I tried Android Revolution HD, very fast and slick.

Preferred something with features so I went with AOKP.

Currently running b28 ICS 4.03. Any recommendations on either franco.kernel or popcorn.kernel?

Both should work right?

!MiKrofT 04-19-2012 09:24 AM

You should really get 4.0.4 build. Feels smoother and has better battery life. At least in the android revolution version.

longtime iPhone user, new to this android stuff so I gotta ask...
what's the equivalent of jailbreaking for this thing ?

I understand what rooting is, but how does that allow me to download apps and games like Cydia and Installous did for me on the iPhone

thanks

Simplex123 04-19-2012 09:59 AM

You can already download games and apps even without rooting by googling "_____.apk". You just need to enable Unknown Sources in the security settings. Rooting just gives you more freedom when customizing your phone and allow certain apps that mess with settings that they normally restrict.

did they stop rolling out the 4.0.4 OTA due to the known signal dropping issue? I've cleared the data for the google service frameworks and I'm still not getting the OTA update...i'm on yakju 4.0.2 Build ICL53F

Armind 04-20-2012 07:58 PM

b33 is out anyone tested it yet?

Alatar 04-20-2012 08:19 PM

I'm still on 4.0.1 :okay:

bakasam 04-20-2012 08:34 PM

I'm waiting on Milestone 5. The beta builds seems to always be a little wonky for me :3

Jayare6O4 04-20-2012 09:03 PM

AOKP b32 + franco.kernel.

godly features + astounding battery life.

Simplex123 04-20-2012 09:08 PM

^how much screen on time are you getting?
Right now I am on liquidICS 1.25 + popcorn 10.1 I'm getting 4 hours screen on time

Armind 04-21-2012 06:26 PM

quick update, which radio everyone using right now?

!MiKrofT 04-21-2012 11:22 PM

Guys. There's a new build out from google that addresses radio drop issues in 4.0.4. I don't think it's available in the Canadian release yet but my phone has been getting the upgrade popup since its on yakju IMM76D. New one is IMM76I. ROM cookers should have an update shortly since its only a 708kb update.

I tried the Xperia S port the other day and it was very smooth. I liked the subtleness of the SE software and gave ICS a nice touch. Give it a try if you're interested. I think they're still working on the video camera though.

Phone fell out of my pocket and a 50lb dumbbell nearly fell right on it, what's a good thin case that can protect it from scratches but is also relatively cheap

twitchyzero 04-22-2012 01:45 PM

i dont think many thin case will protect your phone from a 50lb weight if it falls on your screen.

LookHere_Sucka 04-22-2012 03:48 PM

More like occasional drops, and from scratches, etc.

!MiKrofT 04-22-2012 05:21 PM

I use Ringke slim. Thinnest hard case out there.

Simplex123 04-22-2012 05:53 PM

^I have that as well but it gets so many scratches and the paint gets worn out and is slowly coming off at the corners. But it is a slim and looks nice when you first get it haha

Weird. I got mine last year and it's not even close to wearing out nor is it losing paint. Mind you I got the matte black one.

Simplex123 04-23-2012 12:14 AM

Yeah I got the silver one to match the phone. How does the matte one feel? Rubbery?

essel 04-23-2012 12:17 AM

I have the matte black one as well and it's still as new as when I first started using it 3 months ago. And yeah it's kinda rubbery.

!MiKrofT 04-23-2012 10:04 AM

Yeah it's a little rubbery. Sorta that soft touch rubber feeling. I quite like it.
