Naslund stated in a post-signing interview that he has not spoken to Sundin.

Sundin's plans would have nothing to do with it anyway. The Canucks weren't offering Naslund a contract, so whether he wanted to stay here or not was irrelevant. The Rangers approached him offering $8M over two years, and told him they wanted to build a new system around him. Would YOU just continue to sit here on your thumbs if you were Naslund?

The saying goes, "be careful who you fuck with on your way up the ladder, because you'll meet them again on your way back down."

That goes both ways. The "noob" could one day be in just as good a position to fuck over the Old Boys.

Fortunately, I believe most GMs are far more professional than that, and realize that if they let their personal feelings get in the way of doing what's right for their team, they'll be out of a job PDQ.

Hate to say it but him and Sundin are the only hopes for offense and putting fans in the seats. Let's face it, you're not going to fill up seats if the product on the ice is boring and right now the Canucks roster is a snoozefest.

Hondaracer 07-03-2008 05:45 PM

when gillis said "this is the men's club" or "old boys club" as he actually refered to it as, he was talking about the Canucks organization, not the NHL as a whole

he was refering to the personel within the organization who were considered "the old boys club" because they had stuck around through all the changes the team had gone though, and he wanted to shake up the behind the scenes core up as well as the team itself

speaking of Luongo.. you gotta be wondering what is going thru his head.. I mean his team is falling apart in front of him.

He left Florida for a reason.

The Canucks are the new Florida Panthers. Sorry Lu!:haha:

Yeah... the new Florida, except minus the sun and the family.
He might as well stay in Florida. :(

This is what I predict realstically will happen. Sundin won't play for Canucks. Possibly may go to NYR with Naslund... (Don't really care, cause it's not Canucks concern where he goes to if its not with the Canucks.) Gillis will become under so much pressure and overpay a huge amount to bribe some player still available but probably past his prime. Maybe one 40-50 pt guy. Just one. (that guy will end up not providing great impact) And that's our offensive core right there along with Sedins and a bunch of rookies or new guys that have been in the league under 5 years. Canucks finish in 11th or 12th place. Something like that.

dasani604 07-03-2008 05:46 PM

i feel sorry for the people who bought seasonal tickets for the upcoming season. canucks are gonna be horrid for a couple of seasons and i'm expecting luongo to go after his contract ends (in 2 years) or if gillis trades him for players.

is jagr somone you really want to sign and build around? he isnt half the leader Sundin is and he isnt a player that can just step in and make players around him better

Sundin for 2 years is only a bandaid, but it's the best damn chance we have

You would be silly not to accept the offer. Also factor in the fact that he's moving to a city like NY where he'll get more exposure and if he plays like the Naslund a few years back he might land himself a nice endorsement deal.

Nope, I don't want the Canucks to sign Sundin or Jagr but what choices do we have left?

Brian Burke, for one, seems like the kind of GM that would hold strong to the old boys club unwritten rules. just look at how hes still going after Kevin Lowe a year later for going against the unwritten rules.

True, there is more to getting a player then a lot of us think.

Sure there is no guarantee NONIS would have done any better, but from what we've seen Gillis do in the past few days, [sure its only been 3 days], but look at what we have lost, what we have gained, and what we retain for our future.

With naslund and morrisons contracts done, this was suppose to be nonis's year to finally build his team with the increased cap space, instead of just getting 3rd/4th line plugger's.. I think he could have built a well rounded team. [he did get us luongo... and practically had brunstrom]

And the Ownership group, was just impatient, and what i think acted too hastily.

We're not TOTALLY fked.. not just yet.
It doesnt take big names to build a solid team, and hopefully Gillis has
something... some sort of plan.

However, if Gillis destroys the team in the upcoming months,
the ownership group better do something about it.. I cant see
them being very happy at the moment.
