Ack. Help required.

Got my iphone just yesterday and was using it today. All was well. It was unlocked and running 1.1.3. I decied to figure out how to connect it to my comp and throw music/vids on. When I loaded up itunes it said an upgrade was available (1.1.4). I thought "oh sweet.. " and clicked on it. *sigh* mistake. I got an error and was told I needed to "restore". So I did that and beleive what I've done is restore it to its previously locked state.

So here is where I stand. I've got my iphone attached to the comp with a lovely cable connection picture pointing up to the itunes logo.

It also said at one point my sim card is not the right one for the phone (AT&T vs Rogers). I can't get past the cable/itunes screen.

I've tried Ziphone Gui to unlock, jailbreak, etc but to no effect. I tried to boot the phone in normal mode but still nothing happens.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do?

Rik: You need to wipe the thing with a fresh firmware file then use Ziphone.

Download the 1.1.3 one, then put your iPhone in DFU recovery mode. Take the phone out of the cradle. Turn the thing off, hold on to the Home button then press on the power button and don't let go of both buttons. Wait for 10 seconds then release the power button only, then release the Home button after 5 more seconds. Your screen may go a little wonky; it should. Open iTunes and plug the iPhone in, it should say that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Hold down the Alt key and click on the "Restore" button on the iPhone page in iTunes. Select the firmware file you downloaded earlier and let it do it's thang, then run Ziphone.

...at least that's how you would do it up to 1.1.1...should work for you too though. I haven't played with anything above 1.1.1, as I went to Sharp phones for a while lol

ok i just virginized my iphone and installed 1.1.1, trying to jail break it right now

using i.unlock.no but when i go to jailbreak, it says the phone should restart in a min and say slide to unlock instead, but its been 5 min and nothing

wifi works, everything else is set up... is there another jailbreak site that works??

Check PM, but otherwise I personally recommend using a site in Safari for that like Meebo or my personal favorite, Windows Live Messenger Mobile (straight from Microsoft!). The latter is kinda annoying as you gotta refresh to see new messages, but it's lightweight and quick.

does anyone know how to get wiggly icons, on the normal home page without holding it for 2 secons

The wiggly icons are only on 1.1.3 and above, and they've for moving the icons around lol

I'm pretty sure you can't get them to wiggle all the time, but that'll be an interesting interface. Or better yet, icons that you'll have to chase down to press...hahahaahahah

doesn't look like i can set my songs as ringtones, is this true?

Google it.. You can.

Depends on what you mean by "your songs." You can't set any of the songs in your iPod section of the iPhone as a ringtone, you've gotta make them on a computer and upload them separately.

Just upgraded to 1.1.4. Quickest and most painless update ever...hahah

I'm on a Mac. The best way to do it is to do a full wipe using a DFU "restore" of the 1.1.4 firmware file and using the latest beta of iNdependence (ZiPhone on the PC) to activate, jailbreak and unlock it.

I haven't tried apps yet, but I know for sure lots of them don't work yet.

im on 1.1.4 too but when i log into facebook it kicks me out after a few mins.. do u have that problem?

WHen it kicks out you of facebook is it kicking you out because you lost connection to the wifi? That'd be my guess as to why you're being kicked out of facebook. Or does it only happen to that website and not to others?

On a different note.... anyone using iphone + wifi + shaw for email? If so have you got it working? What do you have set for your incomming and outgoing host name?

I'm not getting kicked out. You on iphone.facebook.com or what? So far 1.1.4 is fantastic for me, much quicker, less lag, and very stable.

Question...

When you said the most apps don't work, does that mean when the apps get updated they will work or I'd have to update to a new version of the jailbroken 1.1.4?
