Thats wierd My gnex holds a pretty good charge. Maybe you got a shitty battery. Go get a replacement on ebay. They are dirt cheap. Posted via RS Mobile |

with the battery consumption, remember that it is a huge screen, so it'll take more battery power to light it up. the background processes, considering that the ones you listed are all google applications, and this being a GOOGLE phone, i think that there's really nothing you can do about that. also, as mentioned above, task-killers aren't as useful as you think. I remember reading somewhere that they actually drain battery just a little faster because of the fact that its force closing apps that need to be on, so the apps turn on again, and the task-killer closes it, turns on... you get the idea. because of the nature of android, battery life will not be better than iphones. can't win at everything. but, to sum it up, try rooting, flashing roms and kernels, and i'm sure you'll notice a difference. it takes 4 hours of constant usage to kill my battery from 99% down to 25% (streaming music the whole time, screen brightness at 100%, fb, instagram, twitter and texting) |

Yup, Iphone has better battery life. Androids have big ass screens that eats battery. Good thing you dont have a Note. |
Did you update to Jellybean yet? The UI is MUCH smoother vs ICS. What apps are you using that are not responding well? As far as battery usage goes, the screen will ALWAYS be the biggest hog of the battery when you look at the breakdown. Keep in mind the % in the battery usage graph/screen are all relative to other processes the phone is running. It's not unusual to have something like 60% of the battery be taken up by the screen because it IS quite large and running at 720. As far as setting it at 50% brightness, why not use auto brightness? I find it works quite well and avoids using as much battery unnecessarily. For normal usage, the Nexus lasts me a day easily. I get around 16-18 hours of idle time and about 2-2.5 hours screen on time and it's at maybe 30% when i plug in at night. The Nexus is not exactly a great battery performer but one day of usage is easily do-able for most people using it. edit: You also might want to look into an app called "betterbatterystats" that can show you what your phone is doing when the screen is off. There could be apps that are 'wake-locking' (ie. keeping the phone awake while screen is off) which is eating up your battery. A lot of rogue apps (eg. facebook) keep doing shit in the background if you're not careful since Android is a multitasking OS. |
yea this is actually a new battery, the first one I had replaced.... I'll look into rooting and all this other stuff you guys mentioned, will get my google fanboy friend to help me with it when he comes over next weekend, thanks for advice and info guys.... Hopefully I can try and manage this a bit better before I decide whether going back to iphone is worth all the extra hassle since I'm on Wind right now they don't have iphones, and I REALLY don't wanna go back to any of the big 3 carriers because of their rip off plans i will give this thing a big thumbs up on toughness btw, much better than iphone, dropped it numerous times, barely any dents on the casing, and almost no scratches on screen... also dropped it in water last week completely soaking it, turned it off for a day till it dried off, turned it back on... works like new |
yes, it's commonly known that android has worse battery life than ios, simply because it can run more processes on a higher resolution / more powerful screen. with that said, once rooted and on a custom ROM, the phone is unbelievable. I consistently use my phone throughout my phone and after 14 hours I'll still have 40-50% remaining on my battery. Custom ROMS (free of bloatware, tweaked and optimized, adjusted sensor light levels, mhz etc) really make the difference, guaranteed a new ROM will change your mind on android and its potential. I'd suggest getting CPUspy, it monitors how often your phone is in the different tiers of cpu usage, but most importantly, how often it's in "deep sleep". https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...k.cpuspy&hl=en for reference, mine is approx 90% + in DEEP SLEEP mode. edit: My top 3 ROM suggestions best battery life + "cleanest" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1790532 best customization + tablet mode - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1619582 median between the two (currently using it) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1402341 |
With stock ota rom, I get around 12 hours with regular use. With bigxie 4.1.1+franco, I get around 14 hours on regular use. |
Dont have a nexus, but my custom rom on SGS2 can idle with wifi on for around 1% for 2 ~ 2 half hours. You most likely have an app that is draining you're battery.. Maybe screenshot your battery discharge and maybe someone would find the issue? Some app keeping the phone from sleeping? cell standby drain? |
I usually get around 17-20hours depending on usage. Depending on your usage the stock nexus JB 4.1.1 ROM should do pretty good on battery life too. For reference here's my CPUspy: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8070499/Scre...4-12-16-13.png |
so any news whats the name for the next Nexus? |

i forgot to mention it, but others have, download cpuspy, and see if your phone is even giong into deep idle. that saves a lot of battery power. also, the rooting, is pretty straight forward. xda has a huge support database for this phone, and theres a lot of youtube videos on how to root and flash roms. theres even a program on xda that is basically a 1-click setup to root your nexus. be patient, and you'll love this phone. when i first got it, i went from the nexus s, to the galaxy nexus, and was quite upset at first because the nexus s felt the same, and last much much longer. now the galaxy nexus has come a long way (imo) and was definitely worth getting |

Got one of those metal battery covers..NFC doesn't work through it. Ordered the wrong colour, was gonna get it colour matched but got black instead.. http://i.imgur.com/dMsE9.jpg |
To get s3 or wait for the next GN. :fuuuuu: |
I for one will be waiting for the next Nexus. |
i get 3 hours of screen time on stock JB rom (auto-brightness & NFC on) it literally died 9 hours of moderate some heavy usage the funny thing is watching videos seems to kill less battery than browsing anytime this screen uses WHITE background the battery drains fast...if your app has settings check if you can use black backgrounds instead. I will try cpuspy or betterbatterystats |

Although, if the rumors for the next Samsung Nexus are true, you might want to just stick with the current Galaxy Nexus. Doesn't look like much improvement except slightly faster cpu and slightly better camera. The rumor of the 5" HTC Nexus on the other hand is a lot more interesting... |
Gspec your screen is supposed to use up most of the battery. At least your cell standby, Android OS or android system isn't hogging the battery. That will be a problem. Plus you just need the phone to get by one full day right? If you're always away from a charger then you will need to buy a second battery. I can vouch for the ankor brand on ebay/amazon. They do just as well if not better than the original and are extremely cheap online. |

I thought the next Nexus will actually be 'NexusS' as in more than one The LG version looks mighty tempting you can always bet on LG to give you killer specs |
Quite a few rumors about how many next Nexus devices there will be. I hope it's not LG though. I've sworn off that stupid company's cell phones after the disaster with the LG Optimus 2X. |

ie. LG, HTC, Samsung, Nokia, etc. each having a Nexus? unless i misunderstood that? |
