LMFAO THIS GUYS A LAFFS FAN!!!!!

Please make a separate thread if you're going to be constantly nagging on SkinnyPupp.

With that said, I feel for the Leaf fans. When you're up 4-1 in a Game 7, you don't expect the team to let in 4 goals within 20 minutes like that.

Sure, we might hate the Leafs, but deep down I'll cheer for any Canadian team in the playoffs after the Canucks. Oh well, still have the Sens to cheer for!

Nope. I like the Leafs as much as Leaf fans like the Canucks. These were the same guys/gal cheering on the Bruins when we were in the brink. Karma is a bitch ain't it?

I'm not a leafs fan, I'm a whoever is playing Boston fan

if the leafs had made it to the second round i wouldnt have batted an eye at them after tonight, personally i'll be going for the Hawks to win it again. Hawks are the type of team I like and wish the Canucks could be. With that said wouldnt lose sleep over them losing in round two either

I'm a Nucks fan, thats it. I dont change allegiance or hop on another team no matter where they are from, I enjoy watching the playoffs as a neutral observer and obviously through watching you develop feelings towards one side or the other via their actions and play but i've never become emotionally invested in any other team besides the Canucks ever.

and i still say Fuck the Bruins.

Also it may sound like ragging on them, but CBC and leafs etc. all built up this whole run and their whole coverage like this was the be all end all

I love Don Cherry, but going on his little rant about how all those fans in the little "leafs square" could "celebrate responsibly" etc.

Guess what Don, Take the emotion of tonights loss, Multiply it by 10, then add 4 more series to it and a home loss in game 7 and you'll have what the Canucks felt

Interesting reaction to my post. I guess it's different if you have to deal with asshole Leafs fans. It's just funny how Canucks fans relish the chance to poke them when they're down, when they choked as bad as you can possibly choke once (almost twice) a few years ago, and have been complete fail in the playoffs since then...

But by the logic the Canuck fans aren't allowed to laugh at any one. Not even Boston. Now where is the fun in that!

I guess an example would be if you, yourself was in the slumps and someone was making fun of u for it. Wouldn't any minor fails on his part bring a smile to your face?

I'm not a Leafs fan what so ever but it was good seeing their fans have some enjoyment the last couple of games. No matter what way you look at it the fans really did deserve it after all the BS they have gone through the last 9 years. That being said I don' care either way that they lost but the hockey was great and 100x better then the Canuck series.

There are these weird things people came up with, like you can't ever cheer for the Laffs, Lolers, and Lames if you're a Canucks fan, but when you think about it, it's stupid. There's this impression that you have to be a "loyal fan" and cheer for a team no matter how good or bad they are. I choose to follow the Canucks but I wouldn't give 2 shits if someone I knew chose to cheer for another team. You can cheer for whoever you want.

its a natural rivalry thing

in a way, i cannot stand those leafs fans that throw the "we have a cup"
Yea we know the leafs have had 13 cups, but the last one was in 1967, its irrelevant to the times now.

Whatever it is, I will rag on the Make Beliefs all I want., however, I did think that they played excellent in the series and Riemer stole 2 games for them. If they won, it doesn't change anything.

Those leaf fans probably don't want bandwagoning Canuck fans cheering for their precious anyways.

In some ways, I still feel the Maple Leafs had it better.
Their goal was to make the playoffs, and they succeeded this season.
They were down 3-1 in the series, and played with heart and clawed their way back to the point where they should have won the series.
There was good hockey to be watched.

Unlike the Canucks series.
Game 1 was garbage and it pretty much defined the entire series.
At the very least, the Canucks could have waited until the middle of the series before bending over and showing the Sharks how submissive they are.
I think Canucks played 3 solid periods out of 12.5 periods...
And they couldn't even string together 3 of those "solid" periods consecutively to win a single game.

Just embarrassing, and missed the organization's goal by a long shot.

We are laughing at Leafs because we hate them and they choked hard in the last minute of regulation in game 7....Not because we think we did better than them...and did they really do better than us? I mean, if you're not first, you're last, right?

If you want me to be dead honest...
I could care less about Maple Leafs.
Maybe it's because I don't participate in Toronto forums or where ever their fanbase is.
I don't hear their side of things.

