How much money does Detroit have left after signing Hossa ?

My guess is that he is hoping for offers from certain teams (e.g. Detroit)

I'm pretty sure Detroit already DID make him an offer of around 7mil.

I can still hope for Demitra, Bertuzzi, Naslund, and Sundin if no Sundin then Mo

are you serious? 4.75 is pretty big overpayment for a guy who usually disappears for months at a time. Just ask the flames' fans, they're glad to see him go. If you guys are frustrated with Naslund/the Sedins "slumps", you havent seen anything.

It really doesn't matter. That organization is far too smart to have a silly thing like a salary cap affect performance.

gillis = moron. this team is screwed for the year if sundin doesnt sign this contract. he's put the team in a huuge hole

And save the money for who? Canucks have money to spend, and unless Sundin pulls a "Messier," (which is doubtful considering he still wants to play for the cup). Naslund has done what he has done for the team. He isn't gonna magically become hero. I rather spend the money and get someone big and shake things up. Sundin is a big guy, he can make room for other players as well. Of course that being said, because he wants to play for the cup, that is probably why he isn't jumping on the 10 million offer from Canucks.

“I feel like Detroit is the team,” said Hossa, who had 12 goals and 14 assists in the playoffs while playing on Crosby’s line.

After the Stanley Cup finals last month, Hossa said he was willing to play at a discount to stay in Pittsburgh and challenge again for the Cup.

I believe I just found a new player to put on the top of my shit list.
It doesn't get any closer to hockey bandwagoning than this. Apparently he forgot his old team made it to the finals. He makes it sound like he came from a team with no potential to make it to playoffs or something. Fuck him. I'm glad Canucks didn't get a selfish player like that. And just because of him, I hope Detroit chokes.

I am just wondering if they have enough money to offer Sundin after they signed Hossa 7.5 m / a yr.

well it's not like he had strong ties to pittsburgh in the first place......

on the other hand, if vancouver was in detroit's position, we would be praising him for playing for the cup rather than for the highest bidder.

DavidYeh 07-02-2008 09:01 PM

Why do we keep bringing in more "depth" players? Our top 6 forward looks like this

Sedin Sedin ?
Payatt Wellwood ?

And thats if you want to bet on wellwood being our 2nd line center. Our third and fourth line centers are looking fairly depleted too...

If we dont sign some quality forwards that can bring 15+ goals we might as well play AHL next year.

There are some of the unsigned UFAs/RFAs that could fill our scoring needs.

Demitra/Naslund/Williams//Miettinen/kobasew/Umberger/Eriksson

They are by no means sure fire ways of winning a cup, but I dont know about you guys, Im tired of paying to see the Canucks ice a bunch of AHL players.

mako 07-02-2008 09:20 PM

isnt Umberger with the Blow Jackets?

I think his heart still belongs in Toronto but too bad they don't want him. And I have doubts about him really giving a shit about winning the cup with any team he joins. I think whoever he joins will end up to be a wham bam thank you maam sort of deal.

DavidYeh 07-02-2008 09:33 PM

oh ya fuck lol.. forgot he was signed ... im not huge into hockey.. but its such a piss off to see the canucks this way.

yah but what do you do with all that money?

sit around and wait for it to go stale so luongo can walk away cause you never attempted to build a winner during his tenure?

Eff-1 07-02-2008 09:34 PM

My theory is Sundin is waiting to see what Naslund will do.

And my feeling is Canucks are trying to sign Naslund, and if they do, Sundin will take the offer.

Gillis seems like the guy to pull something like that off.

cspec 07-02-2008 09:35 PM

fuck... if we had umberger and kopitar... things would be different.

AX.Deadpool 07-02-2008 09:44 PM

well. supposedly DEMITRA said, he will wait to see if Sundin goes to vancouver, before he makes his move.... but Sundin is taking his sweet ass time, so DEMITRA and others may sign else where.

The word on the street is, if SUNDIN signs, naslund and perhaps demitra may sign as well. as for Bmo, he wont have any quality ice time, if sundin signs, as we would have sedin, sundin, kessler, and 4th liner centerman...

Just hope SUNDIN figures it out asap, or we could be left with no 2nd line, and no top line Right winger..

If this is the case and he can bring back naslaund and demitra...

I really hope he will sign.

buddy, clearly you dont even begin to understand the current signings then.. our 3rd and 4th lines are looking amazing Johnson 32 year old center that led the NHL in blocked shots last season faceoff/PK specialist, Darcy Hordichuk who is pretty much a better cooke who will actually throw down then we even have Baumgartner on a 2 way contract for dirt cheap!

Hordichuk - “I think that’s another reason I wanted to come into this division… I want to play in the west because there are a lot more tough guys and that’s my job. Every night if I can drop my gloves I will"

throw Brown in there maybe Cowan along with Kesler and Burrows? Rypien?

were laughing at 3-4

Being completely optomistic and all the peices falling into place potential lines could fall into anything really because how can we slot Wellwood in at top line? but landing Sundin could really move us forward and another top 6 forward signing and we may even be considered "contenders"

I also like re-signing sandford just makes it a little easier situation overall and Lu is familiar with him

Not sure if this was posted earlier in the day but.....

His agent, J.P. Barry, pushed Sundin this morning to decide on his future. Sundin said he could not make that decision right now. Barry asked if the decision would be coming sooner or later, and was told that, without question, Sundin's decision on whether to play or retire still remains weeks away.

I anticipate that Sundin will not declare his status for the 2008-2009 season until sometime in August. We're going to be talking about this for quite some time.

Ronin 07-02-2008 10:27 PM

I think people are forgetting about Mason Raymond. He can fit in on our second line quite nicely.

i have no idea if demitra is coming if sundin signs, but i hear on sportsnet, that demitra is waiting to see if he does sign, before he makes his moves.

maybe he's waiting to see if sundin doesnt sign, so he can come sign in van... i just really hope gillis doesnt bring back the dark years....

and u think mats will bring us the cup its a 2 year deal pretty sure it wont happen. Id rather see naslund and morrison signed so at least we would have 2 decent lines. The money can be spent later on in the season.

Thats not all bad at least you'd be able to get tickets fairly easily again when 80% of the people fall off the wagon.

Hondaracer 07-02-2008 10:33 PM

Another note:

You can be over the cap right up until the drop of the puck...
