red_sir 03-23-2013 01:33 PM

Damn, how'd you hurt your ribs? Can you finish the workouts with a couple extra days of rest or will you be out for a while?

i asked my gf to crack my back but somehow my ribs carcked instead. i was still able to get in 3 workouts after but yesterday when i bent down to grab an empty bar i felt something pop and give out. it feels as if theres a bubble around the posterior floating ribs.

im hoping its nothing serious, i really want to finish the program, everything was going good as plan till this.

I'm on the strong lift program, so I'm doing Squats 3x a week, think I will make the switch to the Layton Norton Program this week

Because I'm now squatting 315 lbs, I'm not able to go as low and push out as many reps as I can with 285 lbs. The same was said when I was pushing 285lbs

thoughts on sacrificing depth when pushing heavier weights?

Sid Vicious 03-23-2013 02:43 PM

don't do it?

Depends. If you're not breaking parallel at minimum then might as well drop the weight and go lower. Sacrificing proper form for higher weight is just making it an ego lift

my 315 is a bit above parallel
my 285 use to be a bit above parallel too

but since going heavier I'm now able to past parallel with 285lbs, so in a way isn't it good?

GFitTrain 03-23-2013 03:07 PM

Aim to hit parallel engage the glutes more; otherwise, you'll become more quad dominant with non-parallel squats leading to imbalances between the quad and hamstrings.

Sid Vicious 03-23-2013 03:08 PM

above parallel doesn't count as a rep theyre just knee bends

its below parallel or bust

red_sir 03-23-2013 03:42 PM

Nothing magical happens when you get to 315. Not hitting parallel is a bad idea at 285 and it's still a bad idea at 315. Train the same way you've always trained.

Shit that sucks man. Don't worry too much though, you've basically done 99% of the program, i'm sure your squat has greatly improved. Just deload and recover and get ready for the next program, whatever that may be!

you'll still destroy us all working at your 50% capacity

red_sir 03-23-2013 06:02 PM

Was gonna wait till next week to do this but got impatient.

225x19 weighing in at 183 in the morning.
When I got to 18 I thought I could've hit 20. But the lactic acid floodgates opened on the 19th rep and that was the end.

Wetordry 03-23-2013 06:13 PM

Wow I'm blown away red_sir.
No video but 225x3 @ 159 lbs

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Fcukedd, aim higher than me. You young guys aren't even close to your prime years yet but are already damn strong. I can't even imagine how strong you guys will get when you're my age.

RIP Joe Weider :(

instantneedles 03-23-2013 07:53 PM

redsir, beast as per usual!

The_Situation 03-23-2013 07:53 PM

26 reps at 185lbs, but you manage to get 19 reps at 225lbs? What sort of wizardry is this?
