Is the LD version unlocked if not, what carrier is it set to?

*edit:
Just read that it is a Virgin phone.

Will it be difficult to unlock?

I can confirm Kingsway, Coquitlam Center, and Lougheed have atleast 1 instock as of 9:30 AM. Killer price for an outright purchase.

Kingsway & Wessex location had Galaxy S Fascinate on sale from $499.99 to $399.99. I was there at around 9:20am, Galaxy S II was sold out 'til next week.

Psykopathik 07-27-2011 09:36 AM

I just got this phone yesterday and was wondering what does rooting actually do to the phone? Does it make it run faster? make it so you can install other apps aside from the marketplace?

gdoh 07-27-2011 11:02 AM

Rooting (Android OS) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

JordanLee 07-27-2011 11:03 AM

Rooting allows you to gain Superuser access to the phone. You can flash cooked (modified) roms that undervolt or overclock the CPU to get more performance. Sometimes apps only work on rooted phones etc.

Picked up the last and only one at Marine and Byrne. Girl said 5 people called after I did at 9 asking to put it on hold as well.

No logos anywhere outside of the phone.

Can you guys report whether you experience the yellow screen tinge issue?
Also, is rooting + unlocking pretty simple to do? I've never rooted a droid phone

670 is 599 with taxes. That price hasn't changed for buying it outright. The $499 is some virgin deal but its month to month and doesn't state any other details on what other requirements there are.

Bell is still offering a $0 deal to get the Galaxy S2 :fullofwin:

are u noticing the yellow tinge in comparison with another phone? I hadn't noticed any yellow tinge on mine until I compared to my bro's ip4, I can kinda see where you're noticing the yellow, but i think its because the ip4 has a blue tinge and the whites on the gs2 just arent as bright..

SpuGen 07-27-2011 11:18 AM

Rooting is easy. Just check my earlier post with the link. And check mirkoft's reply for the unlock app after you root.

Read the instructions in the link. Took me like 5 mins to do the actual root and.unlock. I spent like 3 hours reading shit.cause I couldnt figure it out.

The bell verson doesnt have any branding on it whatsoever. It just comes.with bell apps.

I dont have my SGS2 yet, but its just an issue I read alot of GS2 users are having with the screen.

Apparently there's a yellow tint on the left edge of the screen thats caused by overheating?
I still havent been able to pinpoint whether its a hardware or software issue; I've read different things :(

with superuser access i believe you can. or you could just use a custom ROM

gdoh 07-27-2011 12:11 PM

Virgin Samsung Galaxy S II now $499.99 at London Drugs | MobileSyrup.com

wonder why they would do this??

Oleophobic 07-27-2011 12:13 PM

yep custom roms usually remove all the bloatware.

or you can just root the phone and use titanium backup to uninstall the Bell apps

joquio 07-27-2011 12:24 PM

Yooohooo.... found one at LD in delta. Will be picking it up after work tonight.
There were two in stock and the other one is already on hold for somebody else when I called.

So, what's new in the Android world?
Last Android phone I was using was Google Nexus One before switching to iPhone 4

Armind 07-27-2011 12:29 PM

^ You tell me, i'm planning to go from iPhone 4 to Android for the first time. T_T