I don't see them as rivals in any form.
I'm clearly missing something, based on the fact I seem to not give a shit about Toronto.
The last time the Leafs played against the Canucks in a series was in '94 (if I'm correct).
And for obvious reasons, we're not going to play them any time soon again.

I really don't care who they were cheering for during our SCF run.
Like I said, I don't go to their forums, so I have no idea.
Were they cheering for Boston? :fuckthatshit: I figured 28 other cities were too.
At least those were the rumours

It's kind of funny how the Leafs blew their 4-1 lead in game 7.
But hey, I would probably be just as amused if it was any of the other 28 teams.
Sorry, Toronto doesn't get any "special treatment" from me.

I agree with this point. Having lived in Edmonton for a while, my friends go out of their way to rag on me about being a Canucks fan. Yes, at the end of the day they have never won a cup. That said, they have been the most relevant Canadian team of the last two decades. I don't even say anything back to Oilers fans, because there isn't a point. I don't feel a rivalry against the Flamers or Oilers these days because they have been so bad for so long. Teams like the Hawks and now Sharks are the ones I look forward to because they meet in the playoffs where rivalries are born and expanded.

Even the Leafs, use to not like them, but now they have been such a sad franchise for so long, I felt indifference. That's why everyone hates the Canucks, because they have been a top team for so long. Once another Canadian team does what the Canucks have (maybe even win the cup), that will be the team everyone hates.

Francois Beauchemin was playing with a torn ACL...

Alex Ovechkin put some of the blame on the league and its referees for the Capitals not making it out of the first round.
The Rangers had 28 power plays to the Capitals' 16 in the series and that clearly frustrated the Capitals captain. "I am not saying there was a phone call from (the league), but someone just wanted Game 7. For the ratings," Ovechkin told NHL.com contributor Slava Malamud, who translated to English after the loss. "You know, the lockout, escrow, the league needs to make profit. ... I don't know whether the refs were predisposed against us or the league. But to not give obvious penalties (to the Rangers), while for us any little thing was immediately penalized ..." Let's not forget that Ovechkin was held pointless in the final five games of the series, was sent home in the first round of the playoffs for the third time in six years and is now 2-5 in Game 7s.

Mehhh... I hate to see the inconsistent officiating but one has to admit that good teams overcome this by accepting their assignment and kill penalties.

The Canucks did a great job on this during the 2011 cup run. They overcame bad officiating all playoffs long to reach the cup final. For whatever reason they let the series slip at 3-1 still boggles my mind.

From what i remember the Canucks beat the Blackhawks 3-0 to take a 3-0 series lead. The teams were pretty evenly matched. Then the bad officiating began and we lost 3 in a row. MG called out the refs, then the Canucks finally got there fair shake and made it to the finals based who was the better team. Not how awesome our PK was. Look at Boston, they made it to the finals because for some reason, one of the leagues best powerplays the Tampa Bay Lightning received Zero pps in Game 7.

I dont like the good teams/championship teams can overcome bad officiating theory. Most teams nowadays are pretty evenly matched that even one bad call or non call can cost the game or series.

good teams overcome penalties? LOL! dude, it's hard to overcome penalties for even the best teams, winning any playoff game is tough, the talent level is top notch, bad penalties can easily tip the favor to one team. It can sway momentum and if you are killing penalties, that's time in your end that doesn't need to be there.

Just this playoffs alone, think about how different the game would have been if the advantage for the canucks was 27-11 or whatever it was instead of the sharks having the PP advantage. Sharks wouldn't be winning this series.

Or if anyone watch game 6 of the capitals vs rangers. rangers got 5-0 PP advantage. Washington was the # 1 PP unit in the regular season. Even the caps players were saying that it was bad officiating and OVI even said he believes NHL wanted caps/ rangers to go to Game 7 for Revenue purposes.

Or how about Game 3 of the Pens vs Islanders where Crosby had a super soft call in OT to set up the PP? there was more grabbing that occured in other series (kings/blues) that didnt get called compare to the call crosby got for this OT game.

NHL officiating and it's lack of consistency is my biggest pet peeve with hockey.

MR_BIGGS

NHL officiating and it's lack of consistency is my biggest pet peeve with hockey.

