I don't think fans in Vancouver (myself included until I did this lil research) realize just how great Schneider is. I looked up 13 of the best goalies and calculated their winning percentage over the past 3 seasons. Now these are just wins and losses so no OT or SO losses.
Schneider 51-19 .729
Rinne 90-53 .629
Lundqvist 89-59 .601
Fleury 97-43 .693
Price 83-63 .567
Brodeur 64-52 .552
Rask 39-28 .582
Quick 83-54 .606
Howard 83-46 .657
Luongo 76-33 .700
Halak 59-38 .608
Niemi 85-48 .640
Smith 63-35 .643
Yes I realize the Canucks have been a great team over the past 3 years and yes I realize Cory's work sample is much smaller compared to all the other goalies except for Rask. But to have the best winning percentage in the past 3 years is pretty damn impressive if you ask me. I think it's crazy how some fans rather see Cory get traded instead of Luongo. There's no way the Canucks will receive equal value in any trade involving Cory.

Y! SPORTS (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/j-giguere-rips-avalanche-teammates-more-worried-vegas-061916453--nhl.html)

“Some guys are more worried about their Vegas trip at the end of the season than playing the remaining games. Quite frankly I don’t care about your Vegas trip right now. It’s not constructive,” said Giguere following yet another defeat in a string of up and down performances. “It’s embarrassing. I’m embarrassed to be here right now. It’s not even funny.”

“We have to find a way to get out of this losing mentality. It starts by me and then the next guy beside me and everybody’s got to do their part,” said Giguere. “We talk about it everyday. At some point we have to understand. There’s no more excuse. It’s not about being young. We have to put our head in the game.”

When asked if it was a of lack of talent or a problem with attitude, the response was simple.

“It’s not talent,” said Giguere.

Giguere ripping into some of his teammates. Avs should be a much better team than they are imo.

I think its crazy how you wouldn't consider trading Schneider. He's got more solid stats, younger, way more affordable contract. He should be worth at least a solid roster player,a good prospect, and a 1 or 2 round draft pick. Basically all the things MG wanted for Lu. I'd rather see us get back good value for Cory than get lowballed and get nothing back for Lu because we have to move him out of necessity.

With Luongo we know what we're getting. He's still a great goalie. I personally still have questions about Schneider's lack of playoff experience. He may pull through huge for us come playoff time, which could further cement his job here, or up his trade value even further. Either way I think is something we have to consider for the good of the team

^ is the pre-party at the Roxy?

I'm actually surprised a lot of Canucks fans are 100% sold on trading Lu. I've always thought Schenid was worth more and could be a more viable solution. The way we've dealt with the whole situation is just ugly... and there's gonna be major fallout when either or them gets traded

I agree with UFO, he can probably fetch a high first rounder and a solid solid prospect but if we want immediate roster improvements probably a top6/top9, mid-range pick, and a good prospect

We will see what happens in the off season, Schneider's value could diminish simply for the fact that there are some very capable goalies out there that could come without costing any assets.

Yes, those Goalies are under performing, but who is to say that teams won't offer them a buttload of money

Because in today's game having a top 5 goalie isn't AS important as icing the best players possible. One thing you are forgetting is Luongo can still be a top 5 goalie so if the return is greater for Corey by all means they should make that happen. I could understand your statement if we had no replacement for Corey

Again this is my opinion I don't expect everyone to agree with me but this is how I feel.

Roy is definitely due for a huge raise since his contract ends... if we dump Booth and Lu and our RFAs sign for a reasonable amount, we can probably squeeze him in for 5 - 5.5 MAX (for us) /year and still have some lee-way (though not much) for call-ups / extra roster players if players get injured and don't need to go on LTIR

That's what I was thinking; trading Lu for nothing isn't all that big of a deal is it? With the extra cap space we'd get from trading him, we can retain our core guys while still being able to make another decent signing, no?

Makes sense when Luongo couldn't even return a leafs backup goalie and 2 2nd round picks. Yeah you'd rather move the older guy with a beastly contract, but no GM has proven dumb enough so far to give up assets on par for a Luongo quality player and pick up the contract too. We will be giving away Lu for a bag of pucks come Draft Day for sure.

