year and facing Chicago in the 1st round.

AzNightmare 02-19-2024 12:58 AM

This team should have less pressure, because their goal before the season started was just to be a playoff team. They have overachieved that goal by a large margin, to the point that "cup contention" is now a possibility.

But without much playoff experience, I wonder how much will that really show if they go deep. Tocchet also doesn't have the best resume as a head coach in the playoffs. (Only 1 playoff appearance, lost in round 1)

I don't have the statistics, but I think it's pretty rare that a team wins the cup with a prior season of missing the playoffs. I think St.Louis is the lone example in the past decade or so.
That being said, there are a few examples of teams that missed the playoffs, and went to the finals the next season, but lost.

spoon.ek9 02-19-2024 07:13 AM

This is why my expectations for the team are tempered. while there is great potential to go far this year, I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment. They'll do their best and I'll enjoy the ride however long it might be. Fingers crossed of course, but I'm not heading into playoffs with a Cup or bust mentality.

someone posted a screenshot of nosebleed ticket prices already being ~$260

I'm down to watch the games at a bar. RS Canucks thread meet?? :alonehappy:

68style 02-19-2024 07:49 AM

^ You should, it literally is cup or bust... there is zero way for us to afford to keep this team next year

spoon.ek9 02-19-2024 07:55 AM

yes, from an organizational standpoint, they are definitely in cup or bust mode. but me, as a fan, I won't take that stance. still too much trauma from the past to let my heart go there.

mb_ 02-19-2024 11:19 AM
