what would you have done differently today? who would you go after and how much?

I wasn't a big Nonis fan, actually hated him for not making any moves when he should have but part of me now thinks we should have given Nonis one last chance seeing how he would have had some money to play with this off season.

Not anymore he doesn't! #16 will be retired at the home opener...and even if it isn't, he shouldn't wear it just out of respect for his new team.

I like hard working guys...and that video on YouTube shows he's good for getting the crowd fired up. Not a bad signing. Affordable and better than some of the 4th liners we have now.

Are these true? If he really leads the league on blocked shots, he might be the guy we want to play with Kesler/Burrows or on the fourth line. However, none of these signings address our need for scoring.

Gillis said he tried to trade for Backes before the offer sheet but couldn't get a deal done. So I'm sure he said to Davidson 'Dude, if we can't get a deal done, I'm going to put in an offer sheet.'

It wasn't an outrageous offer like Kevin Lowe's absurd $4.5m for Penner or $10m (although actually 7.something per season) for Thomas Vanek.

Wasn't Penner making something like $900,000 before signing with the Oilers?

shawn79 07-02-2008 04:14 AM

^ yeah penner was making under 1million
the whole ppg line was making 950k each or less

Yes IT is True.

1. Ryan Johnson - 105 Blocked shots
2. Mathis Tjarnqvist - 78 Blocked shots

Damn That is Huge gap between 1-2 lol

Checked out some of the new rumors:

- Habs looking at Bertuzzi - if HOSSA deal fails.
- Sanford supposedly signed a 1 year deal with Vancouver.
- Avery is entertaining offers from Vancouver and Calgary. [would be a disaster if he goes to Cgy.. Elisha + phaneuff]
- Naslund is close to re-signing, with Vancouver.

Looks like a lot of clubs are holding out for hossa, but have back up
players as a fall back. I hate how the GM's are putting all their eggs
in 1 basket, while quality role players that COULD lead or help a team
win, are being signed, and signed cheap.

jigga250 07-02-2008 07:16 AM

I hope we did sign Sanford, I never understood why it seemed to be assumed he wasn't coming back. He's a good backup.

he is a good backup.
but he is small.. ever see the McDonalds goalie sticks comercial?
That hot shot new goalie Jacie? Pettie? [JC PT] = Sanford.

hi5-ive 07-02-2008 07:22 AM

Nice try Nogoalov

411ken 07-02-2008 07:44 AM

It's hilarious when ppl say they miss nonis lol.. what has he done to the team for the past 2 seasons after getting Luongo?

Oh ya, he got Isbister,cowan,ritchie...

Give Gillis some time then rip his head out which is already happening lol

Good signing, then. Although Kesler and Burrows were awesome last year, they tailed off at the end and the rest of the team was slacking on D, really. Another guy that prides himself on defense first and...well, anyone that leads the league in throwing his body between a piece of rubber going 100MPH and his team being down a goal is a good player by my books.

AX.Deadpool 07-02-2008 08:25 AM

Wow, it looks l iek ryan johnson was a good pick up actually...
but still, we have really, nothing up front. bring us some offence GILLIS!

Rumour: Blue Jackets talking to Brendan Morrison and one report suggest Todd Bertuzzi too.

AX.Deadpool 07-02-2008 08:31 AM

1 year - 7.4 mil

stuff99 07-02-2008 08:55 AM

I don't get that signing. I thought he was in it for the big money and term?

AX.Deadpool 07-02-2008 08:59 AM

i guess he wants a cup.
and detroit looks like t hey can have a repeat..

Watch out for the ridiculous offers for HOSSA next off season

hi5-ive 07-02-2008 09:00 AM

Red Wings, yet again looks dangerous.

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Hossa..

holy shiet. strong just got stronger.

stuff99 07-02-2008 09:01 AM

if he wanted the cup he should've stayed with the pens...perhaps he didnt like the coach

hi5-ive 07-02-2008 09:03 AM

I am just glad he didnt sign with Oilers or any teams that is in our division.
But Red Wings, in same conference as we are, we have to go thru them.

CANUCKS RE-SIGN SANFORD

7seven 07-02-2008 09:04 AM

Hossa signed 1 year deal for 7.4 mil with Detroit, thats just scary. i think this gives the Canucks more competition for Sundin now

Detroits more well rounded then the Penguins.
Atleast i think so.
Thats probally why he chose to go to detroit.
PLUS+ its a 1 year deal, if he lights it up,
watch his contract offers go up next year, cause the cap goes up
Which possibly means more $ for that mofo.

I think Van has the highest offer for sundin.
Montreal has a 2 year 8mil per offer out there.
and alot of other teams are trying hard to get him now...

If he declines 10 mil, takes a lesser pay roll for a different team...
That would be a BITCH SLAP to us
