went through several ROMs, codename android HD, slim ICS/JB, minco, liquid AOSP, and now back to AOKP.

personally find it the best balance between battery life and customization.

never had experiences of FC's and random restarts. New jb build 3 is great , still got that project butter smoothness with all the cherrypicked goodness.

Tempting. I'll wait for a milestone release though.

Dumb question -- how do I set the phone into vibrate only mode now that I am using JB?

Prior to the upgrade, I can go to Settings | Sound and then there is a check box to select the vibrate only mode. It's still a 3 step process and nothing like the physical flip switch on the iPhone, but it is still a heck of a lot better than not having that option now that I'm using JB. It almost seems the option just disappeared under JB.

The only workaround I've found so far is to keep pressing the volume minus button. But I always set my ringer to max volume, so it is a pain in the a$$ to keep doing this volume up/down thing 10x over the course of a day. :failed:

Long press the power button and the option is at the bottom of the menu.

Oh you're a lifesaver! RS to the rescue!

Shows you how often I turn off my phone... :fullofwin:

3 Attachment(s)
Jelly Bean stock rom..rooted
NFC on, GPS on, auto-brightness screen
juice defender on balanced profile
standard battery 9 months usage
sorry ss not resized

somewhat of a typical day...mostly browsing and facebook...some texting...maybe a call or two...occasionally games/videos = just barely gets me through the day with around 3 hour screen time

i was surprised to see phone idle/os/cell standby pretty high up...i used the browser moderately today.

anyways I'm curious why between hours 10-12 when screen was off but phone was awake..although CPU spy stats looks okay. What does the green/yellow/red bars under mean mobile signal mean? Sometimes its empty when the screen is on...sometimes it's all green (assuming taking in frequencies) when it's off. I can only think of dropbox using that bandwidth during screen off time.

R5x 09-27-2012 10:10 PM

I think the green, yellow, red bars indicate how strong the reception you're getting is. If it's a solid green bar you are getting full reception. If there are gaps here and there then your reception is cutting in and out.

green yellow red bars mean the strength of your signal. so green being full, yellow being maybe 2/4 bars, and red being 0-1/4 bars of signal and being completely blank means you had been disconnected briefly?

as for phone being awake, yet screen being off. it's as simple as you getting notifications (texts, fb alerts, instagram, emails, whatever you have) and also, could be widgets updating (fb widget, emails, weather, sports, anything of that sort)

R5x 09-28-2012 08:08 AM

If using Google Now, it could also be its location service wake locking the phone since it's trying to update your location frequently.

Anyone tried codename android or snap black? I feel like switching roms a little bit

I do hear Location Services is a drainer...any way to have it turned off when phone is sleeping?

I was on MinCo Rom for quite a while and it's basically like stock but faster and rock solid.
Just switched to Codename Android and love it so far.
Ton's of customization which I really like (Stock functions bored me after a while).
Has build in customizable Profiles which I really need.
Give it a try. It's not sluggish at all and battery life has been pretty good for me too.

Have you noticed any bugs at all? I really hate downloading an awesome rom and having it be bug infested

What kinds of customization? I like the resizability of PA...but I'm not totally sold on it if there's something else I can get that's better.

From what I read it seems like you can customize almost everything.
Nav bar, status bar, lock screen shortcuts, lock screen options and the list goes on. The only problem i found with roms like that is they always have bugs of some sort. It's never perfect

joquio 09-28-2012 09:50 PM

I don't think any rom is perfect.
I didn't get any force close or anything not working properly since I started 3 days ago.
Yeah you can customize almost anything. All the things !Yaminashi mentioned plus custom profiles and also notification light.
Also, gives you the option of pop-up sms with quick reply function.
There are probably more things and you are better of reading through the Feauture List: [ROM] Codename Android 3.6.0 [JellyBean] [09/22/12] - xda-developers

!Yaminashi 09-28-2012 11:44 PM

that's true no rom is perfect but the one that I have now is damn near close.
Everything works as it should. When I was running liquid smooth on my s2 it had a few small features that didn't work properly.

What sort of notification light mods can you do?

CNA is a very customizable rom. I tried it for a day and although I liked it, I had to go back to Paranoid Android.

The problem with CNA (and EVERY other rom i've tried regardless if it's cm10-based or aosp based or stock based) is that it has the damn input/sensitivity lag problem inherent in jellybean roms.

It's usually triggered by using the Recent apps/Multitask button and is especially noticeable if you use whatsapp and then swap out to messaging/gtalk or any other app that uses the keyboard. The screen begins to start missing keypresses and you have to press harder/slower on the keys to get them to register. It's very noticeable if you are a fast typer. The difference in sensitivity is actually quantifiable with an app that can show you the input time for the touchscreen before and after the bug is activated. The only way to correct it is to turn off the screen and turn it back on.

Huge thread on xda about it: [BUG] Screen Sensitivity Issue-Lag (4.0.4-4.1.x) - Page 12 - xda-developers

So far in that thread, we've narrowed it down to Paranoid Android being the ONLY rom that is unaffected by the bug. I've tried PA 2.13, 2.14, 2.15 and now 2.16 and it's still unaffected. What's weird is that PA is based on cm10 but through some of their modifications they fixed the issue.

Anyone else notice this bug at all?

This is actually the first I've ever heard of the issue. I tested it to see if I notice any lag at all by going to whatsapp, typing out a message then using the recents button to go to messaging and typing out another message. My messages typed out fine and I made a point of typing faster than normal.

I didnt go extreme and actually measure the keypress timings, but it didnt have any effect on my typing from what I can see.

R5x 09-29-2012 06:32 AM

It's kind of interesting because some ppl don't seem to notice it or don't seem to be affected to a degree that bothers them or that they would notice. I know both me and my gf notice it on our phones.

The problem also occurs the more times you use the multitasking button and continue switching. It seems to eventually happen if you use the phone long enough without turning off the screen. For me, I can get the bug to appear after swapping out two or three times into and out of whatsapp after typing and sending a few messages. It seems whatsapp can activate the bug for me quite reliably and probably has to do with the fact that the app is so laggy anyways.

Regardless PA fixes it for me. I've noticed the problem as far back as bigxie and the original leaked developer jb rom from Google i/o.
