Mine was sealed as well.

Lowered_Klass 12-19-2011 07:48 PM

So weird! It's not like there was a seal, and it was broken. There isn't even any marks on the box, it's like someone forgot to put them on :lol

Let's just hope it works fine, and doesn't need to be returned. You KNOW they wouldn't accept it, even though they never put seals on it! Fingers crossed.

At least it made it before Xmas, so my bro in-law now has something to open haha

areyez 12-20-2011 11:14 AM

so whos running on 2.0 beta os?

skyxx 12-20-2011 11:54 AM

Blackberry Tablets are on sale for Boxing week again. Same prices as before 199 etc etc but Walmart does it better and sells it at 198/298/398 etc etc. lol

Sale should be everywhere, Staples, Walmart etc etc.

Alright, 32GB at Staples is 249 instead of Walmarts 298 at the moment. SO GG 50 bucks more for an etra 32gb!

My first order from bell had a bright colored dead pixel.

It is if the new one you wait forever for also has a dead pixel. The cycle could go on for a while potentially.

Nabatron 12-20-2011 08:50 PM

just noticing the quality control of RIM/blackberry is fucking just a disgrace! how can some many playbooks have so many dead pixels/dust underneath the screen do they have monkey checking their products before leaving their facilities? its fucking annoying if u ask me!

Dead pixel is a black pixel, they can't be fixed. Color pixels aren't dead, they are stucked pixels and can be fixed pretty easy.

I wouldn't worry about returning or exchanging if its not easy. They're not that noticeable after a while with all the crap on your screen (finger prints, dirts, etc.)

I'm quite picky when it comes to dead pixels since many of the electronics I own don't have any.

The only ones that gave me problems were the blackberry playbooks and the samsung galaxy s2:heckno:

i googled how to 'fix' it and i don't have confidence in those solutions lol

Nabatron 12-21-2011 07:49 PM

Go to App World search for Screen Helper buy for $1(the free version is just demo). Let it run when you sleep, wake up and problem solved. :fullofwin:

yes i d/l the free version and ran it all afternoon with no result, i'm not confident thepaid version will work. shopblackberry's customer service is quite bad. if no reply in a few days I'll be forced to dispute through my credit card company. at this point i just want to return it

Nabatron 12-23-2011 01:25 PM

^yeah the customer service is fucking a discrace! I'm getting my pb back today and I'm 100% certain they didnt get rid of the dust underneath the screen for the second time...too long of a story to tell but yeah their service department is ran by monkeys...

You need to run it for a long time. That's why there's a free version and there's a paid version.

It could take hours to fix. The free version doesn't disable the auto standby. The paid version disable the auto standby option allow you to run the app for as long as it takes to fix.

Just take my word for it.

Nabatron 12-24-2011 12:18 AM

just got my pb back from "servicing" and guess what still fucking dust underneath the screen! doesn't even look like they changed a thing....shit is frustrating!

terkan 12-24-2011 12:43 AM

i dunno.. i find their customer service not too bad.. told them my original charger not working.. mailed me a rapid charger back via fedex within 5 days without even having to send in the normal one. so i have a rapid charger instead now :D

geeknerd 12-24-2011 11:24 AM

can anyone give me a brief 'update' on the playbook?
custom rom avail? android installable? problems? should i buy?

Ax2-Y 12-24-2011 03:53 PM

My review... i have been messing around with mine for a week now and i like it so far. As others have said, it is lacking in apps, but that is slowly changing (it just got angry birds). I am looking forward to OS 2.0 and the android store, but who knows when that will be released. WiFi, movies, music, and the kobo app will make time fly by when you're commuting, travelling, or just bored sitting on the couch. seeing as how a generic ereader with wifi is $150-200, i think getting a playbook at $200 is a steal.

I kinda wish I got a 32GB one now though, as movies have taken up a ton of my memory

To each their own would be my overall opinion. It really depends what you're looking for in a tablet.

I have both an Ipad 2 and a Playbook and you need to go into this purchase thinking that you're not getting an Ipad. The biggest complaint I hear people I know who have the Playbook is something like "fuck this thing sucks it's not as good as an ipad". Now maybe the Playbook was trying to compete with the Ipad or maybe not but you can't think like that imo.

For $200 for a 16gb it's a good deal for me. It's smaller than the ipad and when I just need to do some quick surfing or watch some videos etc it does it very well.

When I want to go nuts and go all app crazy and do something more than just some media and surfing that's where the Ipad comes in for me.

To answer your other questions though I'm not sure if there are roms, yes you can do the whole android thing with a lil work, no there are no problems other than people complaining that the power button is hard to press b/c it's not raised but that button is rarely used so to me it's not an issue. Should you buy? Only you can answer that question but like I said at $200 it's a good buy. Some people spend $200 on dinner plus drinks already so getting this ain't too bad in my books.

geeknerd 12-24-2011 05:04 PM

ncix just put their transformer 16gb for $269. Just gonna buy that :)

Vansterdam 12-24-2011 07:59 PM

so glad i returned my playbook lol no regrets
