can someone explain what's going on and how does this offer sheet thing work?

suprasian 07-04-2008 03:00 PM

^ i think as a restricted free agent any team can offer you a contract but your previous team has the right to match any offer. if your previous team decides not to match the contract some other team has offered to you and you sign on with new team, your previous team is compensated with draft picks from your new team. for exmaple edmonton offered dustin penner (who was an RFA) 4 mill a year. anaheim didnt match the contract so they lost dustin penner to the oilers. BUT the oilers have to give a 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounder (i think) to the ducks as compensation....please correct me if im wrong

clowe 07-04-2008 03:12 PM

I think Ohlund's contract is up after next season so I'm not too sure about making him captain

10charbs

Gh0stRider 07-04-2008 04:06 PM

nooo..not flipula. Detroit wont give him up.

Gh0stRider 07-04-2008 04:09 PM

wings are not up against cap yet. They should have enough to sign flippula.

actually, anyone know what the offer was?

He's been a canuck for 10 seasons, going on 11.

I think he'd take a reasonable discounted salary if he wants to stay.

I'm only basing this on the fact, that I've heard him speak HIGHLY of Vancouver,
on many seperate occasions, over the years.

OHLUND OR MITCHELL FOR CAPTAIN.
WHO WOULD YOU PICK?

we had that..but it sorta stopped after AV took over.. i mean..we had a very similar core D group when crow was in charge and we were one of hte top teams in the league when it comes to pts form the D...

first pass up the play to lead a break out from ur own end=basic txtbook hockey thats efficient

nasland will have a better yr in NY. as for the dman that were willing to make that first pass...we had 2 of them...jovo and sopel. but AV's d-core is nowhere similar to crowe's dman. stay at home vs rushing dman.

he did pretty good up until the injury. and he was a monster in previous years during the playoffs. 3mil for him is pretty good.

yup..thats true. he declined to being the captain and the next candidate was nasland. thing was, nasland was kinda reluctant to take it, but he ended up doing it. anyone hear his interview after signing with NYR? he went on to say he was uncomfortable since AV took over and the team just didn't have enough talent. he was actually looking forward to coming back, but he never got a call, and then the rangers came calling. he honestly deserved more than that. what a way for gillis to bitchslap his former client.

lilaznviper 07-04-2008 04:56 PM

ohlund will take a home town discount since hes been playing in vanocuver his whole nhl life... i think salo took a discount too since hes old and coming to his retirement

gillis is just an ass he should of atleast given a contract to nazzy at a discount of course

it would of been awesome to sign bert nazzy and mo for like 10 million for 3 players...now that would be a huge discount

yeah, i was pretty pissed to hear that gillis never even OFFERED naslund a deal... For the Leaf fans, it would be like Fletcher coming in, and not offering sundin a deal....

naslund at 4mil with 50-60 points a season, is still very good..

Gillis should have went after the "ingredient(s)" to build a monsterous team,
and not spend his time searching for a monster to put on a team....

ChaKo 07-04-2008 05:14 PM

i'm actually very sad to see naslund go..whether or not he was producing, he was still the face of our team for many years. i don't think he's anywhere near past his prime, he just wasn't able to thrive in av's system. something funny i found while searching for naslund videos..the first link i came across had comments full of "fake" and "edited" but it looks pretty real to me.

There's what a lot of you need.

The way I see it, there are still a lot of players out there, and us missing out on one superstar or another doesn't mean our team's eating with the dogs all of a sudden. Yes, it's disconcerting to see, but no, I won't panic if nothing's happened and the season's about to start.

this was never supposed to be our rebuilding phase...

if its rebuilding we wouldve traded luongo sedins etc.

i dont know why, but the article in todays Province, on A3 about Naslund..
the guy on the bottom, Alvin Chin, looks really familiar to me.
???...

Hondaracer 07-04-2008 07:54 PM

it's pretty funny to see that deep down, 90% of canuck fans are all the same lol

not really....naslund got 4, maybe a bit less if Vancouver signed him. Morrison and Bertuzzi won't get more than 3 each, so thats 10 right there. It would prob be closer to 9 in reality.

and wats that? that they have no faith in the team watsoever?

U know wat Gillis might have a plan in mind, give him alil credit. His recent signings havent been spectacular in some peoples minds but i say wait and see wat hes tryin to accomplish. I think he said that he wanted to win a cup here..... I dont really think his goal has changed. Give it alil time.

hotjoint 07-04-2008 08:59 PM

next season will be interesting....

Mitchell. Ohlund is one of my favorite Canucks but he's not our captain. He plays with intensity sometimes but we need a guy that's a serious leader by example and vocally.

Ronin 07-04-2008 09:15 PM

Did you guys hear the theory that the Leafs might've accidently signed the wrong D-man? LOL...because the press conference they gave exactly described Kurt Sauer...not Jeff Finger.

Seamo 07-04-2008 09:15 PM

we got matt cullen??

edit: nvm its the shittier cullen guy
