Hacking is not for the smrt. | [GNex TOOLKIT V5.5] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, CWM, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE [GSM] - xda-developers
GNex Toolkit installs drivers and does pretty much everything you need it to.
After you pop your flashing cherry, everything is a lot simpler. Updates are just one step (flash .zip from recovery) and new roms are just three (backup apps using Titanium Backup, wipe /data and /system, and then flash .zip from recovery). Troubleshooting is also as simple, pretty much everything can be fixed with a wipe and a reflash lol Quote:

Weird thing happened to me this morning. I plugged my phone into my Macbook last night to charge and then when I woke up, I had all the apps from my Transformer TF101 installed on my Galaxy Nexus. Even apps that aren't available for the phone. It even had SuperUser installed and I didnt root it at all.
I don't remember running any backup software on my Macbook nor do I know of one available. Is there anyways I can track this down to see how it happened? It's pretty cool but at the same time really strange lol. | Your Google account, if you're sharing it between devices, would automatically restore apps, data and settings if you chose to have one device backing up the info to your google account, and the other set to automatically restore data. I was on milestone 4 and one day it started lagging and my phone wouldn't wake when I press the power button so I flashed Slim ICS and it's been great. Feels faster and the size of the rom is only 69MB! When it installs it leaves out a lot of the bloatware as well:
Galaxy4
Launcher2
OpenWnn
PicoTTS
PinyinIME

Like Kang's ROM Control, Slim ICS has ASS (Advanced Slim Settings) which is EXACTLY the same thing and has pretty much the same settings. When I backed up/restored my settings from Kang to Slim ICS, all my Rom Control settings appeared after a reboot. I definitely recommend it. You'll need to download both the base zip and the maguro (galaxy nexus) zip then flash base first before maguro. [ROM][GSM][17-Mar] Slim ICS [2.9] - 69MB - Clean, Simple & Fast - The Google Way - xda-developers | Dat ASS. But B28 is actually quite smoother than M4, wasn't sure what caused the slowdown on M4 and it was quite noticeable, but after wipe and flashing B28 it's a lot more responsive. M4 also started bugging out on me (force closes during boot animation and quick torch would self-trigger and unable to turn off).
Didn't see enough of a difference in battery life to warrant using Slim ICS but it's great to see a light rom in development :) |