I agree with this. Penalties in the Sharks/Canucks series were simply not called in the Leafs/Bruins game 7. Lack of penalties in the Blues/Kings series are now being called in game 1 of the Kings/Sharks series.

Frustrating as a fan, that's for sure.

Watching this Kings/Sharks game, I'm convinced the Canucks greatly miss a first pass dman like Ehrhoff.

Voynov and Doughty are breaking the aggressive Sharks forecheck quite easily and making that first pass to the centre whose creating a scoring chance or dumping it in.

Torts comes out at the end bashing the league. telling them how they fantasized going to OT to make it to increase ratings

this among other things , probably just the tip of the iceberg.

people critisize the critics, labeling them as tinfoilers. What? A group of men cant decide behind closed doors the outcome of another event for the direct benefit of a few? It is not like this has never been done before. yes it can be considered overboard sometimes (taking/pulling some extreme circumstances), but not always is this the case

Tim Donaghy is a former professional basketball referee who worked in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 13 seasons, from 1994 to 2007. During his career in the NBA, Donaghy officiated in 772 regular season games and 20 playoff games. Donaghy resigned from the league on July 9, 2007 before reports of an investigation by the FBI for allegations that he bet on games that he officiated during his last two seasons and that he made calls affecting the point spread in those games. On August 15, 2007, Donaghy pleaded guilty to two federal charges related to the investigation. However, he could face more charges at the state level if it is determined that he deliberately miscalled individual games. Donaghy was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison on July 29, 2008. He served 11 months in a federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida to spend the remainder of his sentence in a halfway house,[8][9] but was sent back to prison in August for violating his release terms. He was released on November 4, 2009 after serving out his sentence.

He's gone on to write a very interesting book in which he tells his story about what he refers to as 'the game within the game.'

"Almost every referee on the staff had an occasional agenda that could affect the outcome of a particular game," he writes.

He states that refs sometimes are subtly pressured by the league's front office to extend playoff series. The NBA's ultimate goal, he says, was always "milking television revenues for every last dollar."

Here's some more excerpts from his book: Excerpts From The Book The NBA Doesn't Want You To Read (http://deadspin.com/5392067/excerpts-from-the-book-the-nba-doesnt-want-you-to-read)

Anyway, don't know how much you can really believe from all this, as he is an ex-con 'cause he got caught doing this shit himself, but definitely interesting to read.

"Smith is a fucking big goalie, extremely big and good at playing the puck. He also dives a lot. You can't barely touch him, then he will fall"
"He's the goalie in the NHL that draws more penalties than anyone else. I believe it was twelve penalties that the other team took. He goes out, holds on to the puck and then holds on, holds on. When you challenge him or barely touch him, he falls. That's something we've got to be careful with. I'm going to tell the ref to keep an eye on him."

Bryzgalov cracks me up

When a person first appears in Philadelphia, where the advise to go?Your favorite place in town?

- I live in New Jersey and come to Philadelphia only to play and exercise. No reason to not try to go ride. I have lived in Philadelphia and a half months before we bought the house. I do not really like that sort of town. Me and New York do not like. A big, bustling city with a grim gateways. Philadelphia is the same. But Boston, Vancouver and Dallas - are quite different. These newer, cleaner - there I like. I do not like old age. I love the story, but not in all. So we drove through New Jersey, chose the house. We go into one, realtors say, "Wow, this house 87 years, this is a story!" So what is his story? Well, someone has lived here, he died. Then what? You walk into the house, and there smells of mildew and old age. Americans like it, but let me something new.

Communism - a utopia?

- And is it legal competence capitalism? Look at his true face in the United States and Europe. Russian TV showed us a vivid picture, as if everything is fine. This is not the case. New York, Miami, other fashionable, trendy city, as if to drive off from them...

Ghetto?

- There are enough of them. This is not a small part of the city. Too many do not work, live on welfare and get food stamps for. They just do not want to work. Their principle is: "Why should I work when I can live, let them raise taxes on the rich, which are injected. I'll sit on the dole, the year I will get it here, then move to another state - start getting there.

All journalists try to interview you. And is there a person who you would like to talk to?

-“A lot of them are not alive anymore… I would love to talk to Genghis Khan, Stalin, Einstein.”

