Canucks generally played well just a new bad penalties that disrupted the momentum. The minor stick penalties really frustrating.

Hoping Bains gets his first goal on home ice, one more game before the road trip not sure how many more chances he'll get. He's played well to not be a defensive liability, but definitely needs to get more experience to the NHL speed, he's just a bit lost on the ice when it comes to getting chances it seems like.

He never actually said he didn't want to return. Just a lot of media speculation, based on the circumstances. NGL, it does suspiciously lean that way, but still, never technically heard it from him or his agent that he doesn't want to return.

That is what happens in a Canadian market. In this digital era, there is no way you can not get distracted. Petey can say he wants to focus on the game, well good luck with that. It's better off he sign the contract, get it done to shut everyone up. Then at least for a little bit, he can focus on the game.

Don't know how the kid will pan out and he had a rough 1st year I believe after he was drafted but I keep seeing articles come up this seasons saying he's tearing it up hard. Here's hoping another one in the pipeline.

this is exactly the point though. if people would just leave shit alone, it wouldn't even be a talking point. we have an incredibly good season going, why talk about this right now? why risk affecting our #1 center's mindset going into the playoffs for the first time since 2012?

it seriously doesn't affect this season at all. it has implications in the future but that's down the road. also, signing the contract won't shut anyone up. he's looking at getting $12M+ per year on the next contract. this will immediately (and already has actually) draw criticism because people think it's too much money. as soon as he falters even a little bit, fans/media will jump on him for being overpaid and all the shit that comes with that too. I guarantee you, if he signs the contract now and the Canucks don't go far, he will be the biggest scape goat.

then you have the debate about how athletes shouldn't let this affect them mentally. they're human beings, same as you and me. of COURSE it will affect their performance. there's no amount of money that YOUR boss could pay YOU to be treated in similar fashion. every single one of us would be affected by such treatment, athletes are no different. all this talk about promoting discussions about mental health but then as soon as money is involved then it becomes "oh boo hoo suck it up you little baby". money doesn't make anyone immune.
