Brad Ziemer @BradZiemer 2m
Raymond, Weise, Ballard on ice for practice. #Canucks
With Raymond coming back, Jensen will likely be sent back down. Where would you slot Raymond in? Would like to see him tried with Higgins and Roy.
Sedin - Sedin - Burr
Higgins - Roy - Raymond/Hansen
Hansen/Raymond - Lapierre - Kassian
Sestito - Ebbett - Weise/Pinizotto
I can't wait until Kes is back so we don't have to watch Ebbett play anymore.
EDIT:
@bakestakes84: Raymond and Weise back skating. Mason skating with Kassian and Ebbett. Weise with Lapierre and Sestito. #Canucks

EDIT:
AV should slot May Ray into the second line. His speed along with Roy's speed and passing should create scoring chances. Higgins has the ability to find open shooting lanes to fire away. A Higgins, Roy, and Raymond line has potential.

Canucks owner is planning to retire Bure’s number | The Province (http://blogs.theprovince.com/2013/04/05/canucks-owner-is-planning-to-retire-bures-number/)
When Rogers Arena erupted in the long, adoring ovation for Pavel Bure, it washed over years of old wounds and brought the staid, private man to tears.
It may also have been the final hurdle cleared for the Canucks to finally hang Bure’s No. 10 from the rafters.
None of the key players who are trying to bring this endlessly divisive issue to an end knew how the crowd would react to the Canucks only hall-of-famer.
Bure, who said it was his first time in Vancouver since he retired, didn’t know. And neither did Francesco Aquilini, the Vancouver Canucks owner who has been determined to bring Bure home, and see his number retired along the three other Canucks legends.
By the way, what owners want, they usually get.
Speaking publicly for the first time about Bure, Aquilini stopped short of making his jersey retirement announcement Friday.
But, like Bure when he met with the Vancouver media Thursday, he wasn’t hiding from it.
“This is something we’re going to work on and definitely it’s in the plans,” Aquilini revealed. “We think that Pavel is going to be a great addition to all the members who are retired up there.
“He’s such a great guy and he’s such an exciting player. You could see the fans. The standing ovation went on for at least five minutes.”
During the day, local sports radio station TEAM 1040 ran polls on who had the best night Thursday, a 4-0 Canucks win. The top three choices were Bure, for his homecoming ovation, Derek Roy, for an impressive debut, and Zack Kassian, for scoring his first goal since January.
The right answer didn’t even make the list. It was Aquilini.
The only thing bigger than the ovation for Bure was the smile on Aquilini’s face when it unfolded.
“I expected an ovation but not for that long,” Aquilini said. “I thought maybe for a minute or two but it went on for quite a while. That’s the fans appreciating what Pavel did.”
It was more than six months ago when Aquilini first dreamed all of this up.
Inspired by fans who kept asking him “Is Pavel coming back?” the owner took it upon himself to make something happen with the player who some have painted as a malcontent because of his fractious relationship with Canucks management.
When Bure felt mistreated, and lied to, he wanted out. Some vilified him for it and an ever-decreasing few continue to carry a torch.
“I listened to the fans,” Aquilini said.
“He never had problems with the fans. He had problems with management, but never the fans.”
Aquilini’s road map to bring Bure home to Vancouver began with a historic dinner in Toronto before Bure’s Hockey Hall of Fame induction. It was during this supper Aquilini endeavoured to bridge the gap between Bure and the organization by discussing what the star player has always wanted, a plan to honour his jersey.
The story first broke in The Province back in November and was met with a sensational denial from a competing newspaper.
Aquilini finally confirmed the report Friday.
“Being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, he wanted to be a Canuck when he was inducted,” Aquilini said. “That’s why he wanted me to be there.
“I thought it was a great opportunity. It was a two-way street.
“When we were there, we talked about what the Canucks meant and what was important to him.”
What people may not understand is that Aquilini knew Bure long before he became owner of the Canucks.
When Bure was playing, Aquilini was chewing up air miles between Los Angeles and Vancouver.
“The players would be flying commercial and I kept running into them on the plane,” Aquilini said. “We’d chat and talk.
“And Gino (Odjick) stayed in one of our hotels, the Atrium on Hastings Street. We had a bar there and all the players used to go there.
“I got to know (Bure) there. I’ve known him since 1994.”
It’s impossible to say whether Bure would have come back without that relationship with Aquilini, but it helped. A lot.
All that remains now is a rubber stamp. The Canucks three-person committee has to make their official recommendation to finally hang 10.
“I think they are very positive about it because Pavel was such a great player,” Aquilini said.
“I can’t make the announcement yet. We want to make sure everything is in order. But it’s definitely something we want to do.”
Stan Smyl, one of the three on the committee told The Province this week that he agrees with Aquilini, it’s time to honour Bure.
“Something is going to happen and something is going to happen quickly,” Smyl said.
It is sure to be one of the hottest tickets of next season.