I don't think we will see Roy in a Canucks uniform next year. The reason why Dallas couldn't sign him was because he wanted the big bucks for him and he was their 1st/2nd line center. I don't see Gillis paying 5M+ for a third line center. This will probably be his last big money contract and the market is thin next year.

I agree there, at least for the next couple years. We're not getting rid of Cory and having Bob essensa take over. Luongo is still a top notch elite nhl goalie.

I completely disagree....a hot goalie can single-handedly win you entire series in the playoffs...look at Pittsburgh's situation when Fleury shits the bed come playoffs...

I agree with you there too. But how many series has Cory stolen? Who's to say we won't see early season Cory reappear come playoffs? I think you build a team solid enough you dont have to rely on a hot goalie to steal you series. Expecting a goalie to get hot and steal games is always a crapshoot.

Well his caphit is 5.3m. Get rid of that, you have enough to sign a decent backup for 1-1.5, resign a Raymond at 3, and a Lappy at 1. You've made no improvements to the team, and done nothing to restock the prospect pool.

Making a good hockey trade for either goalie, you bring in a player already under contract to hopefully upgrade your current roster, and you get a chance at a prospect and draft pick, and hopefully a few bucks leftover on cap space

Tanev out from Tim Jackman's hit on Saturday.

I'm surprised it took him so long. He gets hit more, and harder, than anyone else on the team, but usually just bounces back up. He's got to bulk up and start throwing a few otherwise he'll just keep on getting stapled and hurt.

I completely disagree....a hot goalie can single-handedly win you entire series in the playoffs...look at Pittsburgh's situation when Fleury shits the bed come playoffs...

I agree with you 100% but ANY goalie in the NHL is capable of getting hot and single handedly winning games in the playoffs. We cant sit here and say that just because Cory is a top 5 today he will stay hot for the playoffs nor can we say that he won't. All im saying is if Cory has a better return, trading him would be best for THIS team with how it is configured today(having Luongo still here and another possible prospect in Eddie Lack almost ready)

and for all the guys saying that Luongo will go for next to nothing in the off season, if that's the case wouldn't you let Cory go given he will get you decent return? I just don't see how giving Luongo away makes our team better... Getting back no value for a goalie like Luongo makes absolute no sense to me even given his contract. We are not talking about Rick Dipietro here lol

Good job MG/Gilman

Salary Cap: $70,200,000
Cap Payroll: $70,294,798
Projected LTIR: $94,798
Projected Cap Space: 0

Vancouver Canucks Salary Cap Chart (http://www.capgeek.com/canucks/)

Not entirely sure how accurate this is, I'm pretty sure we would have some more cap space leftover because Kesler, Booth, and Manny could have been off the books for most of the season. But MG also doesn't usually answer LTIR questions in a straight forward manner.

Roy reportedly asked for 5-6M from Dallas..I think we can get him to re-sign for a little less if we go deep in the post season. He wants to win. He was pretty coy about his rental status on afterhours though.

We won't get much back for Lu..MG has to accept that. Contract is obviously a huge negative. Asked a lot from TML at the deadline..something like Kulemin, MacArthur, Scrivens, and a 2nd. That would be asking for quite a bit, even if he didn't have a stupid contract. He has to go this summer.

Tanev spotted with a walking boot today. Was listed as day-to-day..doesn't look as optimistic anymore. Hopefully Higgins is back in time for the playoffs..and I'm just praying that Kesler doesn't get injured again.

Pittsburgh - Iginla/Morrow/Murray ->Crosby injured before Iginla's first shift. (Now Neal)
Boston - Jagr -> Patrice Bergeron injured.

He is filling in for Chris Higgins, who is out with a knee injury. "This is a big opportunity for me," Weise said. "Obviously, it sucks to lose a guy like Higgins. He is playing so well and is such a big part of our team, penalty-kill wise and five-on-five. He creates a lot. But I am not going to do anything to change my game on that line. I'll get in there, be physical, get those guys the puck and get to the net and see what happens." He has six points and 43 penalty minutes in 33 games.
