And all you people on the other page debatinf about doing back and bis etc u don't even need bicep isolation when ur beginning all the growth gonna come from compounds. Once u start plateauing then add in isolation. - just from my experience.

For those of you who eat oatmeal, how do you guys usually make it?
I tried the quaker oats instant ones and was WAYYY too sweet so bought this one from Costco called Northern Gold:Steel Cut Oats.

I use the same type of Oatmeal (the steel cut ones). What I do is I just cook a huge pot on sunday night, and have it for breakfast for at least the next five days. If you wanna change things up, try throwing in some sliced bananas or strawberries. Mornings are usually hectic for me (as they are for a lot of people), so its nice to have it ready.

SkinnyPupp 03-16-2011 08:11 PM

I used to just take some oatmeal (non quick or instant) and nuke it with some water. But now I just buy oat flour (same stuff, just ground to a powder) and mix it into a protein shake with some egg. Since I don't like oatmeal, this is the best way to get some non crappy carbs in me :)

Quick oats. Microwaved with some hot water for 30 to 60 secs

Steel Cut oats take much longer to cook.

Yup steel cut oats were 3 minutes for me. I preferred that though, because it gives the blueberries a chance to melt :)

i know that pack is full of sugar but god damn do i ever love the apple cinnamon

Fuck ... today was one of those workouts where you just don't wanna leave the gym cuz it feels so fucking good. I'm dead tired but so full of energy at the same time.

My gym doesn't have a decline bench so I ghetto rigged my own w/ a situp bench and a step up platform ... wow ... chest is on fiya .. I can finally see what I've been missing out on. This threads helped me out so much. I used to have such shitty shoulder/back days .. now they're probably my favorites. Ontop of that I've added a solid 40-50 pounds to every exercise since the new year. Life is good :)

I never used to sweat during my workouts .. I leave with my shirt completely soaked everytime now (yeah i'm the guy you don't wanna use a machine after lol)

rolled oats with homo milk. sliced up bananas and craisins. microwaved for 1 minute. it's delicious, fast and i know a lot of people don't like the porridge oatmeal. usually i'll throw in some natural peanut butter or some coconut oil/coconut milk.

costco also sells the quaker brand rolled oats. buy that or the steel cut. don't buy the instant stuff.too much sugar

Stevenash Fitness world or actual steve nash?

If you want fitness world, you can do a few things

1) Pay $500 upfront, then $20 a month
2) Sign a 2 year contract, pay $40 a month for 2 years, then $20 a month after that

... I'm on #2. I'm sure theres other possibilities. Do not get suckered in. If they tell you they'll "waive" the initiation fee of $60 if you sign up right now, it's a trap. They just want you're $$ so don't fall for it. If they can waive it on the spot like that, they can waive it whenever they feel.

I like fitness world, I go to cambie and 12th and it's a very relaxed environment, not a lot of meatheads, and everyone's pretty friendly. Richmond location has a lot more "hardcore" people I guess you can say, so I'm unsure of it's environment (I only go to richmond really early/really late). No matter what though, I found fitness world is much nicer/more noob friendly than SC, it's a great gym to start out in.

chin3se604 03-17-2011 12:56 AM

i was thinking about joining one of the two gyms for like a month or two until i find a job

do they offer just monthly fees without the big initiation fee?

thanks

BlackV62K2 03-17-2011 01:04 AM

Until then I would just go to a Rec center gym. I believe all those are contract free. Gyms like gold's and fitness world are usually contract term based. I know gold's has a drop in price and I think a monthly pass too without contract but it's at some ridiculous price and not worth it. I dont remember exactly how much though.

Well I know fitness world does do monthly (its a pain in the ass to setup, but they do it).

I made a friend of mine sign up with me when I first started working out, back then they had a deal when you sign up you get 1 month free. She paid for one month and got a second for free, which worked out nicely.

If you want to sign up, go to any fitness world and see what they offer you (it depends on the person in charge of accounts). Each fitness world has a different person in charge of new accounts, so where you might get an asshole at one place (ie. the girl Mona @ fitness world on cambie and 12th is a total bitch and lies a LOT) another fitness world might have a slightly nicer new account person.

Also you can get 1 week free if you tell them you want a pass but want to try it for 1 week first.

The above poster is also right, the community center gyms (run by the vancouver parks board) do not do contracts. They sell passes on a monthly/3month/6month etc. basis. And if you buy a pass, I believe you can go to any vancouver park gym (they're all pretty meh though, although trout lake is supposed to be sick .. but it won't be completed 'till fall).
