I'd still take the Gnex over whatever Apple can come up with. Otherwise I'd go for the S3 and look into the One S.

i don't wanna get any old phones since we're so close to the release of the next apple/google phones. i just don't want them to be released far apart because i don;t think i can wait long enough to see what each one has before deciding.

They'll always be released as far apart as possible so that each has an opportunity to dominate/be exclusive/be new for as long as possible before facing competition. It's always "just a little longer" 'til something comes out; it's just a question of when you decide to put down money.

sorry I should rephrase "release date" to "unveil date"

iPhone 4S was unveiled on October 4 and Galaxy Nexus was unveiled on October 14.

As long as one phone is unveiled before the release date of the other, I'll be happy :)

Graeme S 08-07-2012 11:40 PM

Rumors say iPhone available before October, so you'll be fine.

Ya i know, sept 12 was the rumor. But nothing on the Nexus? I hope it's not nov/dec

Watch Danhibiki pay big money for the iphone 5, then the next nexus release will be epic.
Then Danhibiki:

Just saiyan

lol! that's what i fear and that's why i hope they unveil their new phones close together so I can compare.

Do you think the new Nexus will come with a new OS version or is it too soon?

Hard to say, but regardless it will be the first to get whatever google comes out with next. Thats why I say wait for the next nexus instead of the iphone 5.
Besides, Apple will just take some feature thats been around for years on android and claim its revolutionary. To me, going with Apple is like stepping back into 2 years ago :p

Probably nothing too revolutionary in terms of OS. I haven't heard any rumours of the next version of Android OS yet so might be too early to tell. It won't be the same time as iPhone 5 and almost guaranteed to be afterwards.

This. Jesus. The worst part is that all these Apple fanboys actually eat it up.

sonick 08-08-2012 10:01 AM

Apple fanboys will poop themselves if/when iOS ever supports homescreen widgets.

I would have stayed with the Nexus if it wasn't for one deal breaker for me. I find the iOS notification system much better than Stock Android (ya I mentioned this before already lol).

But since tablets don't matter for notifications as much I would get an google tablet over an ipad.

If notifications are a dealbreaker, you'll want to stick with the iphone; i very much doubt android notifications will be getting more iOS-like.

!Yaminashi 08-08-2012 01:28 PM

Since I've never used an iPhone can someone explain how iOS notifications are better than android? Is it how messages are displayed?

!MiKrofT 08-08-2012 01:43 PM

On iOS the notifications are displayed in full. IE you'll have one notification for every email text twitter update etc. that you have allowed it to. I find it too cluttery for my taste but DanHibiki likes it that way I guess.

^now imagine those "missed calls" are whatsapp messages. you would get a preview of every message sent. this is on your lockscreen as well. you can quickly scrolls through all your messages without opening the app. Where as with Android, all you get is "25 new messages". Kinda defeats the purpose of showing previews doesn't it?

Every morning as soon as I wake up I grab my phone and scroll through all the messages on my lockscreen. With Android I would have to open most of the apps to see them.

And look how much more is shown in the previews for iOS

And I know that Jellybean has the two-finger pulldown thing now but that seems to only work with some stock google apps at the moment. How will it work with you have 10 notifications in whatsapp??

Anyways that's just me really. A friend of mine was on the same boat thinking about switching to Android after he fell in love with his Asus Transformer but agrees with me about the notifications.
I don't need it to tell me how many messages I got, I need it to show me what the messages are.

!MiKrofT 08-08-2012 03:25 PM

^Yup. I know how all that works. I have an iPhone 4S as my work phone. The thing is not everyone; especially not me is going to want to see a massive list of notifications. The purpose of notifications is simply to notify you. If I have 10 notifications in whatsapp I'll go and open the app. I'd much rather use the actual app.

DanHibiki 08-08-2012 04:33 PM

^ya it'd be nice if apple gave the option to collapse them all too but it's not a huge deal to me.

i like to see a preview and if it's not important i clear those notifications and leave the important ones only.

Still not supported in Canada I believe.

essel 08-09-2012 01:57 PM

Two days ago my Nexus's screen began to turn on and off by itself randomly, even when it's just on the table without anyone touching it. I went to to sleep with 99% battery and woke up 6 hours later and it was 41% battery from the screen being constantly on. Anyone else having this problem?
The phone is unrooted and everything is stock.

Ikkaku 08-09-2012 02:03 PM

lol following the whole 299 @ mobilicity thing on rfd

people are getting charged deposits, some people require 1 month sub, some require 2, and now some guy is saying they're changing it to minimum 3 months pre-authorized payments

let's see how long until this thing freakin explodes and they remove the special price tag
