what's the best 4.1.2 custom rom out there? I'm still on 4.1 Jelly Belly V3, I9250XXLF1 baseband, 3.0.31 franco kernel

I love the overall feel of jelly belly and how everything is setup but miss some of the customization options like pulldown toggle menu and option to add/delete pages

any recommendations for new roms that would match my kernel and baseband?

cm10 m2 is based on 4.1.2

Been on Codename Android for a couple weeks before.
Recently switched to Rasbean Jelly Rom and have been using it for a little more than a week.
WOW, didn't realized how sluggish Codename Android was until I used Rasbean Jelly.
Or maybe it's just Rasbean Jelly that's been super smooth.
Anyway, great Rom and paired with Trinity Kernel it's been super smooth and rock solid for me. Especially when you go to "recent apps" and swipe the apps to remove them from the list, it's like INSTANT!!
Only feature I'm missing is custom profiles.

I've been using Paranoid Android for over a month now. I keep it in phone UI mode and don't use most of the tablet features. I do like that you can shrink the DPI for whatever app you want though.

ROM is fast and gets all the latest updates to cm10 since they use that as its base. Paired with either Trinity or Franco and it's good.

I'm using PA too and I love it. I leave everything in Phablet mode; I like having Chrome, Youtube and the Play Store on phablet, plus it makes for a better use of the HD screen of the phone.

Also currently using Nova Launcher (worth the $4). Was using Trinity 'cause some PA users recommended it, but found it didn't quite have the same battery life or snappiness as Franco, so I went back to Franco (the night before they hit Milestone 6) and have never been happier.

As an aside, does anyone know which app controls the Google Now stuff? My Google Now shows up a bit messed since I've put it in Phablet mode, but I can't figure out which app to modify in the PA controls.

Just load up google now, then press the multitasker and long press the thumbnail for google now. There should be an option for Hybrid Properties.
Adjust the dpi/layout right there.

Graeme S 10-18-2012 12:46 PM

su-weeet.

Turns out that it defaults to the tablet-landscape mode if you set it to 720px, but it goes back to phone view if you knock it to 600. Didn't like having my tabs cut in half. Yay!

R5x 10-18-2012 12:52 PM

Yeah that's what I love about PA. Offers so much flexibility for what mode you want to run each individual app at. I've got the stock calendar app running in tablet UI at a lower dpi and it's way better than running it in phone UI.

Oh, two things.

Does anyone know if there's a tweak we can use in order to hide the notification/status bar at the top? I'm going for an as-clean-as-possible look with my phone (and since nova supports desktop gestures, I have a gesture ready that doesn't require me to slide from the top of the notification bar, so I'd like to hide it if I can.

Also, is there a widget that exists out there that shows all of my wireless statuses? Ideally something that would show my cell connectivity, wifi, and bluetooth so that I don't lose those along with my status bar.

You can hide the notification bar with Nova launcher

I followed these steps to unroot to stock jelly bean galaxy nexus gsm only
[Mac] Galaxy Nexus Toolkit [Root,Unroot,Unlock/Lock Bootloader,CWM] [Updated 10/9/12] - xda-developers
and "succeeded" but it still shows my kernel is cyanogen 3.0.38...does this mean i'm still rooted?

Graeme S 10-18-2012 05:05 PM

Request way to check if you're rooted? install ROM manager, and see if it works. It'll only work if you're rooted, so.

That's because all you did was unroot. You still need to flash the stock jelly bean firmware mentioned later in the post.

kevin7352 10-18-2012 06:31 PM

can't seem to find where it gives a download to flash

R5x 10-18-2012 06:55 PM

It's the second last hyperlink in that guide.

is PA really that good? I'm still super happy with liquid smooth but PA has always intrigued me a bit

If you enjoy all the customization that Liquid, AOKP, CNA, etc brings then you might find PA less appealing because it's essentially cm10 with tweaks for running different UI modes. Having said that, there's only one way to find out...

yea, that's the one i downloaded and used

joquio 10-18-2012 08:11 PM

I used PA for a while long back.
It was nice at first. I like high resolution screens (My monitor is 2560x1440) and liked the idea of using the nice 720p screen to its fullest but it got old quick.
Some buttons are too small for daily usage and changing the dpi of certain programs ie: facebook etc. made the fonts too small.
That's when I decided to upgrade to the stock Jelly Bean when it was first release.

!MiKrofT 10-18-2012 10:15 PM

^LOL. I'm actually trying to make my navbar smaller.

I'm using PA now... because they have a good 4.1.2 base. Once AOKP or LiquidSmooth have those I might switch. I find the amount of tweaks pretty similar on PA vs other ROMs. I had AOKP on my tablet and it was more or less similar.

Thanks CRS! :alonehappy:

I rooted my phone to get JB early and now its out for OTA and I keep getting this annoying message like every 30 minutes to update my phone to 4.1.2. Is there any way to get rid of this aside from updating? I'm pretty sure I'd have to re-root and all that crap if I did. Anyone else having this problem?

4.1.2 is the next release of JB. Why wouldn't you want it? It should only notify you if the version on the OTA is newer than what you have. If you loaded a custom JB rom you shouldn't get any update messages. If you flashed a stock JB rom then it should keep updating as Google releases updates.

Provided he didn't load CWM or anything else that would result in him going into bootloops like that other guy.
