For those of you who aren't familiar with MIUI...I think it's a solid alternative to using pure Android. Here's a preview/overview video. It's known to be the most customizable ROM on Android.

It's actually pretty stable, I think the newest updated from Vicious has all the bugs and quirks figured out.

ICS helps a lot in terms of interface that customizations like this may not be necessary. It's basically doing the same thing Sense UI and Touchwiz are doing by skinning many aspects of the UI. I did try MIUI on my droid incredible briefly and it was kinda neat.

anyone having any trouble with keyboard press sounds? My keyboard and lock sounds are gone. I tried playing around in the settings already and rebooted the phone and uninstall and install programs, still doesnt work. Tried changing between go keyboard and android keyboard already.

The desktop to phone sync is awesome

Doesn't seem as fast as Dolphin HD. Will try it for a bit.

Chrome Beta on the tab 10.1 is fantastic

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but when I first got my SGN, I had that problem, and I ended up performing a factory reset to fix it.

Personally not a fan of MIUI..
but i gave it a shot on the NexusOne
didnt try on the NS

it reminded me too much of iPhone
but man those guys that coded MIUI... IMPRESSIVE

Attachment 10066

my replacement phone with stock OS
12% after 36 hours light to moderate use without any battery saving apps
everything off except data..low brightness (except when watching video @25%)
couple of calls, dozen texts, 3 hours video, 2 hour of browsing, 30 minute gaming

much better than my first battery so it seems like it can be very YMMV
just not sure how the battery seems to peak up a bit in the chart after watching videos

Not sure if repost but here's a tutorial on getting Google Music up and running

How-to: use Google Music from anywhere (yes, outside of the United States) -- Engadget

I don't think Nexus One or S would do MIUI justice. A big and high quality screen like SGS2 or GN will though. Like I said, my fav. part is that I can change everything from lock sceen, sounds, icons, fonts, with a touch of a button!

To me, that is a fair bit of use. 30 minute gaming usually gets any one of my phones pretty hot. 3 hours of video would easily kick off about 20% of battery. That being said, I think a big part of it has to do with how you tweak your settings. Knowing what to keep on and when to keep it off.

Booo chrome beta doesn't support flash. One of the main reasons I got an android phone.

Are all GN's sold in Canada pentaband HSPA? I see that Rogers/Fido are regular triband while Wind is triband AWS and only Bell/Mobilicity have petabands. I'm trying to get out of my Fido contract through Rogers to go get on Wind so it's important for me that I can use the Rogers GN on Wind.

unit 02-08-2012 11:54 AM

i didnt like how miui's default search button didnt go to google.
was there an easy fix for that?

My friend made the same comment recently and noticed that Rogers likes to exclude information on their site for tech specs. They do that with all 1700 band phones.

I have one bought from Rogers and can confirm that it works on Wind.

I bought the GN from Fido with fido dollars, then cancelled the contract. Finally used it today (shipped to my home in edmonton because that was the address on file and no phones were in stock in van) and can confirm that it will work on winds network.

I did however notice i couldnt send text messages... which i thought was really weird

maybe the text message gateway number isn't right? Not sure if you can still change this.

not really sure what was wrong. i could receive but couldnt send. but mms worked. i ended up just factory resetting and it all works now.

working on trying to root and everything now. i know its discussed many times in this thread but whats a good rom to run? im probably going to go with franco.kernel

also, any wind users have recommendation for radio?

!MiKrofT 02-09-2012 07:11 PM

If your phone is recent it should already have a recent radio on it so not much to worry about there. If you run franco kernel you'll need a rom based on 4.0.3 or newer I believe. Kang I hear is pretty good.

I'm on 4.0.2 so I'm still running Android Revolution HD.

Been on Kang for almost a month now. Love it. No problems whatsoever. Great battery life, great speeds and lots of tweaking. I like being able to change the colors of my navigation bar on the fly.

JordanLee 02-10-2012 12:05 AM

I agree^ Team Kang has built an amazing rom. The power saver mod turns off 3G/Wifi/whatever when you turn off the screen and its unreal how much battery that saves.
