Yup. Woke up this morning and the phone told me that a "system update was available for download/install". (there was WiFi connectivity at home and the phone is setup to use it automatically). I think the whole package was only around 180MB?

Maliuz 09-14-2012 03:10 PM

I get an error when I try to update to 4.1. Anyone know what might be causing this?

hongy 09-14-2012 05:42 PM

Yes I've always done a clean wipe before installing any roms, and :fuckthatshit: just tried to change the softkeys on phone, and then they disappeared. Now phone is bootlooping and I can't even connect it to computer to put in a new copy of bigxie in case changing the softkeys fucked with the original file.

Oh for fuck's sakes I can't even use google nexus toolkit on the damn thing either. Anyone here can fix I buy you beer

That's why I like the safety of a stock device.

:fuckthatshit: I was doing everything to put it back into stock.

from what your explaination is... it SOUNDS like something i went through before. had to immediately get into the bootloader menu when you try to start your phone

1.) battery pull to ensure its completely off
2.) hold both up and down vol buttons and power on (hold power button down as well)
3.) that SHOULD get you to the bootloader[(?) sorry i dont remember the proper term]
4.) run the toolkit from there to attempt the fix

i did that to fix my phone from the infinite bootloop problem that some phones come across (this was on a 3 day old gnex that was properly flashed and running a rom just fine)

try that out, see how it goes and report back?

Attempting to reinstall the divers and see if my computer will detect it then. At the moment the toolkit doesn't even detect a phone.

I think fastboot is the term you're looking for

My offer still stands, anyone that can do this for me tomorrow will get money for beer since I can't buy it yet. I'm tired and have been at it for far too long. I've already installed the asmsung usb drivers, and still I can't use fastboot or the galaxy nexus toolkit.

I've since completely re-wiped everything again through CWM, and now it doesn't even go to the boot animation. It just stays at the google with the unlocked lock for 25mins+.

R5x 09-15-2012 06:57 AM

So can you get into fastboot or not? You seemed to have been able to get into cwm earlier so it should have been easy at that point.

Does it stay at Google logo now even if you hold vol +/- and power as suggested earlier?
If you can get to fastboot then just download stock image from Google and use fastboot commands and return to stock. This phone is pretty much unbrickable as long as you can get into fastboot.

hongy 09-15-2012 11:03 AM

Okay so I finally got it back to stock, just need to reroot, etc. The thing that was causing me difficulty was that my phone was undetectable on desktop. Using both samsung drivers+universal naked drivers, the driver installation process would never finish.

Finally I decided to give odin a try, and bam just like that the drivers installed automatically and my phone was now detectable. It wasn't detecting it as a external drive, so unfortunately I couldn't just push bigxie onto it and have it install through CWM.

I then used galaxy nexus toolkit, and just reflashed the stock 4.1.1 image. The only downsides is that now the drivers no longer work on pc again, and that at 3 in the morning I completely forgot about root access, etc and started transferring files back onto my phone.

impulseX 09-15-2012 12:13 PM

the phone is working properly now tho?

hongy 09-15-2012 12:14 PM

Yeah it's working properly now.

does anyone know how to change which email account to send from? I have a default one set for my personal stuff, but when I browse craigslist I want to send email from another account.

But when I use the CL app and click reply on one of the ads, it automatically chooses to send from my personal one and I cant figure out how to change to my other account. Thx

Simplex123 09-23-2012 01:21 AM

I think you can clear defaults. But that would mean that every time you click a link to send an email you would have to choose between the two

twitchyzero 09-23-2012 07:38 PM

had my phone for so many months now and I'm just learning about MHL...I never knew mirroring/projecting mobile devices were possible without mini-HDMI

G-spec 09-23-2012 07:53 PM

why the FUCK am I still seeing like a dozen programs running in the background when I CLEARLY put no background processes in the developer options !!!!!!!

when i had an iphone i used that thing as a toy, played games, had a bunch of apps, surfed net etc..... but with the nexus i told myself i will keep it strictly and use as a phone, thinkin keep it lean and mean... i got no games on it, i got no apps aside from juice defender and easy task killer.... yet still it's a piece of shit, half the time voice doesn't work, half the time maps can't locate my location, basically half the time the shit i'm really trying to use malfunctions

im done with google and android shit, hate apple, but i'm going back to iphone it'd more stable and reliable

Shorn 09-23-2012 08:03 PM

anyone having trouble with car chargers?

my phone charges great at home with the wall plug but it refuses to charge in my car. i bought the car charger new at fido and it worked for the first week, then started not charging. i am not sure if it coincides with rooting of my phone (i'm running jb 4.1.1 and franco kernel). i'm thinking its the charger.. but just wondering if anyone had this happen before?

hongy 09-23-2012 08:03 PM

What rom are you on? I found that with stock everything works perfectly for me. Gps lock on takes less then 10 seconds, phone calls go through nice and clear, etc.

Are you seeing them in the background, or in your recent app settings?

Juice defender and task killers are useless. Google manages that stuff automatically and killing tasks drains more battery. You'd think that if the phone was garbage there'd be 80 pages of people hating on the phone. It really depends what processes you're referring to. Some of those are needed for the phone to run.. I have no voice or GPS issues as it locks in within seconds.

Not sure why you would want to remove background processes. The OS depends on a lot of services to run in the background. This thing isn't an iphone. You don't purposely kill background processes with Android to free up memory.

The Galaxy Nexus is by far the best phone I've used. I had more problems with my iPhone 3gs and its constant memory leaks and slowdowns.

most likely the car charger. the one i have, i've had for well over a year now and it still charges just fine. nexus for 7 months, no issues with charging in car. running bigxie 4.1.1 and franco

G-spec 09-24-2012 09:37 AM

it's not necessary processes, it's just useless stuff that continues to run in the background until I kill it manually or by automatic optimization... I always keep the no background processes in developer mode options, but almost every time I go see whats running it's stuff like google play store, google+, contacts, etc....
I shut off all that auto sync stuff of as well, since i dont use google+ nor gmail....

The only reason it bugs me is because I've taken all the steps to keep everything minimal, and still it's unresponsive and doesn't work often the way it should, and the biggest problem I have is because my battery life is bad, by the end of the day just from texting and a few calls, I get about 20% battery life left...

also I notice that my screen is absolutely devouring the battery usage, no matter what setting I use, whether it's 25% brightness or automatic, it always accounts up to anywhere between 50% and 80% of battery usage.... yesterday for example believe it or not, I had it set at 50% brightness all day and when I got home, had like 30+% battery left and display showed it ate up 90% of my battery... and that was one of the good days when the background processes didn't eat up that much

I don't know, this is my first android maybe i'm judging it too harshly, and maybe I need to root it, but all I do know is on my old iphone 4 I could play games, use apps, surf the web do all that on a daily basis and I'd still have plenty of battery life left when I get home... and things worked more often the way they should when comparing it to the android.....
it's common accepted knowledge that android has noticeably worse battery life than ios correct ? that's what my google fanboy best friend told me when he was converting me to android