Stalin is a very controversial figure. How do you feel about him?

-“Positive. I see logic in his action. Not without going too far, of course. But he came to power in a country that had just lived through a revolution. There were so many spies, enemies, traitors there. A lot of people still had guns after the civil war. The country was in ruins, [people] needed to survive somehow. The country needed to be rebuilt, and in order to do that it needed to be held in iron hands. Then WWII began. A lot of people came back from that war with guns as well. There was devastation all around, the country had to be rebuilt, had to be able to defend itself. There were so many criminals.”

Stalin took Russia in with a wooden plow and left it with nuclear weapons.

-“Yes, he knew what he was doing. He is described as a ‘bloody tyrant.’ But at the time it couldn’t be any other way. Yes, there were innocent people who were victims of repressions… But it happens. Not long ago in the US a person was released from prison, who spent 45 years there. It turned out he was innocent. Can you imagine, a person spent his entire life in jail for something he didn’t do.

Eric Staal injured as Canada, Sweden scoreless after one (http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/story/?id=423327)

Canada and Sweden are scoreless after one period of their IIHF World Hockey Championship quarter-final in Stockholm.

You can watch all the action live NOW on TSN and TSN Mobile TV, and you can listen live on TSN Radio 1050 Toronto and TSN.ca/Toronto.

Team Canada captain Eric Staal left the game with just over four minutes left in the first period after taking a knee-to-knee hit from Alexander Edler. Edler was penalized with a kneeing major and a game misconduct.

Staal lay on the ice in great pain for several minutes before being helped to the dressing room by two teammates.

Mike Smith of the Phoenix Coyotes is in goal for Canada, while Jhonas Enroth of the Buffalo Sabres is in net for the host Swedes.

The best chance of the first period came when Gabriel Landeskog failed to convert a two-on-one break with Simon Hjalmarsson with about nine minutes left in the period.

Matt Duchene was stopped by Enroth from in close about two minutes later.

Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 last week, but that was before the arrival of forwards Henrik and Daniel Sedin, as well as defenceman Alex Edler from the Vancouver Canucks.

For its part, Canada has added P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens to its blue line.

"They've added some key players and they gave us a tight game already in front of their home fans," Canadian forward Steven Stamkos said. "It's going to be a hostile environment."

Canada has been unable to get past the quarterfinals the last three years at this tournament. They last won a world title in 2007 and its last medal was silver in 2009.

In earlier quarterfinal games on Thursday, the United States beat Russia 8-3, Switzerland ousted the Czech Republic 2-1, and Finland edged Slovakia 4-3.

The Canada-Sweden winner will face Finland in one semifinal on Saturday while the U.S. will play Switzerland in the other.

It didn't really look like Edler went out of his way to knee Staal, or even really meant to do it. Staal had his leg outstretched and Edler kind of just coasted into him. From one angle, it looks like Edler is going for the shoulder/chest hit, and Staal leans hard to his left. Regardless, hope Staal is okay.

I finally got a look at the video of the knee on knee incident.

It looked accidental and unintentional.
From the angles I saw, doesn't look like Edler ever stuck his knee out at all.
More like he just skated into Staal and caught him just as he was turning.
That's probably why Edler was so frustrated when he got ejected and threw his stick.

But that reaction from Staal looked really bad.
Haven't seen a player react like that from a knee-on-knee before.
Hope it's just worse than it looked.

Canucks' Tanev won't come cheap

The Canucks say they need to get younger next year, for salary cap reasons, but it appears their top young player is not going to be re-signed cheaply.

With the NHL salary cap dropping by $5.9 million next season, a number of teams — the Canucks among them — will be scrambling to find ways to reduce their salary commitments under the new fiscal constraints.

So getting pending restricted free agent defenceman Chris Tanev, 23, locked up for a modest raise is unlikely.

It’s thought by some in the hockey world that, with this dramatic lowering of the cap, some NHL clubs may be more encouraged to tender offer sheets to unsigned RFAs, with the thinking that cap-crunched clubs will be less able to match.

Tanev, who just finished a three-year contract that paid him a $900,000 salary at the NHL level, would be an attractive target for clubs that decide to buck the trend and go after other teams’ RFAs.

