You 8900 curve guys, is the sound quality from the external speakers as good as the bold?

spades 08-18-2009 03:15 PM

what themes and mods are you guys using on your bold, anyone using the quick launch or know any nice themes to download?

Depends which carrier you want to go with. The Tour is an amazing phone, but has a complete lack of wifi. It is CDMA only, at least to my understanding.

The 8900 is also good, 3.2mp cam but has no 3g. Where it makes up is with 256mb application memory.

The Bold (9000) is the all in one package really. Snappy processor (624mhz I think), 128mb app memory, and great keyboard. If you could wait it out for another month or two for the 9700 (aka the bold 2) I would. There is also Odin (Storm 2) coming out in the fall. Early reviews seem quite promising.

will the tour work with 3G on the fido network?

No. Tour only sports 2100Mhz 3G antenna. Fido/Rogers's 3G works on 850/1900Mhz bands.

kayceeee 08-19-2009 05:08 PM

hmmm im probably going to pick up a bold then dont wanna wait for the 9700...not sure how the optical trackpad is going to perform..rather stick with the trackball cuz i've tried the one on the x1 and didnt like it at all

Depends on what you want really. There's a lot to be had.

Must haves include

1) Viigo
2) Vlingo
3) Food Network App (if you like cooking/food network)
4) Quick Launch
5) Poynt
6) Google Maps
7) BT Sidekick Beta (in lieu of point)
8) Unsynced Music Player (Beta)
9) PodTrapper (Worth every penny. Much better than Stitcher)

There's a lot more out there, but for myself, that is what I consider to be essential and cannot live without.

The theme I'm rocking out on is the Bold Ego. It costs some money, but you get some extra icons on the home screen. Again, for me, well worth the $2 or $3 I spend on it.

Hope that helps and enjoy the Bold!

^ add quickpull to that list, instead of pulling the battery, the app restarts the phone to free up memory.

I think you can delete it under applications, dont quote me on that though
I'm still having a hard time remembering all the bb tips and tricks I learned when I first had a berry

thats the only way to get rid of it, or you can hide the icons.

That's gay.

whats the first thing to do when getting a bold? updating it? visit crackberry?

Alby 08-19-2009 09:47 PM

i find quickpull to be quite useless. the only time that the bold should be restarted is when its going at a crawling speed or when your memory is extremely low and thats easily done by alt shift del.

first thing to do after getting a bold is to learn and get comfortable with it. visiting CB will definitely give you a lot of info and tips.

I like the fact that once my app memory drops below 20mb, it restarts automatically for me. I got pro, and its possible to set up to restart during the night and reset app memory for optimal performance. Worth it to me. More specifically, worth it if you have something like an otter case where you cannot easily reach the batter.

or, you could just have an app that automatically does it for you at a set time. mine automatically re-boots itself at 5am every morning and i can go through the entire day without ever having to worry about anything.

My battery pull takes like 7+ minutes to come back to life. I know it takes a long time but is this normal? Also a good app to get is BerryBuzz. I bought the older version and recently upgraded to the newer version for a total of $7US. Its great cause I can custom the LED to whatever I want for each messaging option. MMS/Text/BBM/Email etc all work fine now. So when I'm in class I leave my phone on my desk and make a profile so only the lights come on. 'Cause the vibration motor in the Bolds are so damn loud they make the fuckin desk sound like a jackhammer.

Where's everybody buying their screen protectors? I bought some on eBay last week and they haven't come yet. I've had my phone for about a week now and I've still got the ghetto one out of the box on it. I don't need anything crazy like the $30 InvisibleShield or w/e it's called. I saw some at the night market for $7, are they crap?

TekDragon 08-20-2009 09:51 PM

You will get what you pay for with screen protectors. London Drugs has the invisible shield. Google around, you'll quickly find what is good and what isn't.

As for the reset, yeah, 4 to 8 minutes is about right.

Kilinim 08-20-2009 09:56 PM

Wow I just read all 30 pages of this thread lol. I'm still a bit unsure on if I really want to get the Bold or wait for something newer/better.

wouldn't a soft reset work just the same as a battery pull?
