I use google voice using free phone line
I register it back in the day when google allows you to register using 403 area code
Now I can send and receive text , but no voice.

To make voice call I have to use a third party app called groove IP from google play

hongy 08-12-2012 04:14 PM

What JB roms are you guys running? I've been on stock since I got the phone, but getting bored.

!Yaminashi 08-12-2012 04:28 PM

Mine WAS called black jelly bean, but it switched over to AOKP so now its called Black AOKP or something.

My version is pretty stock but everything works as it should with zero bugs

Preemo 08-12-2012 04:54 PM

Stock ROM running Franco Kernel.

Or CM.

!MiKrofT 08-12-2012 04:58 PM

+1. I'm using Bigxie stock OTA 4.1.1 with Franco 230. It's perfect. Good alternatives I may try once they're less buggy would be SlimBean, AOKP, or LiquidSmooth.

hongy 08-12-2012 05:36 PM

hey mikroft, do you find your phone gets much warmer with Franco? Before I installed his kernel my phone would get warm while playing a game, asphalt 7,but nothing too uncomfortable. Now while browsing, or listening to music my phone would get warm, and whole playing a game it would become to hot to touch.

!MiKrofT 08-12-2012 08:20 PM

Hmm I haven't really noticed. But yes it does get warm. Dunno if it always did that or just after franco.

Graeme S 08-13-2012 02:24 AM

I'm on franco 217, where are you getting the updated ones?

Also: my phone hasn't really changed before and after franco as far as heat goes.

From Franco's thread on XDA? Isn't that were you got yours?

JACKED 08-15-2012 06:08 PM

I probably sound like an idiot but how do you update to jellybean? I went to settings > check for updates and im at android 4.0.2 and there's no updates

I just kept going back to the fileserve directory, but that stopped updating at 223 (which had issues with my phone).

Ahh. He's up to build 241 for JB now. It's nearing milestone release:

[KERNEL][GPL][5 JUN - #Milestone 4][r200-ICS r241-JB] franco.Kernel | 4.0/4.1 | - xda-developers

no but I'm going to try and root it as soon as it charges to 100%. I don't really know what I'm doing so hopefully it doesn't brick or something lol

Use the GNex Toolkit, it's really easy. It guides you through the whole process.

JACKED 08-15-2012 11:56 PM

yay got jellybean installed :).

used a few different sources but had trouble with getting the jb flash installed. ended up having to restart and used that gnex toolkit. I'd be lying if I said I wasnt shitting my pants the whole time... I think the whole bricking thing is probably blown out of proportion though

Graeme S 08-16-2012 12:10 AM

Bricking is always a huge fear. When I was doing everything (despite it not being my first time), both for using the toolkit and for upgrading to JB, my sphincter was clenched at factor 11.

That'll never really go away. Our phones these days are just as-if not more important than- our computers...so as a result, they're seriously panic inducing. But it's all good. No more freakouts 'til next year.

Eclypz 08-16-2012 10:51 AM

Its actually quite difficult to "brick" your device. Especially when we have stock recovery images from Google.

Things get blown out of proportion because every time something doesn't work, all the noobs cry "I bricked my device" all over the forums. In reality, they're probably just stuck in a boot loop, but the term "brick" is the first thing that comes to their mind.

This is why these "toolkits" are a 2 edged sword. On one hand, it makes things really easy for beginners, which is great for the community. Yet on the other hand, people have no idea what they're doing.

I'll give you an example. Noob wants to flash a mod that requires a custom recovery and a DEODEXED ROM. A noob that used a toolkit has no idea if they have a custom recovery or what ROM they installed. This makes troubleshooting very difficult...especially for the developers that don't know if something is wrong with their mod/app/rom, or if it's just a noob that doesn't know what they're doing.

J____ 08-17-2012 04:20 AM

i bricked my vibrant lol. updated to ICS then found out it didn't support asian languages, then made the mistake of going backwards in phone. Bricked =( but it made me get a nexus :)

Yes and I'm experience ng lag while typing with swift key, and the phone has rebooted itself once or twice. Also it's not as smooth as bixie jb ota rom.

hi guys, i need your help, i bought a used nexus with jellybean yesterday, i couldn't disable the screenlock,When I go to Settings->Security->Screenlock, it asks for my PIN, and then I am given the standard screen to "Select screen lock".

The options are as follows:

None (Grayed out)
Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage.

Slide (Grayed out)
Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage.

Face Unlock
Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage.

Pattern (Grayed out)

PIN

Password

i did master reset and hard reset still no luck (after reboot the phone, the pin code and all my data still there even the wifi setting), i chose wipe data/factory reset, error mounting/data and error mounting/sdcard/.android_secure occurs, i guess these 2 errors made the problem, what do u guys think? thanks

Those options were blanked out for me when I used to sync my work Exchange account with my device. You can't change those things if the network admin has those security measures set up.

...so either you have Exchange set up, or the previous owner had that set up.

I recall that also you get those errors after wipe if you have a custom rom (with you doing the wipe through the Settings menu).