In Tanev’s case, another club could offer him up to $3.36 million in annual salary — and surrender just a second-round pick in compensation.

Denver-based player agent Kurt Overhardt, of KO Sports Inc., says it could be “a perfect storm” for offer sheets with the cap going down so much, but said many NHL clubs will suffer cap issues — and that will affect the number of clubs in position to make RFA offers.

Contract offers — or offer sheets — can be tendered to RFAs by teams other than their own, beginning July 5.

If the player signs the contract offer, his original team has seven days to match it and keep the player (and inherit the contract), or opt for compensation instead. The compensation is awarded in draft picks and is determined by a schedule — its value increasing with the average annual salary of the offer.

Tanev — a classic late-bloomer who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of U.S. college but has progressed to where he is one of the Canucks’ most reliable defencemen — should attract some serious interest from potential offer sheet suitors.

According to the offer sheet compensation grid this summer, an offer over $1,682,194 and up to $3,364,391 — which is right in Tanev’s contract wheelhouse — brings just a second-rounder.

At that price, a young player of Tanev’s profile — an excellent puck mover who thinks the game at a high level — would appeal to a number of NHL clubs looking to upgrade their back end.

The first that comes to mind is the Edmonton Oilers, whose new GM, Craig MacTavish, coached Tanev two seasons ago on the Canucks’ AHL farm club in Chicago and was a big fan. MacTavish said last month, when he took over in Edmonton from Steve Tambellini, that the franchise needs to become more aggressive in its management style, and that the Oilers would see six to eight new faces on its roster next season.

As well, the Oilers have a history of not shying away from tendering offer sheets, having signed (and kept) Dustin Penner from Anaheim and Thomas Vanek (matched by Buffalo) in 2007.

Don’t be surprised if there are others interested.

Besides Tanev, other Canucks RFAs of note are forwards Dale Weise and Jordan Schroeder.

Offer sheets have been a relatively rare occurrence in the NHL. That’s because they are almost always matched by the original club. As a result, not many teams bother to make them, because they expect it will be futile and only generate bad blood with the other team for inflating its player’s salary.

It will be very interesting to see if the coming summer is different.

I think watching these series' has really put an emphasis on how badly we need a legitimate 3rd centre and a scoring top 6 winger. Look at the 3rd centres all left in the playoffs:

Kings - Stoll
Sharks - Pavelski
Pens - Sutter
Ottawa - Smith
Rangers - Brassard
Bruins - Kelly
Chicago - Bolland
Detroit - Andersson

The only real exceptions would be Smith and Andersson, but both are young guys who are playing pretty well. We have nothing in that spot right now. Not even going to go over the wingers because I'm sure we can all think of what these teams have in their top 6.

Alexander Edler has been suspended by the IIHF for his knee-on-knee hit of Eric Staal.
Edler will be forced to miss the remainder of the 2013 World Championship for his "reckless" and "dangerous" actions. The IIHF Disciplinary Committee can choose to extend Edler's suspension if they wish, which would open the door to him missing part or all of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

We're gonna have to send an impact forward if we want it to happen, period.

And I think its pretty obvious why the Sedins are playing amazing at the IIHF World Champs. Its two different styles of play. They have more space to work with all around the ice, cycling is much easier because the opposition normally has to collapse, leaving the points open. The PK is miles behind the NHL, there's much more room behind the net, the Sedins are left alone there and have all the time in the world to do whatever the hell they want..

Finland - Sweden 0-3 - YouTube

1:10 is the perfect example from today

In the playoffs the Sedins are getting hacked, slashed, and pressured every single shift... they can't cycle the puck because they are getting bodied, and need to rely on their strength MUCH more which is not their game...

Errikson is a pretty slick winger though.. I must agree, but most players would have scored from those feeds from the Sedins anyways..

Go google and pull up the 2006/2010 IIHF/Olympic rosters and then take a look at this years competition and roster. You'll be able to find the answer to that easily.

The Sedins had no choice really this year, and were the only #1 option for the Swedes, in the past they were able to play a lesser role, not as much as leaders and having to do the bulk of the scoring because you have Alfie, Zetterberg and Forsberg and others around to help with that.

