Thinking about maybe picking up an iphone in HK

Any particular things to look out for/watch out for?

Shorty20 03-16-2008 10:32 PM

@Ronin try NES if you havent already or that EvolutionRGB. Its that falling sands game that gets quite addictive.

@Eff just mainly the iClones.

Flashlight (it's more useful than you think!)
Converter
LocateMe (to make Google Maps work properly)
iPhysics (with the Crayon Physics game)
NOIZ2SA (scrolling shooter)
HuaRongDao (puzzle game)

Just buy one from Apple in the States. Hacking it is super easy nowadays and if you're uncomfortable doing it, I am sure a friend can help you out.

Heck, buy one here and sell it in HK!

babyshortie 03-17-2008 08:27 AM

anyone else getting download failed errors in installer?

Yeah I'm starting to realize the prices aren't that much diff betwenn HK and US. And in US at least you know you are getting the real deal.

IMHO Flashlight is bleh. Not much better than turning it and waving your phone around hahah

Then again I'm used to high-powered LED photo lights on Jap phones. :D

Just got Tris and really like it. It's a touch-based take on Tetris, and it looks purdy. :)

What firmware are you on? I was getting the problem too but I just updated the installer then everything was fixed.

babyshortie 03-17-2008 01:45 PM

1.0.2 =)

i get the errors periodically and then all of the sudden no more

ray666 03-17-2008 03:59 PM

So I just unlocked/jailbreak/activated everything using Ziphone 2.5c and got a couple of questions to ask for the people that can help me

-How do I get the Edge program to work? Do I have to get a data plan? or are those totally unrelated things.

-also, when you get a new email in your iphone inbox, is there a way you can change the notification sound? or at least make it louder?

+Kardboard+ 03-17-2008 04:20 PM

1) EDGE is not a program, it's a type of communication protocol...think of it as a 56K modem for your phone, as it really much better (OK, it's maybe a slow ISDN connection...but that's getting too geeky :D). Unless you have EDGE locked down on your phone account with your carrier, you're going to be charged quite a bit each time you access the Internet when WiFi is off. That being said, if the settings aren't entered into the phone, you should get an error saying that EDGE can't be activated. If you're feelin' like a baller, go ahead and get a plan and enter the settings (it's in Network, settings a couple of pages back for Rogers).

2) Yes, but it's a bit of a hack, meaning you have to make a custom sound then replace the one inside the iPhone with it. Can't make it louder other than editing above custom sound. It's too tedious IMHO.

Shorty20 03-17-2008 05:29 PM

I haven't tried it myself but I believe you can use the application Customize to change the sounds. You can download the sounds and application through installer.

Does Customize work with 1.1.4 yet? Like, officially?
