New Galaxy Nexus?? What makes you think there will be another one coming out?

Tim Budong 09-10-2012 05:39 PM

What if LG names their rumored nexus phone. Optimus Nexus

!MiKrofT 09-10-2012 07:24 PM

There's a bunch coming supposedly but probably won't be called galaxy Nexus.

RIP Galaxy Nexus (Aug 31-Sept 9)

Alatar 09-10-2012 09:52 PM

How'd you manage to do that?

kevin7352 09-10-2012 10:11 PM

friend dropped a dumbbell on it >.> the one day i bring my phone around the gym because i had to deal with some gf problems fuuuuu.
what do you guys recommend me do? i purchased it relatively cheap for $300 and it was pretty mint. my friend was hesitant but said he'd pay whatever i wanted him to pay.
i know he doesnt really have a job so it'd be a bit harder for him so i posted it up on craigslist and got 2 offers for $100 so far. if i sold it for $100 i'd only need my friend to pay $200 to make it up. however even if i do get all $300 back, i dont think i'd be able to find another one for this much in as good condition. also i don't want to repair it because 1) i dont want to have third party parts in my phone and 2) i dont know what else has gone wrong.

this is what someone wrote to me in response to my ad. he offered $100 and i replied saying $150 (not knowing how much it'd be worth)

"Most probably outer protective glass is cracked.
If it powers on and screen is still black - then digitizer is also cracked.
Motherboard is still good.

Since protective glass and digitizer are glued together - so it's one part.
You can get a new LCD display for $160 from ebay.
This is part only, plus labour to replace it.

Taking into account a brand new Galaxy nexus is right now on sale at
Mobilicity for $350.
And a working used one is around $300 on craigslist.

So for me it doesn't make any sence pay you $150 for the phone plus
$160 for a new display.
$150+160=310 (plus labour and time spent to replace)

I can give you $100 max."

!MiKrofT 09-10-2012 10:27 PM

That guy appears to know his stuff. It's true that the glass and digitizer are fused together. However good luck on him finding a used one for $300. Most are mid to high 300 on the low end. Also most mobilicity stores won't have stock. But considering the labour and cost of replacing the parts I think his $100 offer isn't that far off. Labour he's probably gonna swap himself so it's just time .

kevin7352 09-10-2012 10:30 PM

i have one concern though. i still have all my information on the phone and without the display, i cannot wipe it. so should i just trust that he will do the wiping for me when he gets it fixed and wont hack my info?

kevin7352 09-11-2012 11:44 AM

bump! need help because i'm selling it really soon

Graeme S 09-11-2012 01:59 PM

Without a functioning screen, there's no way to wipe the data nor is there any way to be sure he'll do it when he buys it. Best bet? Fix & sell.

adb

kevin7352 09-11-2012 02:13 PM

after telling him that i have personal data that i need wiped before selling to him he replies:
"We can make bootloader locking-unlocking procedure.
That will wipe out all the stuff and bring the phone to factory
default condition.
I can bring a laptop with Samsung drivers and show how to wipe."

@darthchilli: what's adb mean? :s

and also how much do you guys think ill be looking at to fix this?

!MiKrofT 09-11-2012 02:32 PM

ADB is the command line interface to android phones. He can ADB into the phone. Unlock the bootloader with the "fastboot oem unlock" command and then use the volume and power keys to accept the unlock which will then trigger a device wipe and then re-lock it afterwards.

The screen/digitizer is going to be the most expensive part which will be over $100 easily. The labour I'm not sure how much it would cost.

Just follow the first steps of the guide in unlocking your bootloader if you want to do this yourself:

kevin7352 09-11-2012 03:01 PM

it sounds like that's the procedure he's going to do so i will just leave it to him. thanks for the advice guys. i think i'm gong to just sell it to him even though i know it's not the best option, and ask my friend to pay the difference. just need to get it over with so i can focus on school.

Anyone having this issue? So before I couldn't use gallery app so I just ended up using quick pic. However now I can't use dropbox, solid explorer, airdroid, anything when it comes to opening photos. It'll all just fc. Luckily I was able to use solid explorer and FTP to transfer photos to computer but in the end it after completely wiping out the sd card on my gnex it's still doing the same thing. Dropbox still closes itself after 10seconds.

I'm running bigxie's ota rom, but I've had this issue throughout several roms.

Just got my Galaxy Nexus updated with JB (v4.1.1) from Samsung. The phone has not been rooted so this is an official Android OS update. Prior to the OS update, I already knew JB was faster than ICS. But still, I'm rather surprised to see that the speed up was very noticeable.

kevin7352 09-14-2012 10:14 AM

did you just ask them to do it for you? i'm assuming the metro store?

!MiKrofT 09-14-2012 10:32 AM

It's OTA. It'll download directly onto your phone. I believe you need to be on Wifi to get the update.
