lol I'll let you know. There's a small chance I might decide to keep it but we'll see.

So I'm liking two cases:

The Case-mate pop with kickstand:

and the Zenus prestige case cover

both freakin expensive

Be careful with these if you're gonna apply them. They are version/ROM specific.

Pay careful attention to the version ie. KE7/KG2/KG3 and deodexed or odexed.

Odexed = Compressed system files
Deodexed = Uncompressed system files

For those with Stock ROMS but rooted:

I dunno if the extra bulk the case adds is worth having the kickstand.
I have a casemate pop for my nexus s (sans kickstand) and it adds significant bulk. Its not overwhelming and it does protect the phone very well, but it does add some heft.

(Example, my phone came with KG2, so I downloaded KG2)

on xda there are 3 different ones with KG2:

CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_JP_XSG_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip

does it matter? which one did you download?

Armind 07-28-2011 05:19 PM

Shit, the unlock app doesnt work!!!!!!!!!

i used

CF-Root-SGS2_JP_XSG_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip

then

Villan Rom 2.1 signed

unlocked with "Galaxy_S_unlock" from Android Market

fsy82 07-28-2011 05:55 PM

someone needs to do a write up on RS on how to root and install the rom. That way everyone will stop asking on how to do it. Any volunteers?

I posted about this earlier. Triangle means you've modified the phone. It doesn't affect anything.

The GPS app is Bell's own app therefore it checks the carrier to see if it's Bell before it activates the license. Install a different GPS app and you'll be fine.

Armind 07-28-2011 07:35 PM

Is there a way to flash this phone as if it was factory unlocked without all the bell apps?

Also, how come the time of sms is diff? When i send my msgs it displays the proper time. but fir my friends msgs, it is 4 hours behind

Yes. You can use the unlock app to restore the settings.

Some carriers have issues with SMS timestamps. Install SMS Time fix from the market.

My mission to fine a case mate barely there was a failure.
Went to best buy AND futureshop in coquitlam, as well as wireless wave, nobody had them.

I found a case exactly the same as case mate's at virgin for a few dollars cheaper

Galaxy S2 Root/Unlock How To:

1) Download the following files:
Samsing KIES - What's new for Software & Manual SAMSUNG
Odin for Windows and CFRoot Kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1103399
To check what version you have: hit Menu / Settings / About phone / Baseband version

2) Install KIES
Unzip the 2 files in Odin
Unzip the 1 file in CF-Root-SGS2_XXXXXX.zip

3) Power off the phone.
Hold the following buttons down: Home and Volume Down. While holding these buttons down hold down the Power button too. So now that you're holding all 3 down the phone will turn on. When you see the Samsung GTi91000m you can release all the buttons. You should now be in Download mode with a big green Android.
http://localhostr.com/file/RCKvAM3/down%20sgs2.jpg

4) Plug in the phone.
Run Odin3 v1.85.exe
It should detect your phone in the first box under ID:Com and will highlight it yellow
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg
Make sure that Auto-Reboot is checked and F.reset time are the only ones checked
Click PDA and choose the tar file CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 you extracted in step 2
Click Start.
When it's done flashing your phone will reboot. Unplug.

5) Now you're rooted and back in Android. You'll need to connect using wifi and install the following app:
https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
Run this app. Click Step 1 then when it's ok click Step 2
Your phone should black screen and reboot. Give it a minute. After it reboots you're unlocked.
(Note: When all is working. Copy out the Galaxy_S_Unlock folder on the phone via USB and keep it in a safe place. This folder holds your encrypted IMEI/Mac Addresses/Etc.)

I'm doing this all from memory so hopefully I haven't missed anything.

FAQs:
1) Yellow Triangle: Means you're running custom kernel/rom. Doesn't affect anything. Can be removed but it's a lot of work for nothing.
2) Bell GPS navigation: Does not work if you aren't a Bell customer. This app checks to see if you're on the Bell network before it'll activate the license so use a different app like Navigon, Copilot, Sygic, etc.
3) The unlock app can be uninstalled when you're done. It's not needed afterwards.

That was way too baus.

hahaha

If I had the phone, I would definitely be giving you so much props for that.

nrg604 07-28-2011 10:35 PM

Yeah I've been using Android for awhile now so these things make sense for me but can be more daunting for new users.