Different officiating styles you mean ;) NHL is a joke. Rules change from period to period. Why the fuck is the OT a 5 vs 5 in the playoffs compared to a 4 vs 4 in the regular season?? Why does the rule book change once playoffs start?

Patrick Roy to be named the Avs new coach.

Patrick Roy will be new Colorado Avalanche coach, brother says - The Denver Post (http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_23287188/patrick-roy-will-be-new-avs-coach-according)

Patrick Roy will be the next coach of the Avalanche, according to Roy's brother, Stephane.

"They're discussing the final details of an arrangement. Colorado is going to be very happy. Patrick is looking for a new challenge," said Stephane Roy, the younger brother of his famous sibling.

The Avalanche would not confirm a deal is in place. Patrick Roy could not be reached for comment, and neither could Avalanche vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic.

Stephane Roy, who played briefly in the NHL, posted on his Facebook page Monday night, "For all my friends I'd like you to know before the official news spreads that my older brother will be the new coach of the Colorado Avalanch(sic)."

Reached on the phone in Quebec, Stephane Roy confirmed he made the Facebook posting and reiterated to The Denver Post his belief that Patrick would succeed Joe Sacco as Avs coach.

Roy, 47, has coached the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since 2005, compiling a 307-128-32 record, including a Memorial Cup championship.

Roy has a home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Stephane Roy said Sakic has been there for the last few days.

"People in Quebec will be sad again that my brother is leaving for Denver," Stephane Roy said. "But he has always loved Denver too, and wants the new challenge of going back to his old team."

Patrick Roy to be named the Avs new coach.

Get ready for some temper tantrums from behind the Avalanche bench.

Patrick Roy is a hothead. -One heck of an all-star goalie, with a bad temper.

There's already a debate in Colorado over whether Roy is the right coach for the team:

Patrick Roy the Wrong Choice for Avalanche Head Coach | ProSportsColorado.com (http://www.prosportscolorado.com/2013/05/21/6969-patrick-roy-the-wrong-choice-for-avalanche-head-coach/)

From the article: Roy is severely lacking in coaching experience at any level, though. He successfully coached the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to a Memorial Cup title in 2006 – his first season as a head coach. The rest of Patrick’s time in Quebec was marred with violence on and off the ice, and he never duplicated the success he had as a rookie coach.

Most jarring is Patrick’s handling of his two sons while he was their coach in Quebec. In 2008 Roy seemingly ordered his son – the starting goalie for the Remparts – to charge across the ice during a 7-1 playoff loss and beat the hell out of the opposing goaltender. Jonathan Roy fought another opponent that night before being removed and eventually suspended for five games.
Early the next season son Frederick was suspended 15 games for a cross-check to the head of an opponent while playing for his father. Roy himself was broadly criticized in January of 2007 for an alleged fist-fight with the co-owner of another QMJHL team outside of an arena.
The question then becomes – even before questions about Patty’s ability to coach at the NHL level – can Roy lead a pro hockey team without losing his temper or, worse, inciting his players to lose theirs?

well, when you're in the position colorado is atm, i think it's worth a shot. hot temper or not, he's a living NHL legend and a proven winner. At the very least, he can give their younger players some good insight into what it takes to succeed in the league.

true, but aside from winning the memorial cup with his first coaching gig,
he's been a hot head with officials, management and players as well
so hopefully, he doesn't do the wrong thing with this young team.

Like 99? a good player doesn't correlate to a good coach lol.

He himself was fiercely competitive as a player, and would do anything to win. It's a quality that's hard to inspire in other people. Some players are great on the ice but awful behind the bench. I get the feeling that his style of coaching isn't going to work out too well with a very young and undisciplined Avs team..

Patrick Roy is not yet the new head coach of the Colorado Avalanche and talk of a deal being done is "premature," according to RDS' Renaud Lavoie....have to wait until we see something a little more official before jumping to any conclusions.

Im ok with AV stepping down to assistance coach and hire tippet as Head coach. Tippet knows the pacific division inside out, if we dont do anything we are in big trouble next year.

And how do you manage to do that?

We'll also be playing a defensive game. And I remember not too long ago how fans were crying for a more offensively minded team.

I'm an AV suporter but there is no way he is here next season. MG wants to create a new image and you can't do that with the same coach.
