^no... rooting will only allow developer root access to the os... for everyday users like us.. it doesn't really do anything.

RRxtar 01-01-2012 03:39 PM

So many apps pouring into app world now. Hadnt checked for a while and looked yesterday and ended up installing a bunch more useful apps.

Lowered_Klass 01-01-2012 06:22 PM

Surfing RS on the playbook isn't always the best... most sites are fine, but the only site thats giving me grief so far is this one :(

Nlkko 01-01-2012 09:46 PM

They need to fix the BS wifi timing out. I've even switched it to G-only and shits still disconnecting left and right.

For $200 im liking it quite a bit. My #1 use is streaming shows/movies/nhl+nfl games on it. Makes it so much easier to watch than on a laptop or ps3.

Rooting it opens up a whole bunch of possibilities. It's still takes some time to get it going, but it's fairly straightforward, now. The major thing that rooting will allow you to do is to install the Android Market. Then you can download Android apps.

To place them on the Playbook desktop, the Android APK files can be converted to Blackberry BAR files, and then "sideloaded" into the Playbook.

i had no problem surfing RS on mine until about a week ago maybe. now it rarely loads threads. every other forum runs flawlessly.

I dont have a ton but right meow the ones Im happy with
Cineplex Mobile
Conqu
Convertinator <-awesome converter for weight, length, currency, etc.
ScoreMobile
ScratchPad <- decent paint type doodler
Ridgid Didgital Bubble Level <- acts as a level but has an option that uses the camera as a level

theres starting to be more remote control type apps popping up like for remote access on your PC and better bridges to your phone. like you can play media stored on your phone on your PB now. also theres apps now for better file and folder management, etc. most of these i think will be improved upon in the native apps for os2 in february tho.
looked like there were lots of other neat utilities out there for score keeping and time keeping and gimicky things like that. hopefully more useful ones get developed and of course the android apps will be good too.

I hope your normal written communication skills are better than what you've demonstrated in your post. Perhaps elaborate on the problem?

I don't check this thread very often, so I'm not sure if you've previously discussed your problem.

Nabatron 01-03-2012 07:02 PM

^^^ I hope you take your own advice and read previous posts that I have already wrote to get you up to speed instead of being a troll...another person trying to bash grammar and spelling bring something else to the table..

bluejays 01-03-2012 07:13 PM

Ughh, did a factory reset on my playbook and now when I'm in the set up stage it can't find any wifi connections and I can't continue on with the set up. Anyone know what I can do?

edit: can't add a connection manually as well

Glad I'm not alone. Still a shitty deal, as RS is the only site that seems to give me grief, but it's my 'go to' site when I'm lookin' to kill time, etc. :(

Hopefully it gets better.

RRxtar 01-03-2012 08:27 PM

When you click on a forum or thread on RS does the little blue loading bar go about 1/4th of the way and then disappear? Occasionally if i wait like 15 seconds after it will load the page.

It has to be something with RS because every other forum works fine.

Presto 01-03-2012 08:32 PM

Well, the servers have moved recently, and the IP has changed a bunch. In windows, you could do a IPCONFIG /flushdns, but I don't know what the Playbook equivalent is.

Yup, same shit with me :(

Nlkko 01-03-2012 09:42 PM

Has to do with the server moving. It was lightning fast before. :okay:

SkinnyPupp 01-03-2012 10:58 PM

That works. Is that necessary if BB can't access RS?

SkinnyPupp 01-04-2012 12:40 AM

BIS is a POS