When Aquilini visited Bure in Russia it was an indication of ownership trying to honour Pavel in a special way.
It's about time! Number 10 was a game breaker for the Canucks. Bure struck fear into the hearts of opposing defencemen with his blazing speed and offensive skill.
Bure treated those d-men like pylons.
-still have fond memories of Bure's overtime goal in game 7 against Calgary as part of the '94 Cup run.

jersey retirements are supposed to be for great players who have shown excellence on the ice, not for community work. the ring of honour should be for the community work crap. bure should have had his number lifted as soon as he retired. no matter how many people hate him in vancouver hes still the best play skill wise and excitement wise we have ever had, its just a shame the management and previous owners dicked him over enough he felt he had to leave. its about time.

You gotta feel a bit bad for Kipper. He's played out his whole career in Calgary, with pretty good stats along the way in all categories. Calgary enters a rebuilding phase, trades away some core players and is just flat out awful. Kipper seems to be feeling the effects of this and his stats are suffering big time this year, not the best way to end your career. I'm sure some people will say "Boohoo, he gets paid millions", but in terms of purely an athlete, gotta feel bad for him.

I guess at this point, family takes priority over hockey, which is fair especially since this is his last year. Hope he picks it up anyways.
With less than a month left in the regular season, if this is going to be his last season, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt his family all that much if he was playing for another city that could compete for a cup for 2 months....

Not even a little bit, hope he gets lit up every single game.

There's a difference between wanting an opposing goalie to get lit up every game and wanting a respectful end to an outstanding career by one of the best NHL goalies of the last decade. I could give a fuck about the Flames...I hope they play awesome for the last few games and get to 9th in the West but at the same time, I feel for Kipper...it's respect for a formidable enemy that we've done battle with so many years.
But that's his choice. He chose not to get traded.
Think about if it was Iginla staying with Calgary til he retired rather than Kipper. Think about the respect Iggy showed Linden in his last game and tell me you hope he has a shit end to his career.

Funny how we were all ripping on tim thomas for taking a year off to spend the time with his family. The situation isn't all that different imo
I totally hear what you guys are saying and agree. My point was aimed more to those who felt bad for the flames leaving kip out to dry in his last year and not being able to win for him or give him a chance at the cup. I would say at this point kip has more or less checked out. If he wanted a chance to win he would have opened himself to a trade instead of refusing to report ( basically self imposing a ntc on the flames and screwing them to a degree). It's obvious that the game isn't a top priority for him anymore. So I dont feel any sympathy for him in that regard.
Don't get me wrong I understand where he's coming from and respect the choice he made.

wrong. kipper has one more year, where his cap hit is 5.8mil while his salary is 1.5mil which makes it probably even more of a factor to retire because he's paid most of his contract anyways.

Does not have a ntc in contract, but refuses to report to a team he could be traded to, results in shafting his current team and brothers during a rebuild. Sure he's still playing for the flames, but I'm sure feaster would rather he gone and have a future asset in return, even if is just a low round draft pick.

Players are all human as well at the end of the day. None of us know their personal lives and circumstances. So let's not let our dislike of the way a player plays/acts or the team they play for cause us to judge them as human beings, as I said earlier, who are we to judge.

