can you guys recommend a new program for me? Need something a bit more structured. Want to train mostly for hypertrophy but after seeing pics of red_sir and fcukedd, im definitely considering a more strength based program...

I'm not trying to start the flame war again but just because one has more knowledge does not mean everything they know is valid. So many of my profs have different beliefs about different training methods and some even come contradict. My physiology prof has said steady state cardio prevails over HIIT style training for far burning and another one of my profs who is a well known strength and conditioning coach said the exact opposite. My point is,don't always believe what you read in books. Give advice based on your own experiences.

5/3/1 with the Boring But Big template. Great balance of strength and hypertrophy work.

Hard to say, fcukedd and I have been training for around the same amnt of time and hav very similar bodys but he's been training strength based while I train for hypertrophy/high reps and progressive overload at a slower pace (his lifts are much higher than mine) so I think it doesn't really matter whether you do strength based or hypertrophy based as long as you have a good diet to gain muscle/weight, or you could get the best of both worlds and try PHAT (power/hypertrophy) routine , I haven't tried it myself but heard a lot of good things about it

best type of cardio for fat burning? i keep hearing HIIT ..and then i keep hearing that one should do longer runs but not so much intensity

alwayslive 03-27-2013 07:23 PM

for anyone who wants a cheap pre/intra workout, buy those gatorade powders that you mix in water, it ends up being around 10-15$ for a month and it works pretty well

Alright so I don't usually post vids but here it is...225x15 (wish I could've pushed out more) I'm @ 175lbs. Sorry for the crappy view, no one was able to hold the phone for me.

Next week going for 20 reps.

The only supplements I ever took were protein (BCAAs included), creatine and fish oils. I stopped using all the supplements about a month ago, even creatine. I hated that once you get off creatine, you lose up to 10% of your strength, so now I just train without it. Even fish oils, I just try to eat more sushi, lol.

To be honest (and it is just my opinion), nothing works better than eating plenty, sleeping plenty (8 hrs +) and foam rolling/stretching once you feel sore...

nice lifts bud! I recognize you from when I used to lift at golds. Never knew you were an RS'er lol.

Is mike still around?

BlackV62K2 03-27-2013 08:36 PM

Took Assault and was ready for a sweet leg workout. Drove to the gym and it was closed for some water pipe issue. :rukidding:. Waste of preworkout drink.

The only reason I use protein is because I'm not able to cook enough solids with high enough protein for certain meals of the day.

Other than that, I personally don't see the need for supplements at all. They are great and will provide you with the full spectrum of nutrients you need if you are looking for solid food substitution, but they are still to this day - overrated
