The Helium one looks like a good deal. I use this one:
http://cnn.cn/shop/apple-iphone-ster...er-p-2024.html

Bought it on eBay for eight loonies and it hasn't failed me yet!

faceless_el 03-26-2008 12:29 PM

how about if the phone was v1.1.1 OOB then downgraded to v1.0.2 then unlocked using anysim after. would the process be the same or does it needs to be "revirginized" in a way? i've unlocked it myself before but for some weird reason i don't understand the revirgization process. It's either that or i'm lazy... i should just pay someone to do this. :D
btw running on a mac

1) Sync with iTunes to backup your data.
2) Download and install iNdependence (latest beta): http://code.google.com/p/independence/
3) Put your iPhone in DFU mode via iNdependence (last tab).
4) Download the 1.1.4 firmware file: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....2_Restore.ipsw
5) Back in iTunes, it should ask you to restore your iPhone as it's in DFU mode; get rid of the message box but DON'T click "Restore."
6) Hold down the Alt key and then click "Restore."
7) Select the big firmware file you downloaded earlier.
8) Let it do its thing. I recommend grabbing a Timmuu Hortonsuuu doubulru-doubulru.
9) When it's done, go back to iNdependence and jailbreak, activate, and unlock it. Despite what the message box says, just unlock it again (even if it's already unlock, no harm done).
10) Restore your profile in iTunes. Rejoice, and reinstall your apps lol

Is it wrong that I memorized all of that? Yes, yes it is. :)

Re-virginization only needs to be done with 1.0.2 anySIM v1.02-unlocked phones when upgrading to 1.1.1. To my knowledge, there is no longer any need to revirginization, as some of these (if not all) programs actually do it for you.

KLOv3 03-26-2008 01:17 PM

Got a quick question.
My friend iphone battery does not hold a charge for 24 hours.

Does anyone know where i can get his battery changed?

Thanks,

if i understood it right revirginization only needs to be done on v.1.02 OOB phone. if your phone was v.1.1.1 OOB no need to revirginize even if it was downgraded to v.1.02 then unlocked w/ anysim

ok i'll try this, if it gets bricked then well...

Thanks,

Apple, which might be out of the question as we're using unlocked phones, or eBay/CNN.cn, buy a kit and do it yourself...if you're brave. :p

Wrong. Needs to be done on phones unlocked with anySIM v1.02. Phones unlocked with anySIM v1.1 and later don't need revirg. Just do it lol it won't brick; always fixable.

I'm using 7.6

saiko 03-26-2008 07:55 PM

anyone here using the agent 18 casing? thoughts comments? (on the size, protectability, durability..)

Shorty20 03-26-2008 08:13 PM

It doesn't offer much protection to the face but is pretty durable for the sides. Unless you plan on applying a protector film then I wouldn't recommend it.

I think there is a fix for that in the Tweaks(1.1.4) from the installer.

I figured it out. Somehow my voicemail option was missing on my account. The CSR said that it wasn't removed, so i got it back now since i get it for free on my plan.:D

faceless_el 03-26-2008 09:01 PM

a question on step three..
clicking on "enter dfu mode" on independece opens up another window asking for the firmware file? what's that.. i'm assuming it's the firmware file that you downloaded from the link. but based on your guide you said to use iTunes to upload firmware to phone.
i can't enter dfu mode using independence

hahah never mind..
feel asleep during the process..
phones v1.1.4 now, just need to jailbrk & unlock

+Kardboard+ 03-26-2008 09:46 PM

Oops, you need to download the firmware and extract it (rename it with a .zip extension and extract it somewhere then point iNdependence to it). ^_^;

what program would you use to upload ringtones? i used ibrkr (on winXP)before to add some 3rd party apps and the ringtones..
tried doing that on v.1.1.4.. it did put the ringtones on the phone file folderse however when going on the "sound" setup on the iphone itself the ringtones don't show up.

+Kardboard+ 03-27-2008 12:34 PM

I use Fugu on the Mac (WinSCP on the PC) to do the same. Just plunk AAC files with M4R file extensions in that folder.

Question is, do I need to virginize it first?

AWESOME. this was the easiest thing you could ever do. Just upgraded my 1.1.1OTB to 1.1.4! Wifi Bluetooth youtube all work!

cspec 03-28-2008 03:29 PM

Hey guys,

I have an issue with the SMS with my iPhone, currently with 1.1.3. Right now, I can only see text messages when I have already opened an SMS with someone already (i.e. I already have them on the list of text messages). But when someone that I don't have on the list sends me a message, it doesn't show up!

What gives? Should I just upgrade to 1.1.4?

Or does it have to do with the SMS timefix that I did in a few threads back.

Shorty20 03-28-2008 07:00 PM

I think you should just upgrade to 1.1.4. Chances are you'll probably do it in the near future anyways so just get it over with. Besides its literally as easy as a click of a button.

It's supposed to be a bug with 1.1.3. I have it too.

Supposedly people have updated to 1.1.4 and it has fixed the problem.