I don't think there's should be any linkage between contract status and choosing to retire. A player can retire when he's a UFA, 2 years left on contract, 10 years left on contract, it's his personal choice (whether due to family, or he's made enough money to live a good life, whatever) and he leaves money on the table if he so chooses. If anything, I think GM's would welcome players with the super term contracts to retire before their term is complete to get rid of the cap hit on their roster, at least with the old CBA. That's why the NHL implemented the 'Luongo rule' (really should be called the Kovalchuk rule IMO) with the new CBA, to penalize teams who signed players with that intent.
I'm curious to see how the new CBA holds up to contracts that were signed under the old CBA, it seems unreasonable to apply new penalties to agreements made under old rules.

lol funny thing is, I was about to go to the last game they had against Nashville, but decided against it thinking "the game against Nashville is going to be slow as fuck, and I can just go to the Detroit game 2 days later..."
Well, they ended up beating Nashville 7-4 in a fast-paced, exciting game, and losing to Detroit 5-2, in arguably the shittiest, most boring game of the season...I could've gone to the Preds game for $60 and instead paid $90 for the Wings game....

I missed out on that good Nashville game.
My work gave me free lower bowl tickets too, but I passed up cause I had my own hockey game to play that night.
And it was against Nashville anyway... :fuckthatshit:

From what I read he sliced an artery, didn't cut his tendon. If he had cut the achiles, gg to skating off on his own.
Reminds of a few years back when Zednik had an artery in his neck sliced and he was able to get to the bench on his own while gushing still

Skates can do so much damage. I once landed on the tip of a goalie skate after scoring on a breakaway and the toe cut right through my pants into my thigh and needed 20 stitches. Fuck that sucked lol

Kesler returns to Canucks lineup against Coyotes
Monday, 04.08.2013 / 3:08 PM
By Kevin Woodley - NHL.com Correspondent / 2012-2013 At the Rink Blog
VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks will welcome Ryan Kesler back from a broken foot Monday when the team faces against the Phoenix Coyotes.
They're just not entirely sure what Kesler they'll get after being off skates for a month.
Kesler has played just seven games all season, missing the start recovering from offseason wrist and shoulder surgeries only to break a bone in his foot blocking a shot in his Feb 15 return. He played six more games before the fracture turned up in a CT scan, and he couldn't skate until late last week.
"I'm not exactly sure what we're going to get back, to tell you the truth," coach Alain Vigneault said. "He's been off skates for quite some time, but like they used to do in the old days, we are going to play him into shape."
Vigneault pledged not to overuse his Selke Trophy-winning center, saying he would limit Kesler to a regular shift and not use him in his usual spots on the penalty kill and as the net-front presence on a struggling power play.
Kesler, who is used to leading the team's forwards in ice time, said he is OK with that.
"I'm not expecting to come in and be a savior or a hero, I am coming in to find my game and help my team," Kesler said. "Obviously I'm a competitive guy and it's tough to see your teammates go out there and compete night in and night out, that was the hardest thing. It's a little easier watching them win than lose."
Vancouver's chances of doing more of the latter improve with Kesler back.
In addition to being able to go against and shut down the opponent's top lines, Kesler helps an offense that was struggling before the trade-deadline addition of center Derek Roy. Kesler had 75 points three seasons ago, and scored 41 goals to go with 72 points when he won the Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward in 2011. His production fell to 22 goals and 49 points last season as he
tried to play through wrist and shoulder injuries that required summer surgery.
Kesler had a goal and four assists in seven games this season, but played most of that with the broken foot. The game Thursday against Phoenix will be just the second in more than a calendar year that he's played completely healthy.
"Other than breathing a little heavy, my body has never felt better," he said.

If pavel laces them up for 1 game then retire, all of the greatest canuck would have worn the current jersey.

Pavel is in good shape because the guy trains BJJ
watch the Alyonka interview last year and you will see
Purple belt with graciebarra
Bure could be a shootout specialist.
In an interview a few years back he said he could barely play a round of tennis without his knees bothering him.

sign him for 1 game giving him minimal shift of 2min at $50k, allowing him to do dekes. Jersey and merch sales would cover that cost.
jackmeister
04-08-2013, 05:33 PM
All this talk about giving Bure a minimal shift. If anyone deserves that even more, it was Trevor Linden in 2011.
He probably would've ended up playing 2nd line.
Mike Oxbig
04-08-2013, 05:37 PM
Why?! Not like Trevor's minimal shift will make it on youtube anyways. Where as Pavel's single shift will be one of the greatest highlights of the year in the nhl.

not sure if serious :suspicious:
Pavel's knees are done. He won't be the shifty russian rocket. But it would be a sigh to see him on the ice rocking a nucks sweater.
